Yep there's something called a recessive gene, for example if two brown haired people both have 1 parent with red hair and they have multiple kids, then there's a high chance that one of their kids will have red hair. So since they both have white parents but their skin is dark, the one child got the recessive gene and that's why she's lighter than the parents. But I don't blame him for making sure.
