I have a 2017 KTM 150sx 2 stroke and have been using Amsoil Dominator and Motorex Crosspower 2T and mixing both at 50:1 and haven't had any issues. I do lots of trail riding, also have areas to get on the pipe and do a few times on the tracks each year. I don't race. I'm looking to use Maxima Castor 927 and hoping I can run it at 50:1 too since it's a better lubricant and protector since it has Castor oil blend in it. The only concern I have is the power valve gumming (people commenting on which might be the old original Castro oils of the past) up from reading whats avaiable from Maxima website, sounds like the formula has been evolving since it was first introduced and now has some synthetics and additives to keep things like power valve cleaner. With that being said, does it work well with power valve engines so they don't gum up like to original Castor oils did in the past? I’ve looked everywhere for Maxima reviews on Castro 927 2 stroke oils and really don’t see much online. I wish that Maxima would do a test review and show the results of the engine etc. Something that others have done with their oils. Thanks and looking forward in your response.

I started my motorcross racing when I was a teenager around 1975 and we all ran castor oil so it’s been around racing a long time. We called it “bean oil” Having 30-40 2 stroke motorcycles on the track at any one time created a cloud of smoke so regular oil's would choke the crowd out. So the race organizers like just to use the bean oil. The whole track smelled of McDonald's french fries.

The peak about 8-9hp at 16,000 rpm, and do durability testing for oil (the lower rod bearing has problems), and test at 16,000rpm wide open for a 1/2hr. 927 is a good oil, but it is not their favorite. When 2-strokes started to dominate over 4-strokes, bikes got less expensive and the sport took off like a wild fire in the USA, (10 times bigger than today in sales). When the modern 4-stroke took over, the prices got higher, much higher. What was the major factor difference? 2-stroke gained traction by more free market ideas, and 4-stroke were forced on the industry by a dictatorship called the EPA. If we want to support what is left of free enterprise ideas, we should reject the force of communism. The FIM 1986 production rule and the EPA force are the biggest 2 reasons why dirt bikes have become economically out of reach for a kid with a job. we accept the force, and we should reject it. I will never buy a 4-stroke MX bike. Doug in Michigan

@@maximaracingoils8192 I know if you said 50:1, the EPA got a hold of your brain. It is true that higher rpm should use more oil, but there really is not much difference in the capable rpm limit of 2-stroke dirt bikes 250cc and above. I have dyno tested 927 on small 30cc race engines that hit 21,000 rpm, at the manufacture recommended 25:1, torn apart finding great lubricity. I would not go any less than 40:1 for a 250-500cc dirt bike, and we have proven with good jetting, you can run very rich with oil and never foul a plug. For a 250 or 500, I could run anywhere from 25:1 to 40:1 for good lubrication with a good oil as 927, and my decision would be more along the lines of fine tuning the jetting for weather conditions after getting the brass jets dialed in for 60 degree (central temps @ 32:1 with perfect jetting) weather. 40 degrees, run a bit less oil. 80 degrees, a bit more oil. Hi Trevor...thank you for your interest in 927. The published shelf-life for all oils is typically 2 years, however if stored correctly you can usually extend this period. The biggest culprit for the deterioration of oils is moisture. This would be equally true between 927 and K2 or other oils.

@EarthSurferUSA Жыл бұрын
The environmentalists want you to run thin oil, and do not care how long your gas engine lasts. Stick to 32:1 with a quality oil like 927, and jet your bike well. The argument for less oil actually started with outboard boat motors where the exhaust is directed into the water, and we could see the un-burnt oil on the top of the water, (a thin rainbow sheen), from the engine that also ran rich. Proper jetting will burn almost all of the oil, even at a 10:1 gas/oil mix.

Hi Roy...we have a lot of contact from competitive and professional loggers that run 927 successfully in their saws. I was told in 82 that you could keep Castrol R30 mixed in your fuel container very long at all.. Is this true ?? 🤔
@EarthSurferUSA Жыл бұрын
Could keep, or could not keep? Pure castor like the old "Castrol R" would separate in some high octane fuels, like 110 AV gas. But the gas will go bad before the oil does, and plastic cans will let some of the gas properties escape though the plastic, (not sure of the details). I burned up a top end in 1983 because I mixed Castrol-R with AV gas. The oil would not stay suspended in the fuel, separated, and the oil sank to the bottom of my tank very quickly in 40 degree weather. After I burned up the top end, I mixed some in a glass jar, shook it up, and immediately watched oil droplets form and fall to the bottom of the jar. From what I know, all we have to worry about is suspension in the fuel, and the age of the fuel.

@maximaracingoils81925 жыл бұрын
Hi Tanner...both K2 and 927 are high performance oils and they compete for the same rider. 927 is our most popular oil and offers the ultimate in protection. K2 is a newer oil platform and was developed for riders that did not want to use a castor based engine oil. There are some benefits to K2: 1. It doesn't separate at cold temps with race fuel and 2. It is cleaner burning when the jetting is off. WHen an engine is properly tuned, both oils are clean and will not cause issues in the powervalve. If the engine is jetted "fat" or rich, then K2 will produce less buildup in the powervalve. Flip side, 927 makes the most power - more than any other 2T oil - especially when it's revved. Additionally, 927 is unmatched in its beauty when burned (the smell!) Both are great choices.

Castor 927 and Formula K2 premix oils are best suited for racing and high-rpm trail riding. Both offer excellent engine protection as well as create maximum power/torque by creating a durable film of lubrication when put under high load and high temperature situations. The difference between them lies in the chemistry: K2 is a synthetic oil combining a proprietary blend of polarized esters for maximum friction reduction and a clean-burning additive system. 927 uses highly refined castor oil as well as some ester to create a lubricant with unparalleled film strength and an exhaust scent that is synonymous with 2-stroke motocross.🏍💨
