Maverick Atom MUST DO upgrades!... Will the stock motor handle 3s?😯

A few small cheap mods or changes to the Maverick Atom that will transform it into a faster, stronger and much more capable BEAST of a Skatepark basher!
And all while keeping it brushed😳

Shim sets come in many different sizes, always make sure to match the shim outer diameter to the bearing outer diameter.
Example -
10x12mm shim is for a 12mm outer diameter bearing with a maximum shaft/input shaft diameter/thickness of 10mm.

All of my DIY carbon, aluminium or polycarbonate parts are cut with a jigsaw and drilled with a hand drill.
Most of my materials like Carbon Fibre, Aluminium, polycarbonate and hardware like screws, bolts and nuts are purchased from Ebay Australia but most of what I use is easily found just by Google searching the material or hardware you require.

How are your MJX Hyper Go 1/16 cars doing? After my son did a thorough durability test on his new MJX 16208 since his birthday on the 25th of December the only items in the drivetrain still working properly are the spur and pinion gears, the rest of it seems to be toast. However I am not complaining, getting a set of brand new tyres almost completely bald in just 17 days really takes some doing!!! So his MJX 16208 will also need a new set of wheels and tyres to get it up to standard again, LOL!!! I think we all would really like to see more videos of you and your Dad enjoying the hobby together.

My dad and I took the new and old MJXs down to the beach finally to test the paddle tyres, OMG it was fun but ZERO steering🤣 Got a vid of that coming at some stage. My MJX is fine, they are tough but as I said in probably all the video of the new MJX, it's just the instability that I'm not fan of and myself being a big believer of stability over strength vs cost it's not a car I can recommend as a good for price car, if that makes sense🤔😅 I am a fan of the wheels though🤷🤭

Good video. Nice bash session. Those upgrades definitely seemed to help. I'm not sure which one it was, but don't you know that you can't do half flips? It doesn't work. 😂

Yes I think a half flip would just be classed as crashing🤔🤣 Yeah the shims and bearings should hold all the gears and drivetrain together for a lot longer technically, almost need a stock one aswell to see how they differ now👌 Thanks Tim🙂

A lot of these smaller 1/16 or 1/18 trucks seem to be good fun on 3s as long as the brushed motor can take it 😅

Yeah man absolutely! The trick is a high turn brushed motor, most brushed motor voltage limits are true specs unlike brushless motors, as in even if you gear down a low turn 7.4v brushed motor and run it on 3s it will still more than likely burn out due to overhearing as it was literally 7.4v MAXIMUM. So I'm guessing this Maverick motor is like 20t to maybe even as high as 30t

Thank you for uploading this, the information you provided regarding the grease makes me want to ask you then if it is better to use a softer grease to keep the gears lubricated, or even something like petroleum jelly to lube the diffs?

Thanks mate🙂 Always trying to better the capabilities and longevity of these cars with simple fixes. So most greases are sticky compared to silicone oil so you probably find most if not all grease will stick rather than run like silicone oil is designed to do. But different weight oils are largely for making the car act different depending on how you like your car setup. Thin oil loose diffs, thicker oil stiffer diffs, that's why front centre and rear diffs alot of the time have different weight oil's for its intended job, racing bashing or general driving. Saying that though, thin enough grease should move around the gears just from enough G forces(jumps and wheelies) therefore lubricating the gears as the car moves👌

Sorry about the late reply mate, slept so long😅 Yeah it was a super fun day and dad is definitely getting some sweet jumps hey🤘 I never completely flatten lipos but maximum a hour normally or about 30mins on average with my current charger.

I have a charger that will do a 6000mah 3s battery in an hour, so I'm good- thanks!- that was what I was wondering. I will always answer comments and questions as soon as I can essentially people like yourself who constantly support my channel😁 And technically you can charge some lipos at 2c or 3c so you would set your charger to 12a (2c) rather than 6a (1c) and it should then only take maximum of 30mins. I charge my 9500mah 4s ebike lipos at 13a so not quite 2c but they only take about 30mins max, I have 10 to charge though so can't afford to wait an hour per lipo😆

Nice work. Where did you get the bearing kit? Are the bearings for the center driveshaft and diffs 8x12x3 or 8x12x3.5?

I normally get Plaig bearing kits but these were mostly just spares from my bearing drawer. I'm not sure on the sizes, I should have checked for you guys, sorry mate!

Stock motor but I added the 3s capable esc. You can't use the stock controller or 2in1 board with hobby grade escs so I also had to use a hobby grade controller and receiver.

According to the parts list or user manual they are 8x12x3mm but for some reason no one can find any we can only find 8x12x3.5mm🫤

Well I thought so as they looked to be the same size as the bushings(out of my random bearing box) but I can not find one listing online for 8x12x3. They must have come with a specific car bearing kit but I've no idea which bearing kit😬

@@rccrazy thank you for your answers and channel. I bought 2 of these atoms cars. For my son and my self. Love the cars however after short period of time it came with the same noise like in your video. I changed the diff in the rear. The noise is still there so I think the solution is what you have done to your car. So thank you I will keep a close eye on your channel in the future 😀
