Rubinstein said that Pollini first became known for his Chopin concerto 1. Obviously, we can hear more romantic interprétations , but here it the freshness and enthousiasm that dominates in this young man of 18 who is the age of Chopin when he composed this masterpeace. I, i like it a lot and that’s how the public received it!

He had planned to visit South Korea 2 times, but due to his health issues both concerts were cancelled. So I’ve never been to one of my favorite pianist’s concert. Quel dommage. Personally I love his Schumann very much. His Fantasy is my favorite, the only one.

This isn't my favourite performance, but not every performance of this work needs to be ultra (or excessively) refined and sensitive like Sokolov or Kate Liu. A certain harder drive like here has its own appeal. In any case my favourite performance of PC 2 is Pollini's live recording (the one I uploaded with Mehta).
@Pogouldangeliwitz8 ай бұрын
@@ADGO I mean, Gilels or Lipatti had a harder drive too. But they lacked Pollinis glass & steel prosaism and his blue-faced hypoxia. Luckily, may I say.... 😉

@@ADGO Wait, your favorite #2 amongst all #2 ever recorded is that Pollini & Mehta?! Or is it just your favorite Pollini performance of a Chopin concerto?
@ADGO8 ай бұрын
Yeah Pollini/Mehta 2 is my favourite rec of Chopin's PC 2. I love its drive and intensity - the poetry is in how exciting it is. I definitely don't need a soft performance of that work (whereas I love Sokolov's early studio recording of PC 1).

@@ADGO I'm gonna have to give it another listening. Somehow, I doubt it'll surpass Rubinstein, Pogorelich or Zimermans second studio recording...
