Max and Moritz

Born in 1832, the Germany artist "Wilhelm Busch" is regarded as one of the founders of the modern comic strip.

The translator did a really brilliant job. An important feature of this german tale is the rythmical trochaic pentametre and the rhyming couplets. I did not expect anyone to just only tanslate the meaning of the sentenes but also make the words fit the intonation. This is really impressive and well done. Whoever did this needs to be appreciated more. Edit: Of course the narrator was great as well.

I'm German and those were my favourite storys as a child. I especially loved "Max und Moritz" and "Der Struwwelpeter"^^

About 40 years ago in Afghanistan in my childhood I use to read the book about Max and Morits and I still love it.

Brings back childhood memories, growing up in Germany! Nau the Daumenlutscher, if I read that to my kids today they probably arrest me for child abuse . 😂

My Estonian parents raised me with these story books. Still better than the other story where the guy comes out of the closet and cuts your thumbs off

My German parents also read me the story of the guy that cut off the thumbs. The book was called Der Struwwelpeter.

Heh. a rather grim little ending. It’s interesting that this is the original source and inspiration for Rudolph Dirks’s The Katzenjammer Kids comic strip. Thanks for sharing it with us.🙂

In my Opinion is the english translation of the expolding Pipe from Mr Lämpel more hard than the german words. Rums da geht die Pfeife los mit Getöse schrecklich groß" It feel more expressiv than the german
