MDD hum lab me check karte hain ki sample ka maximum dry density ( compaction) kitna ho sakta hai..example 1.98 gm/cc FDT hum field me check karte hain example 1.96 gm/cc Ab MDD se compare karte hai 1.96/1.98 =98.9% Compaction hua hai field par . It means aur kiya ja skta hai ,

My question is if we are interested in dry Unit Weight of soil then why are we adding water? If we add water to the soil sample then soil will not be completely dry and we have to consider bulk Unit Weight where as we require dry Unit Weight

The moisture content has to be calculated.Not the 4,6,8,10,12% added, for calculating dry density.
