@@PeterPiccolo Nice! Essentially the same thing i've got going on. Yea, try to get the batteries to wear evenly and label or mark them somehow, to ensure they all get use more or less equally. It's enough to just check the number of charges in the DJI Go 4 App and favoring the ones that get less use.

I use the HUB or the sunnylife 5 in 1 Mavic 2 charger which had overload protection over current over heat and allows 4 batteries and 2 usb devices to be charged concurrently

Nice. One of the things that scares me a bit about those aftermarket chargers is I read a blog where an electronics engineer took it apart and was shocked at how low end the parts used were. He resoldered a bunch of stuff with better components. Just one of those things..

This was super helpful. I live in Canada, so in February when we had unusually warm weather, I took my new Mavic 2 out for a spin. That was just about a month ago. I have four batteries, and thought it best to give them a full charge so that they'd be ready for my next flight. Then it got cold as shit for the next month. Today it was really nice so I drove out to the farm and got all set up for a day of flying. I was super annoyed to find out the batteries were down to 56%. All of them. I thought it was odd that they'd all be down to the exact same level so I googled and found this video. Thank you VERY much. I thought my batteries were crap or something. Happy to know it's an integrated function to discharge after 10 days. Thank you also for the excellent charging, discharging information. SUPER appreciated!

Just sent in a Mavic 2 Battery that had not status leds when depressed. Putting it on the Dji Smart Charger it appeared to try for about 2 minutes and then the led on the charger turned red. Luckily, the battery is under warranty. Good info here on the video. Thanks !!

hey Atort, I fly them or manually discharge them to anywhere from 20-30%, then either charge to storage voltage or fully charge if im using them again within a day or so.

I would stop at 65 or so since it’ll auto discharge the last few percent on its own. But going to 60 should be perfectly fine as well. I have the Mavic 2 Pro & Zoom and all the other DJI drones including the V2 and the EVO yeah I'm drone drunk LOL. Battery care is very important. The 6 batteries I have for my M2's have about 125 flights plus on them each and still giving me over 20 minutes of flight time easy. Rotation, not charging a hot battery(it won't let you) and using your batteries like exercising a muscle is good for them like you said. I fly over 8+ times a day mixing up my drones. Although the DJI and along with other decent drone apps will warn you on things but it's also good to check the health of everything every so often, a lot of time you can see things coming. I give my batteries a number code. Currently I have 4 batteries. With dots, as seen on dice, I know which battery is which. This way I quickly know what to use next. It also helps to use all of them about the same amount of times. I marked the batteries on the front and backside. This way I can easily see it when they are in my camera bag. When a battery is used, I put them back in the bag with the terminals facing me. When they are charged the terminals are facing the other way.

But that will ruin the _refresh plan_ I got. I see a lot of advantages on the Pro model. And getting a whole new Pro model is kind of expensive... so, still in doubt.

Very nice Edwin, the Mavic 2 Zoom is a nice drone! That zoom feature can sure come in handy. Getting another gimbal or swapping for a Mavic 2 Pro are both expensive and in the case of changing the gimbal yourself, risky procedures :D. What makes you want to upgrade to the Mavic 2 Pro?

@@Quadcopterguide The reason to upgrade to a *pro* model is mainly the 10bit color depth and the larger sensor size. I have been working with high-end broadcast _(XDCAM, LDK, etc)_ and cine cameras _(RED)_ for about 25 years now. I know that larger sensors handle low light situations better, among other advantages. I will keep the zoom gimbal assembly though. Because there are many situations where I would like to get a bit closer to my subject without loosing resolution. So, I might swap that one back in those rare situations.

Edwin van den Akker Edwin van den Akker You are of course spot on with the larger 1” sensor on the mavic 2 Pro. If they earn you money now or in future it makes sense to own both. Some people complain about the readout from the sensor not being as good as it could be, of course thermal management always play a role. Either way it is vast improvement over the original mavic Pro. Experience with RED and co :) sounds cool but also a bit more stressful. I don’t think I’m ready for a raw video workflow yet :).

DJI has done a great job of getting this technology into the hands of many people. The DJI batteries on the inside are LiPo cells just like any other hobby LiPo battery out there. Sure there is a chip in there that theoretically will reduce risk further, but things can still happen. Ironically I just got a Yx (?) 4 battery charging station that with charge, discharge and storage modes that will also balance the LiPo cells at the end of the storage/charge cycles before turning off the batteries. Hey Jason. Congrats on the Mavic 2 and wanting to take the part 107 exam. I was looking into those charger/dischargers, but after reading how cheap the internals are and how hot the charger and leads become while using I decided I didn't want to risk it. Be sure to only charge and discharge on a concrete slab like a patio or a garage if need be, and don't let it do that unattended. Hi there can you jumpstart a battery. Bought mine from DJI for my 2 zoom, used twice It sat for few months without a charge due to heartache and stroke I had. Went to charge it and no go. No litghts nothing will not even power up drone. No lights to touch dead. Now my question is can you jump start it with a charged battery. When I get a dead dewalt battery that won’t charge I grab one hook up +to+and neg to neg. Sparks for second and I can put it on the charger and it will begin charging. It’s on you tube. But never saw anything for the DJI batteries. Any thoughts? Thanks

hey Mitchell, thanks for dropping by. Take a peek at the DJI manual for the battery (should be able to find that easily online). The batteries go into a sleep mode after some time. It may not be "dead". The chargers essentially just provide a constant voltage and the smart circuitry handles the rest. Maybe the power brick is defective? If it charges other batteries fine thats not it... good luck

Quadcopterguide thank you, I will work my way through those videos in the coming days. One thing I have had which I am returning in due course is the freewell variable neutral density filter. I’ve found over a short space of time it creates too uneven a picture. As I like taking panoramic photos it really destroys the stitching ability later on as the lightroom raw editor can’t remove the resulting uneven vignette effects caused by filter. Don’t know if you’ve tested this yourself?

After a flight, I wait the batt cool down, and then charge it. When the 3rd light begins to blink, I wait more 5 minutes, then stop the charging. The battery is then with 60% charge level. It would nice if the charger had a storage mode, like the many other airmodel charger have.

Hi Emilio! thanks for taking the time to comment. Definitely a good idea to let the battery fully cool before charging it back up. There's no huge rush to charge it back up to storage level, so it can be done the next day if needed. When the 3rd LED is lit, it means the battery is between 50-75% charge. So it sounds about right 5-15ish minutes after the first blink it should be around 60% charge. It would be cool if DJI offered a more advanced charger themselves. Which drone are you flying Emilio?

Rcgeeks sell a Mavic 2 charger with a storage mode switch for about $50, it has 4 channels (the white variant, not the blue). It takes the guess work out of short charging it. My setup is the 5A rcgeeks charger which doesn't have storage mode but it's attached to a wifi switch/timer so I find a 15min charge gets it within storage levels.

Hey Emilio, I just tested this the other night, and you are spot on. 2 Solid and one flashing starts 60%. I caught it at 62%. I assumed 3 solid was good but then i ended up with over 75% which of course is too high. Thanks again for the tip!

Hi Herman, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. It is much appreciated! Thats a good question, i think it's a matter of following these guidelines and how much the batteries are used. I got mine at launch and my batteries knock on wood are not swelling. This could be attributed to my storage regiment or perhaps you fly more often than I do. Just be super careful since the swelling can pop out the battery in flight and you risk loosing your whole quad in the process.

Nice man! Your gonna love the mavic 2 Pro! The ND filters were just ND without PL (polarizer) you mean? That’s ok. I haven’t flown yet with the PL on anything other than off. I suppose if I fly near an ocean or lake and it’s super reflective I may have to start messing with it. It just seems silly to me on a drone where you change your angle to the sun all the time. What do you mainly shoot with your Air currently?

Oh nice! I like me some wakeboarding. You could always try a filter with PL. If your going to do it, it does make sense to use them while on the water. You just have to adjust the filter on the ground for the primary direction of your filming. Once the angle changes 90° etc I don’t think the PL will be as effective. Hi Mavoc thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. It is much appreciated! There isn't a preset limit on the DJI Intelligent Batteries as far as I know. As long as they are taken care of and stored well, they should last a long time. I would pay attention to the battery during flights and if you see one cell behaving differently than others, or you can start to tell the drone doesn't fly the same anymore, to see if it could be the battery. Does your Mavic 2 still behave and fly the way it did when you first got it?

@@Quadcopterguide Thanks for your reply. i had a mavic pro 1 for 3 years. without paying particular attention to the batteries, even after 3 years, they worked their way well. but i remember asking a dji drones expert, and he was clear. Batteries want immediate changes after 100 cycles, or after 100 flights at most. Just like yesterday I bought the mavic 2 pro with smart controller and I hope the batteries will hold just like my old drone!

For the Remote Control of the Mavic 2 (normal Remote not Smart Controller), I recommend keeping it also around that 60% charge level if you are going to store it, or not use it for more than a month or two. You can help it along to discharge faster, if it's over the 60% by plugging in something to the full-size USB port at the bottom of the remote and turning it on. I just tried a large USB-powerbank, and it wanted to charge the remote i believe so that wasn't that helpful, but plugging in another USB device caused the power to flow from the RC to the device and it helped it drain a bit quicker. The only problem is that since the drone isn't connected, the remote will start beeping after a few minutes of it being on, so you are stuck moving the stick every once in a while to avoid it to beep or turn off... Ive read reviews that the product gets VERY hot when charging in parallel and one guy even openend it up and claimed the components are pretty cheapo, so I don't think i would recommend actually charging multiple all the time with this. It does however have a storage option. I would honestly just get this and only use it to do one at a time to storage. The stock DJI charger works fine for me and i don't have to worry about some cheapo device. Hope that helps!

Hey EnjOy! thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Much appreciated! That is of course a great question. So if people read this in the future and maybe DJI has let us adjust the days by then... but at the time of writing this isn’t the case. So let’s assume the setting is 10days to discharge. Theoretically the batteries still have 100% charge. What I would do after more than a day after charging, so 2-3ish to 10 days after I would toss the battery back on the charger to ensure there wasn’t any fluke discharge for whatever reason. Odds are the battery won’t even begin charging since it’ll report a full charge. Just wait a good 20-30 seconds after plugging the battery into the charger and if it doesn’t light up it’s as full as it’ll get. Hope that makes sense and is understandable. Let me know if not and if you have other questions! Otherwise I’ll see you in the next video!

To be safe I wouldn't leave any battery charging overnight while you are sleeping, especially batteries with high energy densities such as lithium-polymer batteries (such as in the Mavic 2). Sure the batteries are "intelligent" but there are always chances for failure. Fire's can spread so fast, It's better not to risk it. Quadcopterguide Sorry long day. Our std. size 30’ x 25’. They they lay out rows of 100’ to 160’ strips. Most of the rows are angled toward the ☀️ Avg. 20 to 50 rows. I do front & back. Fronts are easy. The back had to be setup. Manual use the C1 setting my runs flying sideways. It stops at each digital readout panel. First run takes pictures. 2nd run videos wiring. Hi there a good morning. I have a question regarding the voltage fully charged 4.2 to 4.24 And typically storage voltage should always be around 3.8 to 3.8 for that is for all of the lithium polymer batteries that I use on my helicopters and my RC airplanes. I’m assuming the quality of the cells are the same in the drone batteries is there some truth to keeping the voltage at 3.82 on the drone batteries as well because that is what I’m used to I’m real picky with keeping my batteries in tiptop shape and keeping them in proper storage mode as well as cycling them once a month if I don’t fly or use them. What are your thoughts on the storage voltage of 3.8 for these particular batteries considering that they are lithium polymer just like the ones IUse for my aircraft as well

Hey RC car guy. Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch, it is much appreciated! Great question. DJI batteries for the mavic 2 Pro are actually LiHV (high voltage) cells. There is debate online whether the best storage voltage is 3.7-3.8v per cell as regular lipos or 3.9v per cell as some chargers have set internally. I don’t think you can go wrong with either on the mavic 2 platform specifically. Hope that helps.

I use third party slow charger it works fine before i use dji charger but it got batt bloated. I dont charge it when batt are hot i let aircon blow them a little cooler. Inspect always b4 and after flight. F found inconsistent in readings or a minor change in body form i put a mark on them.

40 degrees C is the threshold of battery degradation... keeping the battery at 50% charged keeps the solid electrolyte layer inactive so no ions drifts when charge is halfway... puffed up batteries usually happens when constant charging and heat occurs in the cell...

I did have some LiPo packs for some RC 3D planes that swelled up after longer no-use. I don't think they swelled up due to constant charging and high heat. But maybe the ambient temperature got too warm at times. I think in my case it was more because of non-use. Which drones are you flying? Still the Inspire 1?

Hi Bill, great question. The target percentage for the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom as well as Enterprise is 60% battery charge level for storage. When you get 3 solid LEDs you are between 50-75%. So normally I wait a few minutes after the 3rd LED goes solid. Hope that helps!

Hi Pete, thanks for writing. Hm, i wonder why that sometimes happens. It has happened to me as well in the past, not sure when the last time was. Try this, and let me know: With everything off plug in your smartphone into the Mavic 2 remote control, now once with the smartphone in sleep mode and once awake at the home screen, try turning on the remote. I always turn on the remote before the drone, so maybe that will help. Then the drone. If that doesn't work try with the DJI Go 4 App open while doing the steps. What kind of phone do you use?

Hi peter. Thanks for writing back. We will get to the bottom of this. Somehow. Yes you can use the normal USB-A port on the bottom of the remote. When you do this it’s important to completely unplug the side micro usb cable. Otherwise the bottom port won’t work correctly. That’s always a good test. See if that way works more consistently. It should work with a phone like that as well of course. In terms of the simulator and the spectrum RC I’m not sure. Don’t those have a mono style 3.5mm or a micro USB port for trainer linking etc? I would expect that to work but check the simulator and spectrum sites or forums for the best info on that.

Bought my Mavic 2 Pro in 2020, soon after I found out the batteries were already a year old when I bought this and not long after that I was in touch with DJI support to report that my batteries were swelling!! After many calls and emails they replaced my 3 batteries under warranty and as an apology for the horrible service they sent me a code to order a new battery on them.

This is solid advice....Lipo batteries are getting better with self protection but they need respect owing to chemical composition.....I always consider them an angry battery that will go off at you if you annoy it lol. Forgive me if I missed it but did you mention to not leave them unattended when charging?. To be honest....they must have gone with Lipo for explosive power for high speed flying.....pity they do not offer a none Lipo for people who do not want the speed. Batteries of that type would be cheaper and would only be a few minutes less flight time. One thing they should do is commission the advice from this video and turn it into a battery safety information card to be included and also include a charge pouch. This video will help so many....well done on providing content for safety

Hey ARD! Wow, thanks for the kind words. You brought a smile to my face! Haha, i like that "consider them an angry battery". I should stick angry face stickers on them, that's a great way to think about them. I know i mentioned to not let the batteries charge unattended, maybe i falsely cut that clip out, as a mistake when i was trying to trim the videos length. Whoops, I'll make a note in the description. Of course an excellent point. It would be interesting if they could get 80% of the performance with something like NIMH. LiPos are such a standard now, I'm glad DJI at least takes the steps to build-in the many safeguards into the Mavic 2 Battery and other DJI Intelligent batteries. Of course, these safeguards are at the end of the day implemented by a human, so errors can always occur, plus a cell can always swell up and burst. Caution is always important, no matter how many safeguards are in place. A very interesting idea to include a little safety card. I suppose they expect everyone to read the manual.. haha, that was a good one I know. I can't believe how much the batteries have improved over the last 5-10 years. There are FPV Racer packs that provide 135C discharge rates.. Insane. Thanks again ARD!

I agree that the battery will slowly discharge once it hits 10 days of everything works as it’s supposed to, but if on day 9 you push the button on the battery once to check the charge level, it resets the 10 day timer. I normally have the setting set to 1-2 days but we don’t have that option (yet?) on the Mavic 2’s. Of course it’s better to store a battery long term more charged than less (of the ideal 65%) as there is no way for a battery to charge itself back up to that storage level. Hope that makes sense!

@@Quadcopterguide i think the profit from dji is pretty big... i can buy batteries with the same features for about 30 usd each... they are most fpv drones both freestyle and racers... some of them are 5 inch and can have a go pro on it... tho you can buy very good quality cameras cheaper than go pro... not 4k but does the job well and can do 1080p 60 fps www.banggood.com/Caddx-Turtle-V2-1080p-60fps-FOV-155-Degree-Super-WDR-Mini-HD-FPV-Camera-OSD-Mic-for-RC-Drone-p-1360782.html?rmmds=myorder&ID=224&cur_warehouse=CN but i think the market is different... at least from what i have seen most dji users... they really like pnp product and dont care or know much about the electronic in their drones... but again i bought my mavic 2 pro for filming videos only... and it does the job very well... and i cant get a 1080p videolink without spending 500-600 usd for the videolink... but i dont mind as the latency on the analog is way better and makes me able to more acrobatic flights :)

Haha. 🤣 that white reflection in the right eye (so left while looking at video). No idea why it gives me that white line. I know I need to blink more, and try to be more like my normal self. It’s not easy! Practice makes perfect. What drone you flying man?

Wow. 😮 that is fantastic to hear man! You have no idea how good it is to hear that. Glad it helped you out. The mavic 2 batteries are great and advanced. They still require a healthy dose of respect as just because they are advanced doesn’t mean they have 0 risk of issues. One can minimize the risks even more by being careful. Anyhow. That mavic 2 Zoom is sweet. What do you mainly use it for? Do you have previous experience with RC?

@@Quadcopterguide yeah the power that those little thingies can output in such a short timeframe is amazing :D I make car videos for my friends since they really like my footage (or more the footage my mavic takes :P) but I am personally more interested in exploring places with it and getting another perspective of things. I once had a RC helicopter but it broke down fairly quickly unfortunately

Nice! I’ll have to check out some of your car videos. You have them on your channel? I will check your channel after this anyways. Maybe I’ll get lucky. That’s funny. I did some cool orbit shots with my phantom 3 Pro back when it was the bees knees and I just found that footage again the other day. So much noise and compression. My snobbishness with the mavic 2 calls the footage unusable lol. Was fun to shoot though. The fpv racer and filmer lipo are even more insane. Unreal. I agree about exploration and additional perspectives. So cool to see things from a new Birdseye view. The live view we get with the DJI go 4 app and ocusync 2.0 is great. Then you look at the footage off the microSd card and you are amazed at the details. Good stuff.

@@Quadcopterguide i just got the incredible mavic 2. My second battery was acting funny . when i put the battery on the DRONE the drone activated partially. So I took it out and used the one that came with the mavic. Tested the amazon second battery and it was only 80%. Odd Then I had a firmwear update notification, and the battery did work no issues. I looked at your video to see if I could find out more. I don't think you covered the update part of the battery? Its now charging and I hope it's not a problem.

Ah gotcha. I hope I didn’t miss mentioning that each battery should also be placed in drone. Been a while since I filmed that, would have to watch it again 😂. When you place a battery which hasn’t been updated you should get the inconsistent firmware message. Normally that update goes pretty quick though. Still annoying to have to waste precious battery to do an update in the field. Which Mavic 2 did you go for? The Pro or Zoom?
