This really shows how far drones have come, not only in consumer drones, but also the building process for fpv drones. The ability to solder components to a aio board, screw them to a frame, and spend 20 minutes in betaflight to create a whoop seems so easy compared to what it actually takes to build from scratch. Unbelievable work. Also I love how close it is in looks and design to a 5in, even including the wide frame and top mounted battery

The great thing about arduino is that you only really need the chip itself. It doesn’t really need many passive components. You could order a custom PCB with all the required components and a solid copper layer at the bottom as a ground plane, acting as a built-in shield. You can make the main board as thin and light as you want, even flexible! Give it a try.
@AVI-xo1kb8 ай бұрын
but that again raises the difficulty of diy, he prolly wanted to make it simple so that anyone can try.
@PunakiviAddikti8 ай бұрын
@@AVI-xo1kb You'd think that, but designing your own PCB is easy to learn. Your computer does all the heavy lifting and if you wish, you can try autorouting. That means the software connects everything for you. Then just upload all the files and order your new PCB's for cheap, and I mean cheap. Depending on the size and complexity, you can get 10 PCBs for as cheap as 5 bucks. But there is a caveat. Soldering SMD chip packages can be very challenging. You can also order complete PCB's but that'll cost you parts+extra.
@AVI-xo1kb8 ай бұрын
@@PunakiviAddikti that is the point IK pcb designing is easy you can do it yourself after a bunch of tutorials as I am learning pcb designing but pcb isn't as cheap as you think depending on the location it will raise the project cost significantly for example at my location if I do this project the cost of pcb simply outweighs the pros and joy of doing this project and again if you are near fab it's cheap but if you are far away then you will notice the difference
@MaxImagination8 ай бұрын
Making it modular allows for others to recreate the drone with more ease. Using PCBs cuts out most makers already, especially those who are beginners or who won't bother ordering an additional PCB alongside the components.

In the application, the quadcopter is shifting its yaw direction by 1 degree every second or so and I have no idea why. I had also calibrated the accelerometer and yields the same result.
@MaxImaginationАй бұрын
I have also faced this thing, but it shouldn't affect the actual flight once in motion. I believe this happens due to a bit of electrical noise that the MPU6050 is experiencing which may be causing this drift. I may be wrong, but it would be worth testing if adding a capacitor filters this out or adding that copper/aluminum sheet to block out the EMI from the motor driver board. If this doesn't help, then it may be a defect in all those MPU boards.
@Code.R4364Ай бұрын
@MaxImagination thanks max. It worked well at first also flying well, but now this problem has appeared since two or three days.becuse of that when i give full throttle my 2 moters are slowing second by second and drone rotating without lifting up. I made that using arduino rf nano and geard coreless motors.maybe i have to add magnetometer to it. Sorry for my weak English.thank you.
@MaxImaginationАй бұрын
No problem :) You can counter this problem with the drone rotating because of 2 diagonal propellers turning slower by adjusting the rate gain value (you can see how to do this in the later part of my video). It should help smoothen out this effect. Another thing to check is that your mosfets are not overheating and are outputting the expected voltage between 3.7-4.1V to the motors.

Nice work , I remember making multi wii and aurdino based drone last year. I had similar issue to resetting Multi wii on max throttle . I knew it was due to emi but didnt get the tangible solution. Great that you kept on going and solved this problem. I will retry this project again. Once again great work!!

How much this is adding up in total ? If i have to buy all the part + the equipement to build it ?
@Mineralmining-q9m4 ай бұрын
@@outmohamed9184 ya I want to build it
@MaxImagination4 ай бұрын
That would be hard to estimate, so I suggest you see for yourself when you add all the supplies, tools and other equipment to your cart. However, I can say that the drone once built contains $50 worth of parts and with the goggles + transmitter, a total of $150-200 USD. Cheers!

You could eliminate the noise at the pins, by controlling the motors over a transistor. You put the transistor on power and the motor and the base to the pin. So when the pin emits a signal it opens the transistor and power is getting to the motor but no noise gets to the pin.
@MaxImagination8 ай бұрын
You mean an additional set of transistors to control the gates of the MOSFETs? I have heard from others saying it's better to use logic level FETs with Arduino boards. However, the copper sheet fixed those induced EMFs despite the unfiltered noise making it work in the end 🙂
@fluminox138 ай бұрын
@@MaxImagination sorry, I forgot about those. Then idk. Maybe your Diode caused the problem, but I don't think so. It coould also be, that something is wrong with the mosfets, maybe you could try using an different kind of transistor. But you found an solution and this is the important part

Very good work. 13:30 however i would say it is generally false. I have done testing using separate pwm frequencies to drive dc motors and found that frequencies lower than 1kHz and above 50Hz is kind of the sweet spot. Anything below 50, there will be noticeable off times. Anything above 1kHz, the motor starts to lose power due to the inductance of the motor.
@MaxImagination8 ай бұрын
Thank you! I have come to realize that. During the project, I've been told that a normal motor PWM frequency is in the tens of thousands range. Apparently, lower frequencies are key. Cheers!

you can not even imagine how much you helped me by creating this video butt it would be veryyyyy veryyyyyyyyyyy helpful if you made the motor driver part a little bit more clear with better instructions........ or just made a dedicated pcb for the motor driver that we could order from online such as from JLC PCB or PCB WAY...... that would have been veryyy veryy helpful as making the motor driver by hand would be veryy challenging and difficult for someone like me........ and also the fpv camera that you gave link to says it is unavailable and I can not find it from any other website that is available in my region.......Can you pleasee give me some suggesion on what I can do ?? and again THANK YOU VERYY MUCHHH....... veryyy good content......keep going.....I am always with you....

Thanks for your feedback and support!. To further help someone like you, I may include some close-up images of the motor driver in the project files folder soon. Keep your eyes peeled for that. Also, keep in mind that there's a circuit diagram showing how the motor driver is wired, making it easier to follow along to the tutorial. The FPV camera I ordered for this project is currently out of stock, I'm not in control of that. Maybe give it some time and the sellers may restock it. I may also look for a suitable alternative out there to link. Cheers!

Thank you! Not from what I see the code is compatible with. It's adapted to work with the NRF24L01 modules.

Looks great, but what about weight distribution. How do we know its going to balance?
@MaxImagination3 ай бұрын
I calculated the drone's weight distribution up front. The parts are distributed accordingly so you do not have to worry about that. Similar to how you balance a plane, you can play around with how components sit until the center of balance is directly in the center of the drone.

How you find the drift of the gyro? When flying angle mode it is quite challenging as the gyro starts to drift after about 20/30secs and seems that blending in the accelerometer readings is not enough to adjust for it. Just wondering if you had same issue. Thx
@MaxImagination15 күн бұрын
Hi there. I haven't flown it much in angle mode. In position mode only. I haven't noticed drift in position (default) mode.

@MaxImagination8 ай бұрын
This is as easy while cheap as it can get. To make it easier to assemble, use a PCB with tinier (SMD) components. However, it may not be cheap.

great video! i have a question, how did the copper plate reduce the noise you were getting? im getting noise on my motors too but im pretty stuck with using snubber circuits as of now. thanks!
@MaxImagination2 ай бұрын
Thank you! The grounded copper plate I added blocked the EMI from the motor drivers (transistors) from affecting the Arduino and Gyro. I suggest you implement this.
