Max Canada Lynx One-on-One

Max, the educational animal ambassador has a moment of one-on-one with his human mom. Please know that when he paws my face or head, his claws are not out. They were out once when he snag my jacket. Max loves to mouth my hand and I try to deter that behavior but he has to try and that's why he keeps reaching for my hands with his paws. I attempt to distract him with commands like "face" in which if he quiets & gives me his face, he gets a good loving scratching. Listen to him purr through the whole video. Max has a pancreas disorder and requires enzymes on his food for the rest of his life. And yes, he offers me his butte all the time and insists that I pat him with a good boy pat on it.

Yep. Love tigers..went to Vegas largely to see the white tigers....then watched one stand on hind legs to scratch it's head on a branch 8' above the ground, and was very glad of the fence between us.

And badly trained like most domestic cats. You never let it paw you or use it's claws like you're some toy. I'm surprised it didn't seriously harm that woman. Cats don't understand 'no', you just walk away on them and they'll understand. Come back at another time and build a good relationship only, no growls or claws accepted.

That's right but this little cat is not a domestic cat. He will never be. He will always do things like that. For domestic cats.. If a cat uses its paws it is fine as long as the cat knows where the pain barrier is. They can learn which persons pain barrier is lower and don't play that rough with those. If you pet your cat on the wrong spot it will show you by a warning bite or a light hit. The problem is that many people pull there hands back what results in a claw-reflex of the cat and a scratch. Every cat is different. The people need to understand that the cat always has spots they don't like to be touched. So the cats behaviour as well as the peoples behaviour need to be trained. And you are right. going away and ignoring the cat after it got too crazy by playing with your hand helps to make them understand your pain barrier but i never did that. I just blowed on my cats face or made a hissing sound or both. It works the same way their mother or siblings do but to socialize a cat that way is very hard and takes much time. Normally they get socialized by their mom or siblings. They can do it much better that any human could. Just saying...

I have 3 wild cats who respect me and *never* use their claws on me. Took a few months to teach them. There are videos all over of guys handling wild lions, tigers, etc. One claw of those cats and the guy is dead. It is never ok, it's disrespect. Never provoke your cat or touch a wrong spot, it doesn't like that, it's equivalent to bullying. Bullying is never a good relationship, in a good relationship only good things are shared, either that or nothing. If you freak out on your children every time they do something wrong, guess how they're going to grow up, not very emotionally stable I believe. Cats will always fight among each other unless you stop them, even mother and child, they fight very often.

Max is gorgeous! His paws are huge! Everyone who keeps commenting that he belongs in the wild, obviously you haven't seen all of his videos. Max is an endangered species and he was born and raised in a zoo. It would be kind of cruel to put him in the wild, because he isn't quite wild, and he is not quite domesticated. He will always have some wild instincts in him, but he was probably hand raised by humans at the zoo, and therefore more comfortable around humans, than other wild animals. He is also the zoo's ambassador. I don't know his whole back story, but what I do know about him, I just don't think he would do well in the wild.

Far better that a gorgeous Lynx such as Max lives in a loving environment (which he most obviously enjoys) than being out in the wild and being shot/killed for his coat. As with ANY cat - from household 'mogs' up to Tigers, Jaguars, & Cheetahs, you'd very soon know if the animal wasn't happy. As most moggie owners know, we don't own cats - big or small - they own us, and they'll only really try to escape if, for whatever reason, they're unhappy or unsettled where they are. Big cats in wildlife parks etc will often be found to be ambassadors for their breed, allowing most visitors to feed them whilst under strict supervision from their keepers. They can also obtain bad-press as being dangerous, BUT which was often originally caused by the stupidity of a member of the public - such as the woman who was badly mauled after ducking down under a double safety barrier in order to get a "selfie" with her head close to the cage bars of a big, wild cat ! It just beggars belief that such stupidity exists, especially when you see the sheer physical size of the cat's paw, along with the wide spacing between the cage bars where it could (and DID) easily reach through to grab the lady ! If a (mainly) domestically reared cat such as Max was released out into the open, it would NOT automatically have a happy ending as the reader suggested. Max has serious health issues which will require meds for the rest of his life, or he'll die. Having had his meals with varied contents & nutrients, he could well struggle if he had to "learn" how to do it himself, which of course wouldn't include his life saving meds. As an animal lover, I agree that not all cage scenarios are the "best" thing to do, or to offer, BUT surely, a properly & well looked after cat in a cage is always preferable to a dead one ! ?

Max has known nothing but love & kindness all his life that's what makes his character so gentle & adorable. As w/ children, by the age of 2 they begin to learn what they live .. by 13 (adolescent) they start to live what they learn.

I've lived most of my long life in a town named after Bobcats & Cougars, indigenous to the part of Silicon Valley named after them; Los Gatos. I've only had the pleasure of seeing each just once in each case while driving, and only seeing their hind ends & tails as they slipped behind redwood trees as they crossed the mountain road. Perhaps it's just as well that they're so shy, but I've always yearned to watch them and even pet them!

That is true of smaller species of cats, but not big cats. True, all cats from the common house cat all the way up to the Liger possess many of the same traits. But big cats are far more unpredictable, and will sometimes attack unprovoked. A lynx however, does fall into the small category, and is a distant cousin of the common house cat. A lynx is no more likely to attack you unprovoked than that cute kitten you picked up at the pet store last month. However, lynx enjoy playing rough, and rough, uncontrolled play with a lynx can and has caused serious injuries to people, and even death in a few cases. If you are going to take a lynx into your home, make sure you get them young, and teaching them a suitable method of play should be your first priority.

Chef Danger I imagine it would be extremely important to raise a lynx or bobcat with other kittens so they learn proper limits to their play. I have a male F2 Bengal I adopted that was a rescue from a delinquent breeder that was shut down. He’s a big sweetheart but when he gets excited, I have to back off as he doesn’t know his limits and bites very hard when he gets excited. Play is restricted to toys and the laser pointer. Ive had him since he was 7 weeks and he was my only cat for about a year.

I know that game...it's called get closer so i can get a good bite. All in fun of course, no real harm meant. I deal with it from my big male,i can back him down most times. Sometimes he wins, and once in a while i catch a tooth or a claw. It's just the way he is. Which is most likely why he ended up at the shelter. 6 years ago i took him home and he has mellowed quite a bit. He is a very male cat. @Lee Willers - I'm surprised a girl does that! None of our girls ever did but all our boys except one does. I hear from many of Max's followers that their cats do the same. I guess we are all loved by our cats! Your Maine Coon must be beautiful. Anyone who asks me how to get a lynx, I tell them to get a Coon or Norwegian Forest cat instead. They are great pets and don't eat meat. Max sends his purrs!
