The implication with Walter's 21 Sacraments is not just that Walter came back to Life, but also that the Silent Hill dimension Henry travels in the Game is Walter's Metaphysical Heart. It is why a Note from a member of the Cult calls "his" World Blasphemous. It is also why Young Walter is running around there. The implication is that Walter's corruption bled into the "Stone" so to speak, and split his Soul. And therefore, the Holy Mother he would create is Corrupted, too.

I'm glad that SH4 is finally getting some love. I've always felt there were/are deeper symbols in this installment as well - perhaps not as on par with the previous - but I'm happy to see I wasn't wrong. Keep up the good work, Max!

We already figured this out back in 2004-2005 at the old but amazing Silent Hill Forums called Silent Hill Heaven. We had the greatest lore specialists, the best puzzle solvers, Human SH encyclopedias (pre-Wiki days), and finally forum-wide cooperation!!! I made some incredible friends there posting/chatting daily! The objects Walter used for his ritual are some of the same James uses for the Rebirth ending in Silent Hill 2. Although, i do not remember seeing the Crimson Tome... It has been a long time seeing everything myself.....

You know what, maybe you can help me. Sometime around 2007 or 2008, I stumbled upon a Silent Hill forum/website as a kid. There was a particular image that always messed with me, lol. It was a torn-up, bloody teddy bear with long, razor-sharp blades protruding from its hands. Child me thought it must have been an enemy in a Silent Hill game I hadn't played, but I was never able to find that image again. You know of any old posts or archives that might point me in the right direction? Asking because it sounds like your Silent Hill Heaven experience was parallel to my own experience spending hours making genuine friends on Miiverse, lol. I know it's a weird ask - it's just one of those things that's always driven me nuts. 😂

I recently came up with s puzzle idea that linked to the ideas of Void, mind and and body (soul, mind, and body concepts also tired into this). The puzzle elements were also associated with the colors black white and red respectively. It's amazing to think on how subtlety concepts and ideas have informed me like the information from your videos. Thank you.

Who said the original Silent Hills (1-4) were not about Rituals? they always were, problem is, it is so difficult to catch that a lot of people don't give it a second chance that Silent Hill was created to fight against Resident Evil with a twist thanks to Team Silent, a more obscure and occult experience.

Great video. I think there’s so much to draw from between SH2 and SH4. What I find so interesting is, in the greatest hits version of SH2, the start of in depth world building explanation that we see in full with SH3 (I’m thinking primarily of the red god, book of lost memories and book of crimson ceremony). SH4, primarily through Walter, is seen in SH2 but his presence, like a ghost, lingers in these games. It’s all really fascinating.

One thing that occurs to me: If man is represented as the white (chrism/mist/liquid), and woman is represented as black (goblet/vessel/source), then doesn't it then follow that the red Philosopher's Stone alludes to child/birth (i.e. the true secret to eternal life -- reproduction)?

Writing before watching. I speed ran Silent Hill 2, 3 and 4 over the course of four nights for a friend years ago while also explaining the plot of each game to them. I had to wikipedia SH4 because I just couldn't wrap my mind around it fully. This as a die hard fan for those three games back when they had been released. I absolutely LOVE Silent Hill- Mostly the first 3, but I did just recently beat SH4 for the first time earlier this year! And I also really enjoyed Origins on my PSVita a lot more than I thought I would?!?! I beat SH1 when it came out in 99 when I was 14-15 years old and managed to beat it and get the Good ending and the whole experience just Amazed me!!! It was so frightening, so atmospheric, just so damned Good that I still enjoy playing it to this day!!! Great Video!!!

The Alchemical process can also be seen in Walter's story. He starts as a kid (The Fool / zero) and he takes the "Heroe's Journey" of 21 Sacraments/21 Arcana. It may be interpreted as a Reversed/Corrupted version of the "enlighten" process too, as referenced by the Cult notes.
