Good explanation, still relevant today and this channel is probably the best in terms of content that has been made available to the general public without any paywalls and free of cost. Definitely one of the best, if not THE best teachers out there for CAT. An alternate way to approach minimization problems is to calculate complements. If 91% of the students play Football, then 9% don't play football. Similarly 14% don't play Hockey, 15% don't play Cricket and 10% don't play Badminton. The minimum in this case would be 100-9-15-10-14=52% which is nothing but what was derived in the minimization distribution. I really hope there's a part 2 for maximization constraints (eg. the 70% Badminton case mentioned)

I have a doubt, in case of finding the minimum number, you first gave one chocolate to each, as per the condition, then 3 chocolates to max possible number, then why can we give 2 chocolates as well, and then see what number of 4 chocolates have to be given ? basically give one--> give 3--> give 2--> then cherck for 4??

A market research group conducted a survey of 1000 consumers and reported that 720 consumers liked product A and 450 liked product B. What is the least number of consumers that must have liked both products? Key in the value how we will aply this method into this problem ?
@bidyutparnamitra32874 жыл бұрын
Here, the number of chocolates = 720 + 450 = 1170 to be divided among 1000 people. To minimize the number of people getting two chocolates each we will have to maximize the number of people getting one chocolate each. So we will give one chocolate to everyone, ie, 1000 chocolates are given. We are left with 170 chocolates. Now each person has one chocolate each and we are left with 170 chocolates. These 170 chocolates will be given to 170 people. So the minimum number of people liking both products is 170.

For minimum chocolates why can't it be 26 people? As 251/2= 126 people but only 100 are there. So the remaining 26 people will get 4 chocolates
@prashant59743 жыл бұрын
OMG, dear..... 252/2 i.e 126 pairs of chocolates to be distributed now, 100 will get 2-2 each so every one have 3 each. Now we are left with 26 pairs (52) chocolates. Now one person can get max of 4 chocolates ( aa only 4 sports) and they already get 3 each. So you have to give 52 ( 26 pairs) to 52 individual and 52 people will get 4 chocolates i.e they will play all 4 sports.

Sir, thanks for the video. I have a query. What if the question asked about max/min no. Of students playing exactly 2 games? Thanks in advance.
@ankeshsingh25764 жыл бұрын
Total chocolates=352 Total student =100, each student should get 1: chcolates left: 252: Now each has one chocolate, to maximise 2 : out of 252 chocolae we can give one more choclates to every student, so maximum no of students who can get exactly 2 will be 100. to find minimum number of students with exactly 2 chocolates we need to maximise students getting 4 chocolates, because after wards chocolates left for further distrubution will be lesser if we maximise students with 3 chocolates, solution: each student has 2 chocolates and we have 152 chocolates left, lets distribute 2 more chocolates among students : 152/2=76 so 76 students wil have 4 chococlates and 24 will have two chocolates exactly

100 Students ---- 210 Chocolates Assuming atleast one chocolate with every student, any student can possess 1 or 2 or 3 chocolates Minimum Case: 1st transaction : 210 - 100 = 110 ( Each given 1) From the remaining 110 , give 2 to 55 students Therefore = (55*3)+ (45*1)= 210 , i.e 55 student with 3 chocolates each and 45 students with 1 chocolate each. Min : 0 Maximum Case: 1st transaction : 210 - 100 = 110 ( Each given 1) From the remaining 110 , give 1 more to every 100 students 110-100 = 10 Now all the 100 students have exactly 2 chocolates each. But we still have 10 more to go. Out of 100 students, 10 will get one more 100-10 =90 Therefore = (90*2)+ (10*3)= 210 , i.e 90 student with 2 chocolates each and 10 students with 3 chocolates each. Max:90 Hope this helps, Cheers !!

It is simple and explained very well. First thing is to satisfy condition that every student will have 1 sport 100 students -> 352 sports calculated 352 - 100 = 252 Now in case of maximum, Hume zyada se zyada logo ko distribute karna haina toh 252 ÷ 3 (100 student already have 1 sport allocated to them) Max = 84 In case of minimum, same ke pass 1 sport hai , toh ab 2 de do 100 *2 252 - 200 = 52 Ab yeh 52 students ko 4 sports Dena hi hoga coz woh excess hai I hope it helps😊
