If you're coming here again, I'll show you the "real" Prague, where the locals live and enjoy life - and the tourists should do the same. It's a bit sad to see the same places over and over again on KZbin.

BTW there's nothing traditional Czech about Trdelnik, it's just very cheap and easy to make so it can be sold for quite high prices to tourists. You won't find trdelnik stands outside of tourist hubs. The signs say traditional just to attract tourists but no-one in Czechia heard about it 20 years ago. It's basically one of most annoying Prague tourist traps.
@maxnomadtravel

@@maxnomadtravel Yeah, its traditional in Romania and to Czech lands it came from Hungary, but it was never popular here, comparing to propper Bohemian pastry its like cheep trash. So some not very honest sellers are offering that to tourists as something traditional Czech/Bohemian/Prague which is just a lie ;)
@letecmig
@letecmig 3 жыл бұрын
@@maxnomadtravel Well, than Big Mac is 'traditional Czech dish' as it has been around longer than Trdelnik. The reason why locals are kind of irritated by this Trdelnik nonsense is that it shows how little people coming to PRG as tourists care to know about the place they visit and its culture. (I do not blame people who sell this..... its supercheap to make and profit margins on this are superhigh)

Prague is one of my all time favorite cities in Eastern Europe. I have visited Prague many times and it just gets better and better. Prague is one of the few cities in Europe that was not bombed during World War II so all the wonderful buildings are still standing. When they renovate a building they keep the outside walls and redo the entire inside of the building. I have to say they do amazingly good work when they renovate these old buildings. I cannot wait to return to Prague as it is such a beautiful city and the Czech people are so friendly.

I agree. My experience in Prague was great and compared to earlier visits it was much less overrun by tourists which was great, too. :)

The only mistake is to call Prague or all Czech lands "Eastern Europe" its actualy Central Europe and the cultural heritage is definately westen. ;)

@@cggs002 that's interesting. So Baltic countries and Slovakia aren't Eastern Europe even they are much more Eastern than Czech lands. Austria is not Eastern Europe even Vienna is more Eastern than Prague and central Europe propably doesn't exist. Czech lands were always (except 40 years of communist regime) part of Western world. Just look on the history and culture.
@letecmig
@letecmig 3 жыл бұрын
"Prague is one of the few cities in Europe that was not bombed during World War II so all the wonderful buildings are still standing" ... this is a popular nonsense explanation why PRG preserved so much medieval architecture compared to other major European capital cities. The real reason: PRG became provincial town after the Habsburg takeover of the kingdom of Bohemi(Czechia) after 30 years war. The building activities, money etc. was in Vienna afterwards. So PRG was not 'redeveloped' over next two and half centuries. And when the PRG started to become 'modern national capital city with funds' again in the second half of 19th century, people already understood that there is some value in those 'old unpractical architecture', so the heritage has been preserved by the city authorities. This is the reason why cities like Vienna or Paris lost their medieval core already 100 years before the WW2. And also not that anything 'historically valuable' was rebuilt in any capital city even if they were bombed during the WW2, including Berlin or Warsaw. I must say that 'explanation with bombing' is super lazy yet its told and retold:):)

My favourite city in Europe, just a couple more things you could have added - Vyšehrad Castle which is a relaxing place to walk around (well, once you climb up the hill to get there) with a couple of nice bars and great views over the CIty. Also there is the Black Light Theatre which has venues around the city and is a really cool performance art type thing which is hard to describe unless you have ever actually seen it but makes for an enjoyable couple of hours in the evening. And one more thing - the Vytopna Railway Restaurant on Wenceslas Square where the food and drink is brought to your table by model trains, it never gets old!

The candy was definetely not fresh. I have one candy store next to my house. They weren't opened in lockdown due to small amount of turists and restrictions (I don't know, I don't mind). But they still had their candies in barrels in shop windows so you could see if they are changing them for new. They werent, so you probably bought few months old candy for 250 Czk. (I know there isn't anything to spoil because its just chemicals but...) Also trdelník is not Czech. Prague beer museum looked like turist trap too, but I've never been there. Vinohradský parlament was very good choice - good beer and food like from my babička.

Thank you so much! I hope you had a great time in Prague. :) One food that I didn't mention that seems to be quite typical are the spa wafers "lázeňské oplatky" in Czech. It's a tasty sweet that is produced in the spa towns of the Czech Republic.

Shouldn't the name of this video be TOP 26 Things to Do in PRAGUE Czech Republic 2020? I had the opportunity to do a bit of travelling during 2020 and things were so different during the pandemic (smaller crowds for sure!). Some great info in here but I clicked on this video to get up to date info about Prague before going there next month.

I moved to Prague for work and realized that Bratislava is a better place to live than Prague ... cycling, hiking, swimming in natural lakes and good food is gone ... 😢

I had the chance to visit Prague in December 2019, Pre-Covid and I can not wait for things to get back to normal to go there again, I have been to 52 Countries so far and Prague is still my favorite European city and without doubt the best winter destination ever, very cool video but avoid the candy stores, it is a Hungarian traditional sweet not Czech.
