Mavis GC Remake V2

Mavis is a young, new diesel engine who works at the Ffarquhar quarry at the end of Thomas' branch line, where she shunts cars and puts them in their proper place. She has six small wheels hidden by sideplates just like Toby, which helps prevent accidents along the line. However, Mavis is quite inexperienced and has her own ideas on how to do things; ideas she is very keen to implement. As a result, she puts the cars in different places every day, which in turn makes things hard for Toby, who tells Mavis off for this. Mavis, however, thinks Toby is just being fussy and boring and continues to do things her way until at last Toby loses patience with her and tells Mavis that she can take her own cars to the goods station from now on. Mavis is very pleased with this, as taking cars makes her feel important. Later, at the goods station, Diesel oils up Mavis. When she complains to him about Toby claiming that only steam engines can manage freight cars, Diesel sees a chance to cause trouble and wrongfully informs Mavis that diesels are naturally better than steam engines before leaving. Mavis takes his words to heart, but she is oblivious that Diesel knows nothing about freight cars at all.
The line Toby uses is called the Quarry Tramroad and in one section, the line crosses a main road behind the station before reaching a farm lane. Here, there is a dip in the line which can be very difficult to cross in frosty weather, not to mention it's often muddy down the lane. Toby has found a solution to this: he stops just before reaching the lane, his fireman halts the traffic at the crossing and then Toby sets off once more and by using the heavy cars to help push him along, he makes it through the lane with no trouble. It is the safest and easiest thing to do to cross the lane in frosty weather. Toby tries to warn Mavis about the lane and how to cross it, but she thinks that he is just being fussy and ignores his advice.
Later, Mavis begins taking some freight cars to the station, but she doesn't realize that the cars - who are tired of being pushed around - plan to pay her out. Mavis soon reaches the farm lane, but instead of stopping before the dip, she stops right at the level crossing. Bertie and Terence arrive moments later and stop at the crossing too and Mavis - who believes she has one-upped Toby - tries to leave, but the cars take advantage of her mistake and begin holding back. Mavis is unable to move despite her best efforts, leaving the cars to laugh at her mistake and her wheels continue spinning helplessly. Workmen arrive and had begun sanding the rails, along with trying to dig away the frozen mud, but it was no good. Mavis was well and truly stuck, blocking the crossing, causing a great traffic jam and making everyone involved feel impatient and cross.
Meanwhile at the quarry, Toby is cross when he hears the news about Mavis. Toby's driver tries to calm him down, reminding him that Mavis is young and still needs to learn. Toby is not interested and is willing to let her manage the freight cars herself but Toby's driver reminds him that they are actually his cars and Mavis is technically not allowed to leave the quarry. Knowing that he will also be in trouble if Sir Topham Hatt finds out, Toby decides to go and help Mavis after all. Back at the lane, Mavis is in the midst of having an argument with an angry farmer when Toby arrives to help. With much puffing and wheel slip, Toby starts pushing Mavis and the freight cars back across the lane. The hard work makes Toby's fire burn fiercely and his fireman spreads hot cinders to melt the frozen mud. Finally, Toby and Mavis reach the top of the lane and Toby bids Mavis farewell and leaves. Mavis is too humiliated to thank Toby for his help and says nothing. Instead, she takes the cars to the goods shed and scuttles home to the quarry as quickly as she could.
