Got the original PST when I was 14, accidentally dropped it in the Ocean but was able to see the metal reflection on a calm day, so I got a hold of a pair of very big speakers from a scrapper, took out the magnets and tied them to a very long fishing line (grew up in a costal village where long lining is very common) and I managed to get the magnets to catch the leatherman, and I still have it and use it regularly now 20 years later... It's been along with me to many different countries around the world.

I carried a PST since the late 80s, loaned it to a coworker who broke the plier tip. Leatherman replaced the broken tool for free with a new PST. Carried it for another 20 years and worried how I'd replace it if I lost it. So, when the Bond came out, I immediately bought it. I now have the original PST and the new Bond. I now carry the Bond with the pocket clip, and have loved it. If I wear pants that don't work well with the pocket clip, I get the old PST in it's custom sheath to wear. Perfect combo.

I've had my original leatherman since the mid 90's, and one thing I've noticed over the years is that there is something about the shape of the phillips head driver that allows it to bite well into nearly any phillips head screw around. Has anyone else noticed that?

The curl is where it’s at. One handed locking blade and scissors. Hear you on victorinox for sure. Comes with pocket clip. Better file by leaps and bounds. Still light. Bit driver take it or leave it, but you will eventually trash the Phillips on the one you are showing if you use it. Speaking of screwdrivers, I have been carrying a matador 0694 in place of my PB 6464. Pretty neat tool. Very inexpensive in Europe.

@@maxlvledcI waffle on that. On one hand, I like a “real” PH2 screwdriver, on the other hand they wear out and that renders the multitool much less useful. The flat bits are ok (especially if you swap in the PH2 PH1 bit as opposed to the one with the Phillips 1 and 2 hybrid and 3/16 that comes in them), but a real driver or even real bit they are not. Hence I have been pocketing that matador recently. PH2 and 1/4 slotted in about the lightest usable form factor and has 8mm and 10mm nut drivers (I think that’s what they are, I have not used them). Sometimes you need to poke or prod something. 😂

The Leatherman Leap is impressive as well (your video was probably the most comprehensive, explaining why the Leap stands out as a proper tool). It's akin to a Supertool disguised as a child's toy. While the Bond might include one or two less practical tools, merely to fill the quota, every tool on the Leap serves a practical purpose. Additionally, the Leap's pricing is quite reasonable, likely attributed to its toy-like appearance, which doesn't compromise its functionality.

@@shelp7858I carried one for a bit and didn’t much care for it. Don’t recall the model but it was the titanium one that was close to $200. The cutters went dull pretty quickly, mostly only used the knives, and the file. Think I left it in some ceiling tiles somewhere. To be fair though I did probably use it quite a bit more than most do. Carried it, a driver, and a meter for troubleshooting commercial/industrial HVAC service. Obviously it’s not meant to completely replace regular tools, which I’d get after diagnosis but would make some electrical repairs with it instead of going back to the van if I could. Our corporate office handed out some Gerbers to all the techs during a meeting which I preferred once they loosened up a bit. Can’t say much on longevity though before I lost those shortly after as well 😂 Just stick to my normal tools in a small veto bag these days but again, kinda not the best use case for these so I suppose my criticism is a bit invalid.

@@shelp7858 I’m aware of being able to replace them but seemed kinda pointless when they went dull within weeks and really pointless after losing them lol. Used them for cutting and stripping wire quite a bit in the short time I had them even though they were not the best for that, just had em in my pocket. Again, something like this is more suited to get you out of a pinch more so than to be used as a primary tool like I was for the time I had them. For most it probably is a non issue, just wasn’t that impressed for my personal use which is probably abnormal and not what they are meant for.

The Rebar might have a design flaw and possibly the Bond due to the similar handle design. When applying a decent amount of torque to the screwdrivers my Rebar handle would twist open so wide that the locks would pop out of the tool. It happened soo many times I retired it. Being that the Bond has nearly the same handle but no lock I'm not sure how it'll perform under medium to hard torque but just thought I'd share the experience with the screwdriver.

For me it's a bit of a mixed bag, but I'm coming around to the Bond pretty quickly. The Bond that I bought is pretty rough around the edges (literally) pliers started extremely stiff, file rips your hand if you crank down on the pliers because it protrudes slightly. I think that I was expecting the tool to be as perfect as it could be out of the box because it's a Leatherman, and this was far from the case. The new style blade has a pretty crude grind and is thick behind the edge. However after some filing/sanding pretty much all of my hangups with it are gone, and it feels like an extremely dependable and light multitool, and much better value than most Leatherman models.

How do you distinguish between “new” and “old” editions…. There are deals on eBay, $50, $60, etc, but not sure if they are improved versions or not…. Can you help???? Mahalo, Joel P

You're not going to touch on the change to wharncliffe? I feel like that was the actual needed change that made this thing safe to use.

It's more of a sheepsfoot, and I personally love the blade change.

It was a toss up between the Leatherman Bond and the Leatherman Rebar…l chose the Rebar…but it was close and if I didn’t have my original PST it probably would’ve been the Bond. I even liked the name. Cheers.

I have had a Wave V1, and then Wave+ on my belt everyday pretty much since they came out with it. I think it would be fun to buy these other models, but I can't imagine carrying anything other than the Wave, other than maybe a Charge, on my person, so it would really be an inefficient use of limited funds for me. Especially since wages haven't been raising with this rampant inflation.

With my rebar, I carry a pair of fiskars folding scissors. Really capable cutting ability in a slim package. The scissors go in my fifth pocket.

All non locking tools...no thanks. I'd take the Rebar over it easy even though $20 more and knowing about the hardwire cutter issue. Plus you get a saw and serrated knife.

Hey Dom, my brother got himself a bond and should be good for him, but the pliers are stiff. How can you fix that if there is a solution?? Also my dad’s PST is loose where the pliers hook up to the frame is there a way to tighten it?

He's got a vid on it and I also believe Ben from tool crib got one too

Wd40 and play with it if that doesn't work, diamond paste and play with it

I wish there was an easy answer, but there are a number of methods to make it smoother. I have a few videos on it.

I really love my bond and have had zero issues with it. I noticed the changes to the bond on their site a few weeks back and was surprised that they didn't mention anything about it. I think they should have made the blade a sheeps foot or coping blade instead of whatever the hell that is, but otherwise I would still call it a perfect multitool. Personally for me the Bond is the only model leatherman currently makes that I'd ever buy or recommend ( I'd probably recommend the rebar I guess ) , I consider introducing the rebar to be the only good decision they've made in the past 15 years. I truly hate every other decision they've made. Btw I've noticed that they changed the file to that weird tanto tip looking file from the rebar, but it's not in any of the stock photos .

I can’t quite tell from the video: is the new blade bead blasted like the previous blade, or does it have a satin finish?

Satin

There's also the Daicamping DL6 & DL3 with, rougly, the same toolsets for $20 USD or the new DL7 with several similarities (and titanium alloy handles?) for $40 USD.

The blade shape is different. Notice the tip is lower down.

yep, blade is completely different.

Is the new blade longer than before?
@franticflintstone79999 ай бұрын
@@m5msm I think the video said the cutting edge is longer, but overall they look roughly the same size. The new one has a different shape and better mechanism. The old one had a design flaw.
@m5msm9 ай бұрын
@@franticflintstone7999 thanks i missed that. I was wondering whether the blade edge is still less than 3 inches (UK law allows a non-locking folding blade where the cutting edge of the blade is 7.62 cm (3 inches) or less.) Original blade was 2.6 inches
