Me and a friend played RE:Zero through parsec, which allowed us to play it as though it was an actual co-op game. As he could play Billy with the keyboard and I could control Rebecca with a controller. Honestly, it made the game one of the best experiences we've had going through the games.

It's a weak entry into the franchise. Terrible level design, horrendously worked back tracking and mindless puzzles. You can also hit a brick wall if you fail to collect enough ammo to fight the tyrant on the plane.

​@@mrpussinboots4252 I find the game to be great, but unfortunately it's best enjoyed... after you've already played through it, which is terrible game design. The game's crit path is actually reasonable and similar to previous REs - looking back on Max's playthroughs, some of the things that most annoyed him/irked him design-wise were completely optional: the exaggerated backtracking was a product of him making bad decisions, but that's simply something that Code Veronica very much lends itself to more than any other RE game. Once you know the crit path, and you know how to avoid softlocking yourself in advance, you realize the game is actually quite fun - though I agree some of the game design choices were really, really poor. I think this game would be remembered far better by the community today if it had enjoyed 2D backgrounds alongside a more classic-style fixed camera over the boring, plain 3D scenarios that we got. REmake came out only 1-2 years after this and just compared how the graphics of both have aged.

RE5 is my most played RE game SOLELY because of the bomb Co-op. I’ve beaten this several times over with my lil bro. It’s not a perfect game by any means (usually by the last third I want to break my disc in half) but it’s a good time with a friend/family.

Honestly the game is fantastic. People keep saying "Sheva's" AI, but they really mean the AI in general. I played both of them evenly. As a character Sheva was great, but it's obvious that the shit AI heavily reduced some people's opinions of her entire character, which is a shame.

Also, RE5 single-player actually is pretty solid :) The multiple ranks of S-tier is a nice touch, and I'm glad you placed REmake 2 and RE7 so high. I think the current state of the series is the best it's ever been outside of RE4 and REmake 1!

wholeheartedly agree, Ive never replayed a game more times then RE4. I have save files where I just stocked up in certain weapon ammo that was scarce, to just unleash it on another playthrough. The machine gun ammo and the projectile mine ammo. I have the infinite launcher, and Chicago typewriter but dont like to use them. I will however, carry the elephant gun and whip it out if things get hairy :D

You mean the Hand Canon, right? That game was and still is sick. My first Resident Evil game as well. But I played it a crap ton of times. I think like over twenty play throughs on the PS2 version. It looks pretty bad compared to the GameCube version (the original release), but is still a blast.

RE4 was simultaneously the best and worst thing to happen to the series. It still has an eerie atmosphere about it. 5 went all in with action, and 6 was a friggen mess. Edit: Though I’ve heard that the Revelations games were pretty good too.

As much I can appreciate some aspects of that game, I'm right there with Max on pretty much everything, CV is a rough experience, genuinely unpleasant to play at certain points. Atleast in RE6 I can do stupid action rolls and shit while I'm being bored lol. If there is an RE game needs a remake more than any other after 3's remake is done, its CV, but I doubt the fans of CV will ever be happy with that game if they fix it.

I've got a fondness for RE 0. I'd replay it over RE 5, 6, and both Revelations games. I'll admit that the inventory management just straight up, unequivocally sucks, but I actually really liked the partner mechanic. It was certainly better used in 0 than in 5 or 6. In 0 it was more of a puzzle mechanic than a combat one, which to me makes more sense. What's more, 0 manages to still be spooky in spite of having two characters, which is quite the feat.

REmake1 is perhaps the most “pure” resident evil game. The atmosphere, tone, the puzzle solving are absolutely amazing in this game. RE2, REmake 2, RE4, and RE7 are excellent games too that have a great horror theme. RE5 is one of the best co-op games.. These are the only Resident evil games that I’d call great.

Super happy you put Re6 as a B. The game gets a lot of hate but its blend of solid gun play and stupid action is why i love it. What game can I say I shot a zombie t-rex, zombie shark, zombie lion-thing, had a fist fight with a giant monster in a lava pit and more. Its like a B-movie for what is happening but is deadpan serious the whole time. If you just have fun with it, and play it with friends, it is just dumb fun.

I legit love the controls of RE6. Those controls are *crisp*. I'll admit that I was never into the typical "real" Resident Evil gameplay, so my tastes will obviously be different, and I only ever played it coop but it was my favorite RE game. I think it could have been a better game overall if they stuck with just one pair throughout the entire thing (Sherry + Jake would have been awesome to me), but I enjoyed what I got. Playing RE6 Mercenaries was some of the best fun I've had out of the entire series.

My main complaint with Code: Veronica is it's the only RE game I've played where I genuinely NEEDED that off-chance backup save. The part where you switch to Chris(no warning!) and eventually have to fight a boss with NO ACCESS to you shared inventory with Claire was brutal. How was I supposed to know I should have deposited all my excess items/weapons? It came down to either reloading several hours of progression back or commit to fighting the big bad with just the knife. Fuck that.

Dead Aim is actually a faithful RE game except when you shoot you go into first person light gun shooting mode. It's not an on-rails shooter. It does the traditional puzzle and inventory management stuff. It also has a great setting where you have to investigate an cruise ship abandoned at sea which is an amazing setting imo. I love that game and played it so many times. The gunplay is crazy satisfying.

@@adiris8827 There's not really a comparison, this is the most common mistake I see from this fanbase, lol the reason why resident evil 4 was hated by default, even if it is one of the best (if not the best re game). Both games only shares the camera and some combat elements... But that's it. RE4 is slower, far better designed (one rare instance of a 3d game who have metroidvania elements. No bullshit checkpoints here), not nearly as action packed, there are moments of survival horror, few, but they are there: like the village invasion with the first appearance of the chainsaw enemy, the cabin assault, the regenerator, etc... RE5 doesn't have any of that, it's a action game made for coop, not a classic resident evil experience. RE4 changed a lot of things for the better and still maintained some very few elements from the classic that are good enough to justify their presence. RE5 was the beginning of the end, one of the worst games in the series and, as a bonus, features the dumb main character punching a rock at the end... The silliest moment in the entire franchise.

I know I'm going to get crap for this but RE4 would only hit top c for me. I used to love it... so much so I beat it like 30 times and 100 percented it and everything.... but the more I go back to it over the years, the more I just start to dislike it more and more and more. Maybe it's because I love what RE2 Remake did with its camera angel, but the classic sensibilities... but I just can't seem to enjoy 4's style of gameplay anymore.

Am I the only one who actually liked RE: Darkside Chronicles? I actually liked it better than Umbrella Chronicles. Yeah the camera could get annoying sometimes, but my ex and I had a ton of fun playing this. It also allowed me to experience RE2 and Code: Veronica's story (or at least a condensed version of it). But yeah, RE4 is the best game in the series, hands-down.

Resident Evil Outbreak is actually pretty amazing, especially when you consider the online gameplay at the time of ps2. I had to buy a modem and a harddrive just to play outbreak1/2 and monster hunter which all three was amazing. I think they're like A at least. And I'm so sad that CV got place so low, I mean everyone hates steve but other than that i think the game is pretty good.

I think I love RE5 because of several factors: it was my first RE game, the shooting was better than mgs where stealth is usually a must and I'm an fps kind of guy, and that version of Chris is iconic. I couldn't even get through the first 15 minutes of RE6. It wasn't hard, every enemy just took head shots like bullet sponges. Also, Max can we get some art of Chris working out by punching a golem (pkmn)?

Finally, a reasonable position on RE5. It was great. The single player wasn't. And while not my favourite by any stretch, It is I think the one game I played start to finish in one sitting... then looked like a zombie afterwards. Single player... depends what you deign to give sheva. Make her a walking decoy it's not so bad. Play the game coop with someone who understands your playstyle... it's a brilliant game, mechanically sound, fun weapons, too much grind for cash but overall... really damn good!

I've been playing through the RE series for the first time over the past month. For context, I have played RE4 many times - in fact, it was the only one I had played before starting this journey. I have also seen the entirety of RE7 and played a good portion of it, but never beat it myself. Other than that, I never played a single other RE game. That changed over this past month. I started with RE0, then played REmake, then RE2 remake, RE3 remake, replayed RE4, played Revelations 1, played RE5, and I'm currently playing Revelations 2. After that, I plan on playing RE6, and then beating RE7 before RE8 comes out in May. I can definitely agree that RE4, REmake, RE2 remake, and RE7 are all top-tier RE games. Obviously, RE3 remake isn't on this tier list since it didn't exist yet, but I imagine that it'd probably get a B or C. RE5 and RE0 are the lowest ranked ones for me personally so far. Playing RE5 solo with Sheva's dumbass AI was an absolute slog the second half of the game. I can imagine it is quite fun in co-op though, so I can't 100% fault it. RE0 is just plain bad because of the inventory management and partner system. Save room music is pretty top-tier though.

Outbreak is such a weird game for me. I love a lot of what it's trying to do, I think you get a lot of really cool options for weapons, the combat is interesting, and it has my favorite character of any RE game (David). But it's just a bit too clunky, moving items between characters is just a little too awkward, and the inventory space is a little too limited to make it all work and feel good for the kind of game it's trying to be. It's the Resident Evil game that I ~want~ to like more than any other and that I feel a remake could do absolute justice to, but as it is now, the game is more of a cool novelty. I'd still recommend checking it out if you've never seen it before, though it's not something I'd really want to go back and do more playthroughs of.

Yeah, I think these are fair ways of putting it. Additionally, as cliche as it is, I think a term that can sum up most of the game's problems is: It was simply ahead of its time. It was made in an age and on a platform that couldn't support what it was trying to be. If it had come along another 5-8 years later, I think you could've gotten a substantially better experience that would still be enjoyable to play today. And if it were to be remade today, they've got an excellent core to start with, I think they could really turn it into something special.

I think you misunderstood what he meant. He was saying that the only thing that stopped him from placing Code Veronica in an even lower tier was that it had the classic formula.
