Actual lore time: 1. V´s summon animals are actually manifestations of Vergil's trauma and they are actually resembling bosses from DMC 1.. V was supposed to have a 4th summon (resembling a magma spider boss) but he couldnt make the spider cooperate and the spider left (in game you can see 3 active gates, but there is a 4th that is ruined, showing that V has no connection to the spider summon) 2. Rebellion (Dante´s sword that he stabbed himself with) can unify the human and demon halves of an individual, the Yamato (the katana) can instead separate the two.. Thats why Dante got a cool looking demon form while Vergil split into Urizen and V 3. Dante literally cant die, being stabbed is his daily slice of pizza

The lag bird, the lasaña and the bowser are the manifestations of Vergil's nightmares from when he was being controlled by the first bad guy in the first game, and they take the form of past enemies from the other games (they are not the original demons cuz Dante kills them all). They run on demonic power, but they are also tied to the human part of the guy (V) along his emotions and fears, so they end up forming a pact with V to help him survive his weak ass long enough to reconcile with his demon part again. The hole game is just Vergil tryharding his feeling of weakness from when his house got burned up to the ground by demons and his momma died while trying to find him in the yard (also she hid Dante in the closet before it so he also is kind of jealous of him). The demon wants to be powerful, and the human wants to not be weak in order to protect what he cares about, but as the games go on he kind of forgets his original motivation and just goes full crackhead on wanting more power. It's convoluted, but you can also lore vore the entire DMC franchise with yt videos about the topic (not with Maxor's, please don't ever start a loredive with a Maxor video please I beg you, I cried so hard whenever he made a joke and you didn't get it I almost stabbed myself with a sword to stop being a swoy wojack). Also just ignore the women. They are kind of important in the first games, but in the DMC5 they clearly didn't gave two fucks about them.

The hat is actually one of the most powerful weapons. Not for fighting, but because it can produce the most xp of any weapon in the game. Basically, it lets you max out all your abilities before the final battle. It's too bad, not useful enough to MJ the last boss.

Honestly, the ACTUAL lore of Devil May Cry, even for the games alone, is pretty intense if you really get into it. I played all five games (not counting the reboot) after seeing these two videos from Max0r because I was curious, and while DMC2 is completely irrelevant and bad and no one should play it, the others have decent storytelling. That said, even having played all 5 games, I also do not understand how the magic system works in this universe…nor do I understand how the existence of demons is apparently not a commonly known fact even though demon attacks are common enough that multiple people can make a living hunting them out of the same city. I'm guessing that's probably explained somewhere in the Anime or the Manga or the novels…or it's all a government conspiracy or something…but anyway, I would recommend playing the games to pretty much anyone, even people for whom the Devil May Cry gameplay isn't their kind of gameplay (like me) can find something to enjoy in them. Except 2. Don't play 2, trust me, you won't miss anything. Also, DMC1 is the best - DMC5 might be more fun to play, by a lot, but DMC1 is just overall the best despite its jank, it is a masterpiece in atmosphere and environmental storytelling. 10:16 I mean…personally, yes, playing as V is the most fun I've ever had in a Devil May Cry game, and I HATE playing as Dante, but of course, I'm not the target demographic for these games, so, y'know…my opinion isn't worth shit…
