It used to be possible to attack with the Fetid Baghnakhs so quickly that the animation got stuck at one frame so the weapon did not move but dealt a constant stream of damage

i wish terraria's melee weapons were just a quick smear-frame slash animation with a static hitbox, like the overhaul mod, or the nail attack in hollow knight. the sprite hitboxes cause issues, and i'm tired of not being able to swing swords below the player. (directional melee mod is goated)

Depending on the version of the game you're on, they actually aren't (attacking every frame and therefore not having time to show an animation)

Tip: Use Celestial Shell at night for your extra accessory slot. It increases melee speed as well.

To get the real max speed you need to be in nighttime so you turn into a werewolf and increasing your atk speed

@@ArcticCN You clearly haven't tried a shroomight digging claw with max melee speed then. It does affect the swing speed just now how much mining power it takes to break the block. If it says melee damage it is affected by melee speed buffs.

I'd like to add that you can also have the "Tipsy" debuff, which increases melee stats and lowery defense by 4. Also, if you use the Moon Charm/Moon Shell in the extra Master Mode slot at night, you'll become a Werewolf, which gives you a buff that increases physical abilities, including melee speed.
