Thanks for the rundown. Just got the Air as my 1st ever drone. Flown lots of helis & planes though. So far its lots of fun and the video capability is very cool. My biggest complaint is that the camera makes me look old, bald, and chubby! (Ok.... maybe I am... but I don't want to be reminded of it!! They need a filter that makes me look 28 and buff!)

Hello from Dublin(Irl), I have my Mavic air just over three week's now...it's been a real learning curve in comparrison to my other machine's. I have been flying Multi rotor machine's since late 2014 starting with a Hubsan H107c. The Mavic is my second Drone since mid Summer 2015...The first machine I purchased was a Parrot BeBop which i could not fully get to grip's with. The Mavic hsa been so much better to learn to use mainly because of the fact that this machine came with a set of manual's rather than having to use an on line platform. I am still having some issue's with mine but DJI help and support have been brilliant so far...this is my first DJI product as i used to find thier product's to be out of my cost range. i was very pleased with the fly more package...especialy that mine came with a free Tello Drone which i will not use as i am having far too much fun with my Mavic. Happy flying.

How's the video lag considering they used wifi vs occusync or lightbridge? Can it still be flown FPV style with no noticeable lag between what the drone is doing/where it is vs the display on the phone? To me this is 1000x more important than having a really really long range.

Not to seem predictable, but if you can swing the cost, the Mavic Air would be a great choice. The Spark is also good, but the Air improves on so many things, the Spark now seems a bit dated. And, if you can fly your Syma X5C well, a DJI drone will seem very easy!

@cnyphotovideo6 жыл бұрын
OK. I see that you also have the iPhone X. I pretty much agree with your points about the Mavic air. I was glad to learn even though I always intuitively thought that rigid propellers would give a slightly longer flight time. There is no need on this particular drone to have folding propellers. For me this drone is a winner… Not because it’s the best one. It’s because it is so small that even compared to the Mavic pro you can take it literally anywhere and still get very high quality video or stills. I love the fact that I can shoot in RAW.
@bxbank6 жыл бұрын
OK video. You missed that the SD cannot be mounted unless the drone is on, which sucks. I don't know if Pro or Spark do, but it's important.

Hey Kelly, great video! I had a Spark for a month then sold it, I found I got a ton of WiFi interference. The range was pretty disappointing. Too bad the Mavic Air uses WiFi.. So do you buy this, the Mavic Pro or Platinum (just announced being discontinued by DJI) or step up and get the new Mavic Pro 2?
@readysetdrone6 жыл бұрын
Great question. Depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend. Based on your screen name, I'm assuming real estate. Mavic Pro or Platinum would be great for that. But if you don't already have a drone, spend the extra cash and get the Mavic 2.
@stevebachmanrealestate1436 жыл бұрын
I am in Real Estate and use a friend for Hi Def photography for my listings. I was thinking about adding aerial drone photography to my "arsenal" as well as maybe a Matterport camera down the road. I am a true novice as I have never flown a drone but I am a quick study so that part I'm not worried about. So you think the "new and improved" Mavic 2 might be a better option? So that being said, Zoom or Pro? Too many good choices out there. I was sure the Air would have been a great way to get into the drone world! Thanks in advance for your help and guidance!

Great vid! W-fi up to 2.5 miles away? Not your typical home router :) The Phantom 3 S only managed half a mile; have you suffered any signal drop out? And does the support of 2.4 / 5/8 GHz mean you can use it with other FPV goggles? Ian in London .

This is the biggest question that no review has actually covered, and holding me and many other people off from ordering a mavic air
@TessLowe6 жыл бұрын
In Europe this is a massive problem, especially on the Spark where we are forced to use 5.8G WiFi at pitiful transmission power and range is limited to a couple hundred metres. No Mavic Air for me.
@IaninLondon6 жыл бұрын
Are you forced to use 5.8Ghz? I've read threads where people select their band on the Spark to give longer range in Europe. The specs for the Air give 2000 metres for CE Europe on 2.4 Ghz. So I'm hoping that's what we'll get!
@TessLowe6 жыл бұрын
Ian in London we used to be able to use 2.4 by attaching the phone to controller via an otg cable. However the most recent 3 or 4 versions of DJI Go 4 have blocked telemetry to the phone if you do this. You do still get video so if you don't mind not having any distance, altitude or battery information you can still use 2.4G and get the longer range yes.
@TessLowe6 жыл бұрын
Ian in London I'm waiting to hear from mavic air users whether this is just a Spark issue or affects the Air as well. DJI seem reluctant to fix it despite many pleas.

2:30 Wanna know why its so loud? The legs are too short and the props are too small. Using non-folding props means they made the legs shorter so that it still folds properly, but that means lots of body overlap on the props which is bad. The smaller props also means they rotate at higher RPM which is not only louder, but a more annoying higher pitch. Longer legs with bigger folding props would have resulted in a much quieter drone.
@MrEndshow6 жыл бұрын
My Spark legs and props is shorter my new Mavic Air, but Mavic Air still the loudest. A lot.

I got my air yesterday and my MPP (keeping it too) is so much quieter. I'm going to give it a few days but I can see this getting returned.
@kris28826 жыл бұрын
I think DJI was also going for a certain size/feature set that set it apart from the Mavic Pro. If they made a drone with longer legs it'd only make it more similar to the Pro. Now, I'm curious if they can make a fixed prop with the curved design like the platinum props and if that would noticeably quiet things down.

Hi Kelly, Thank you for this very informative and excellent video. I’m looking to buy the Air and still indecisive as to which colour. I do like the red, but as you said it is a glossy finish and my concern is how easily can it be scuffed! What are your thoughts on the glossy finish since you own one? Have you had any issues with it? I don’t want to have to worry about always babying it when I use it to avoid scuffing it and getting those annoying tiny surface scratches. Many thanks on advance! I have the red and the black. The red is very cool looking, but you need a cloth to wipe it off. The black is also very cool looking - more "stealth". So if you like something more flashy, go red. If you like more stealthy, go black. I have never seen a white one in person, so I can't speak to that one.

As for how loud it is. FYI the human ear can hear 20 hz to 20k... You're used to the Platinum mavic Pro But they're almost the exact same loudness if it's just a regular mavic Pro vs the mavic air. And FYI as a sound engineer I can tell you that those sound pressure level meters ARE NOT ACCURATE.. Go look at the frequency response. Plus or minus 3 or 4 DB AT ANY GIVEN FREQUENCY.... The Mavic air in the medic Pro have a sound that completely different frequencies... People are using A WEIGHTING WHICH IS A MUCH NARROWER DROP OFF AT HIGH FREQUENCIES AND LOW FREQUENCIES WEIGHTING... So depending on what frequency the Drone is at if it's at the low end or the high-end you could be getting a completely inaccurate reading.. Your best bet would to use C WEIGHTING which covers a broader band of frequencies... Which would represent closer to what the human ear can hear and feel... But like I said even using C WEIGHTING with those Cheapo sound pressure level meters it's plus or minus 4DB at any frequency BEFORE YOU EVEN START MEASURING.. Also certain frequencies irritate the ear more than other frequencies regardless of how loud something is.. CONCLUSION THE MOST ACCURATE WAY TO FIND OUT HOW LOUD SOMETHING IS. IS USING A SPECTRUM ANALYZER HOOKED UP TO A VERY EXPENSIVE MICROPHONE THAT COVERS ALL THE FREQUENCIES PLUS OR MINUS .05 DB THROUGH THE WHOLE SPECTRUM LIKE WHAT WE USE AS SOUND ENGINEERS IN A COMPUTER RECORDING AUDIO.. That would mean expensive equipment.. just the microphone would cost at least $200 or more. Then you would need the Plug-In or Hardware the Spectrum analyzer so you could actually see what frequency and how loud that frequency is.. So if you're curious go look up that sound pressure level meter plus or minus in it's frequency response. I bet you it's 3 or 4db that would mean at any given frequency it could be twice as loud or softer.. That sound pressure level meter is only good in reality to tell you roughly if something is loud enough to hurt your hearing that's about it.. not good to compare sound pressure levels between different sounds unless the difference is dramatic...
