I was reading about Max Pomeranc, who played Josh. Apparently Max In real life... was already an amazing Chess player when they filmed the movie.. Thought that was pretty cool! This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid.

Here Josh is 17, but he thinks and speaks in a far wiser way than nowadays 17ers. A truly smart young man. One note: Bobby Fischer's anti-semitism was a kind of auto-punishment, since he was jewish from both parents (his true father was not Fischer, but a jewish man), so he was 100% jew. But you know, the brain of some people works in a odd way...

Max is only 9 here, but some of his tween-like behavior is precocious for his age--like burping for attention at the beginning, and being a bit put-off by the, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” question. Other behaviors are very much in keeping with a 9-year-old boy. He is clearly impressed with Josh and it’s interesting to see his body language when Josh is talking @4:13 through @5:18. You can see Max’s idolization in his gaze and with his subconscious need to touch the armrest where Josh’s arm had been. Those kinds of gestures, for a boy that age, communicate very real admiration.

indeed, bobby fischer was the best ever, so capablanca, so carlsen, so tal, i love them all, they are perfect TO ME. but i love chess even more, but i love the rubiks cube even more, love is not crazy, there are such and such passion , cause blood or pleasure, better believe in perfecction, mistakes are part of true perfection until the puzzle is complete. ask alekhine about passion, he broke tables or wood chairs as he lost, but din't practice kung fu, i admire josh and max. but sincerely i admire bruce lee more, and michael jackson, sorry I AM a nobody, i am the complete 1 corinthians chapter 13. sorry if late, better late than never, excuse my english, soy mexicano, and i do love everything, and every body, i'll tell ya 2 little secrets, don't tell anyone please: 1- clark kent is superman 2- and the one that really loves every single one and is here cara a cara ( face to face) is not the father or the son but the holly spirit, sorry for not having power enough in time , real almighty power doesn't make itself, somebody really good had to make it, to be here now i had to defeat 2 giants, god and the devil. in only 50 years, people don't need to believe, wisdom is the love for what is right, perfection is to persevere in such love. i live in california, when young i was a cholo, street fighter, only lost one time, never use conventional weapons, but wisdom and intelligence, they use to call me CASPER.

This child Max........ seems like he would rather not be there. Both peculiar "kids", that needed to be focused on something else. Josh actually gave it up. And Max likely did as well. Parents....... and having their kids be involved in something that is somewhat controlling actually..... doesn't look like a hole you want to put your child that you should be a steward of........

Max is a child here. Children fidget, especially when sitting in a chair that's higher than their legs.

@@mssrus Bobby Fisher who the movie was about in a way, had Aspergers...... or as they just put it, of the ASD world. Have three nephews with what is called Aspergers. Two older cousins have be diagnosed with being of the "spectrum". They have interesting "traits" that are somewhat specific/common. Our one who is 17 is quite obvious, and has specific things he does. The ones who are relatives are between 17 to 25 now. They are highly functional, but quirky at the same time, which is sometimes simply "interesting". Nothing that can't be handled. But in the vid here, that is kind of the usual kid behavior, but am always on the watch for certain things. But "these" days, kids are just odd in general. I blame it...... some of it..... on the tech world we are in. And sometimes parents who have no clue what being a parent, is. Every kid is different with no one handbook for all.

Josh is jealous that Bobby is vastly more skilled then him. That's also why Waitzkin ragequit out of Chess, because he sucks real bad compared to Fischer and he couldn't live up to the title of his pompous self-aggrandizing fictional movie here.
