Hey Kelly, when you did your test, did you go passed the mavic 2zoom optical zoom and used the digital zoom as well? I have the Mavic 2 zoom, and I usually stay with the optical zoom and turned off the crazy digital zoom because it dummies down to 1080. So I’m curious how the reach of just the optical zoom between the mav2zoom and mav3? And also compare the reach of the zoom on both when you utilize the digital zoom capabilities. Thanks

Since we were filming in 4k, the Mavic 2 Zoom was only using optical zoom. Thanks for the suggestion, Miguel. I might try that.

The big difference is the with the m2 zoom is the ability to zoom in and also adjust the gimbal up and down…the m3 does not have that ability in that whilst zooming in you need to stop and adjust upwards/downwards…a major flaw If using video. An example is videoing sailing boats or surfing you can zoom in with the m2 and adjust gimble on moving objects

Was the Mavic 2 Zoom set to 1080p 30fps? If not, then the full lossless zoom wasn't being utilized. It looked like it stopped way short of what I get from my Zoom.

We were actually shooting in 4K - didn't realize it could zoom farther in 1080p. But the thing is, I pretty much only shoot in 4K now. But good note. I'll check out what the M2Zoom can do in 1080p. Thanks!

Isn't the extended zoom range while filming in 1080p only digital when going beyond the 2x at 48mm? Of course the M3 was using digital zoom too, so that would be a nice comparison.

@@SunriseWaterMedia It's lossless zoom beyond the 2X on the Mavic 2 Zoom. It's not optical zoom (with a lens) nor is it lossy digital. When set to at 1080p 30fps it essentially shoots at 4K but crops the image as you zoom. So it's true 1080p throughout the zoom range. Of course you could just shoot in 4K and crop in post for the same result but that's not as fun and more work. 😁

Hi! For the M2Z, it is optical from 24-48. At 1080p, you can do a digital zoom to 96mm. To this date, I enjoy the M2Z! However, The M2 (as well as the M3) is quite heavy and it will be nice to have zoom in a smaller form factor.

Sold my M2Z 2 years ago because of the back then upcoming regulations here in the EU. However, I started to miss the flying more and more over time and then I decided to purchase the mini 3 pro. I see a lot of similarities in these 2 drones performance-wise, but gotta give credit to the Mini 3 pro for packing such an amazing set of features in that tiny portable format!

Thanks for the comparison. I have never owned a drone with a zoom before. I just used the video from my Mavic 2 Pro, and did a digital zoom of up to 4x. That still gave me 1080P quality video. BUT I wanted better quality over all, so I bought the Mavic 3 flymore and the RC Pro. The quality from this drone is amazing. The zoom is an extra bonus. I hope the January update will improve the auto focus at 28X zoom, as mine does not always focus correctly at high zoom. I recently did some photo testing with the Mavic 3. I took some photos, then in the editor, I zoomed in 400%, and the detail in those photos is amazing! I am LOVING my Mavic 3. It is a really good flying drone,

That was amazing! Maybe next time if you could fly one drone from your starting point and hover above the light pole that you zoomed in on, then take a measure of actual distance from start to target distance. That way you would have a great idea of how far 28 times zoom is from the original view spot to the target. Thanks for sharing and Happy Holidays to you both and your respective families! Ed W

Mavic 3 has a 7x zoom. I believe the Mavic 2 Zoom is 2x when in 4k.

Another great video, Kelly, very impressive zoom. I can think of several uses I would have in my film making, but not sure if I could justify the extra outlay for what the Mavic 3 has over my Air 2 if I am honest

The comparison of the two units does not tell a true picture. You should do a comparison in 1080p 30fps on both units in video mode to see the similarities and differences in range and quality.

I think the Mavic Air 3 will be exactly the same as the Air 2 but with an adjustable aperture and side sensors being priced at about $1799.00 for fly more combo IMHO ☺️

Nice video mavic 2 zoom you have to low the resolution I don’t remember how much exactly And you have more zoom, max resolution is around 48 on zoom and you can get around 96 on 1080 resolution.

Yup, I own both the Mavic 2 Zoom and the original Air 2 and my go to drone is the Zoom. It has everything I want and need as an amateur and it's WAY cheaper than the Mavic 3. Plus its paid for....

I think the Air 2s Zoom is only 4x digital and would be the same as the large sensor on the Mavic 3. On the Mavic 3 you then jump up to the 7x camera and can digitally zoom in to 28x.

no optical zoom on the 3 it's all digital. They call it "hybrid" but that's really just about switching cameras halfway the zoom. Both lenses have a fixed focal length, no zoom, and your video is therefore incorrect.

it does not. Because it zooms only digitally. With "optical zoom" in regard to the 3, DJI means switching cameras. There's no real optical zoom on the Mavic 3

@@mr02gixxer1000 the Mavic 3 does not blow away anything in regard to optical zoom, because the Mavic 3 does not have optical zoom. With the main camera, you zoom 2x 4x... But only digitally. Then, you jump to 7x and the telephoto lens gets engaged. But that is not "zooming". The Mavic 3 does not have optical zoom. It has two cameras and it can jump from one to another. Ask any DOP if he would consider that even close to "zoom". What do you think the answer will be?

That’s not a great comparison because the mavic 2 is 4k but the mavic 3 is fuzzy, if you put the mavic 2 in 1080 instead of 4k the zoom will be the same .
