I got one of those railed fore grip and HATED it! It was so fat and uncomfortable I ended up taking off the 2 side rails. Same with the pistol grip and adjustable stock. LOL it’s now back to the stock configuration with a tube mounted light. I love the Magpul stock and fore grip on my 590A1, but I’m not gonna spend the $140 bucks for one for my Maverick 88. That’s more than I paid for the gun itself! LOL

Potential total fail as personal/home defense weapon: Mossberg 88/500 receivers have a peculiar lifter pin attachment to receiver in that the two pins sit in holes bored thru the receiver side walls in such a way that if the weapon is dropped from waist level or above, and lands flat on the side of the receiver, the litter pins will be jarred out of position rendering the pump action totally inoperable. Jammed up tight. In order to reset the lifter, you will have to remove that side saddle because it is secured through the trigger pin and the ejector screw hole. Then you will have to remove the pistol grip because it covers the rear of the trigger group such that you cannot remove the trigger group while the pistol grip is attached. All this takes special tools not required when the M88 is stock out of the box. In other words, to field strip this weapon you have to carry an extra tool kit to break the gun down if the lifter jars loose in a drop.

Watching you add parts that take away from the proven reliability of the gun was entertaining but it sure LOOKS cool. You have a fore grip that is too bulky to grasp and too uncomfortable to use so you can use rails you don't need, to mount a light you won't be able to see with because it's moving when your using the gun. Mount a light on the tube and use your thumb, use the saved money for ammo. Now you got a pistol grip/stock combo that I really like; on a 870 or 37. You can't get to the slide lock WITHOUT releasing your grip and canting the gun sideways to use it. Remington and Ithaca's slide release is on the trigger guard where you can get to it WITHOUT letting go of your trigger hand. If you want to make it work right adda extended slide release so you can use your thumb and don't have to change your grip. Kind of a bitch to get to the bolt that holds it all on the receiver but get used to it every 100 rounds or so since you didn't use thread locker. Every 200 if you did because the Chinese bolt never stays tight. Average number of shots fired in a defensive shooting by a civilian: 2. Your sidesaddle just adds weight and bulk to the gun. Throw a couple of shells in your pocket. You won't need them anyway and if you do, you picked the wrong fight. IF you ever have to use that thing to defend yourself, hold on tight. I was the police for 20 years and do you know what I know when I show up? Somebody got shot and you shot them. Then I see the gun. I'm not saying it's illegal or anything but you WILL be judged by the cops, probably as a Rambo or crazy prepper. NEVER add anything to the gun that takes away from it's reliability. All the shit you added either gets in the way or will break when you need it most. What didn't you add that you really can use and need? A fiber optic or night sight. The first, last and ONLY thing you can add that helps. Good luck with your $500, $200 gun.
@shadetrehomesim
@shadetrehomesim 3 жыл бұрын
That foregrip is bulky, but if you put a vertical grip on that picatinny it won’t matter. I have this same shot gun and did put a vertical foregrip on it as well as that stock/grip. The Tacstar side saddle doesn’t just add bulk/weight. It adds a top picatinny that you can use for a dot as well as holding extra shells. “Throwing extra shells in your pocket” isn’t an option if this is your home defense/bump in the night gun. When you hear the sounds of breaking and entering will you have time to grab those extra shells at midnight or two AM? Having that there you know you’ve got a few extra shells. “You picked the wrong fight” doesn’t apply when it’s someone breaking into your home. That’s when the fight was chosen FOR you. I’ll take every advantage I can get, flashlight, red dot...if someone decides to break in I’d rather have too many shells than not enough.
@MrZipperhead16
@MrZipperhead16 3 жыл бұрын
@@shadetrehomesim To each their own. It's still too much shit to depend on not to mess up at the wrong time. Interesting you bring up the pic rail. Yes you can put a dot on it and IF your trained on using it in the dark you may fair ok. If not your focusing on that dot and you miss everything else going on around you. If the battery isn't dead that is. Vertical grip? Good idea except it pulls you off target with every shot more than recoil does. Your sacred, your pissed that someone broke into YOUR house and your pulse is 130. That grip is one more thing to hamper you. Over years we tried a dozen different things on the shotguns and both private and public safety I worked for settled on a front night sight and a pressure pad controlled light and half the time that damn thing didn't work. K.I.S.S.
@shadetrehomesim
@shadetrehomesim 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrZipperhead16 it's really a matter of training. If anyone is going to commit to a weapon for defense they need to know how to use it. I spent 20 years active duty, pretty familiar with waking up randomly with my pulse pounding, but not alot of people are. As for the forward grip pulling you off target, again I'd say it's about training. With the dot (motion activated with a battery rated at 20k hours) I was able to shoot skeet being sent out in random directions at 15 yards with no issues. The red dot is all about training though, keeping both eyes open. As for 'all' of the stuff, the saddle does next to nothing at all. As long as its loctited it will make zero impact other than carrying extra shells. It won't impact the moving parts. The grip and stock allow for you to pull it a little tighter in, which I like personally. I actually took the two side rails off of the forward grip, only kept the bottom of me for the grip. I do have a 500 lumen light mounted forward as well that's already been through at least 1000 rounds worth of abuse. No failures, no issues...but again I think it all comes down to training and familiarization.
@MrZipperhead16
@MrZipperhead16 3 жыл бұрын
@@shadetrehomesim Yes it's ALL about training that We have but the average homeowner doesn't. A Shotgun is basically like a ball bat. Simple and easy to swing. Add a bunch of stuff to it and it's still a bat but one that's harder to swing. When I started working I had everything you could think of on my duty belt. When I quit I had a mag holder, cuffs, light and a holster and got as much or more done.Simple is better all day long.

Don't need a rail on top of a receiver with a shotgun. Most red dots are too high then, you have to add a cheek riser . Then you're spending more money and adding more weight to something you want to keep fairly light. Unless, you have poor vision a red dot is a waste of money. Some sort of bead or fiberoptic sight is more than sufficient to handle the job a shotgun is designed for. So far, all I have seen is a channel on how to waste your money on shit you don't need. I guess its just a matter of opinion.
