when 15 vikings can destroy an entire sky toss army, and you can make 2 of them at a time and they are cheaper than all skytoss units. XD its so stupid, literally all you do to counter skytoss is emp the entire army which nukes 50% of their hp, and then you a move with your vikings. Its So stupid tbh, oh and vikings have the longest range ever

There are so many whiny metal league Protoss players now who have no objectivity. No, it doesn't "just disintegrate everything" lol. If you actually pay attention to that late game, Terran often has an army comp with more different types of units than Protoss. Liberators often get instantly destroyed for next to no value, Disruptors are coin flippy. Deal with it.

EMP is OP. I remember a video where Lowko talks about the sound effects of spell casters. It really makes you think that some attacks are more powerful than others. I saw a video about the sound effects of guns in FPS games. Even when the stats of the weapons are the same, players usually perform better with the gun that has a stronger sound. I totally think it's the case with EMP. Because it doesn't have a strong sound effect, usually we don't realize how powerful it is. Storms, on the other hand, look way more devastating.

It has nothing to do with optics or sound, emp is simply way more powerful then storm. It does instant damage, it drains energy (so it's like storm plus feedback) and it reveals invisible units. If that's not op I don't know what is.

I always have the impression that whenever we analyze the Protoss, they always seem weaker than the others and ultimately have no advantage. If we look at the units: adept, sentry, DT, carrier, tempest, void ray, phoenix are generally weak in the meta. Zealots are effective with upgrades, stalkers are good for poking, but they have low DPS in fights, which creates awkward moments where stalkers try to destroy 20 Vikings but not only fail to do so, but also cause the Protoss to lose the ground battle. Immortals are broken, but 2 immortals against 50 roaches or 20marines/10marauders ... well disruptors are a better choice. It takes a lot of resources to destroy a Terran base, whereas an 8 marine drop can wreak havoc. It's impossible to poke; zealots will focus on the PF and die. Sending DTs? Terran will scan and it's over. Whereas if a Terran sends a ghost, if the Protoss hasn't placed a cannon, it's inevitably 5-10 probe kills for 1 ghost. Terran/Zerg can produce 4 Vikings/30 seconds, 999 corruptors/29 seconds for 3 carriers/69 seconds. Vikings and corruptors are versatile, excellent range and effective against ANY type of flying unit(except mass muta, but who really plays mass muta). I won't talk about ghosts; we already know the recipe. In short, the main reason Protoss win is often either by chance, creating unexpected situations, or by punishing their opponent's mistakes/creating chaos.

The real buff protoss need is a terran nerf to the ghost's EMP... it's kinda frustrating to loss all shield to a single EMP shot, no matter the radius of it

That last game was sick, MaxPax realizing that after ***SPOILERS*** killing two medivacs full of units, killing the contents on the third, and knowing that it would take time for fourth one full of units to get back, it was the right time to strike at Clem's base: You can literally see on the minimap that he's sending everything he got at Clem. Clem got off a nice emp at the frontline of archons towards the end, but it was too little too late. What a game.

Its curious how maxpax seems to get vastly better engagements with the same units, but i think i get it. Normal protoss players think of "front zealots, stalkers next" and everyone engages at the same time. Seems smart, but the two forces drift apart and zealots die for no benefit. Maxpax rolls in "stalkers first, zealots next" and in retrospect it makes a ton of sense. The stalkers mix into enemy ranks, splitting spash damage, baiting friendly fire, but most importantly they absorb the first wave of attacks on shields. The zealots swoop in with full hp, taking the aggro off the stalkers, and bring superior DPS to clean up. Its like starting with blink pikemen, then relieving them with charge cavalry.

EMP is aoe instant dmg vs Protoss, instant aoe feedback, and also detection when Terran already has other easy detection options. It is very OP specifically vs Protoss and it is why Terran has been destroying Protoss in major tournaments for the last decade. The Zerg v Protoss matchup is more balanced, no major bias. The Zerg v Terran again is balanced. But EMP is a major hard counter vs Protoss as it negates their Dark Templars, High Templars, and does heaps of instant dmg to Protoss army.

By the way Lowko, MaxPax so far is actually up on Clem 5-4 so far in 2024. Though at the end of 2023 from October 23rd to November 20th Clem beat MaxPax 7 times in a row and in general in 2023 Clem was up 34-21.

though i am definetly not on the high end of players, i feel protoss is still missing something. To me, it feels like Z&T have high value end-game spells that are always viable in aggressive playstyle, with EMP, Abduction, Snipe, Neural - even mass raven with turret and global teleport of BCs. Whereas P seems to have the mothership which IMO is barely ever getting a return on investment of, since you only get ever 1 and thus its basically always sniped. Of the aggressive spells, well there is Feedback, but it's rather defense / count of other casters, really - and Storm - both of which comes from the same unit and feels odd to move along with the skytoss. So, I'd be curious if ie. Oracle gets a spell - though some say we've get enough - maybe move feedback to the oracle, or give it a spell, like the sentry bubble, but one that provides movement-/turning speed for a short time of near units. Guess would break voidray & oracle combo in some way. And a thing i always wanted to see… that the oracle should become a detector - and ditch the observer. The raven can be an detector too, but an oracle cant?

Back in the days, it was colossus, but then they got nerfed like crazy. Then it was tempest, which barely do more DPS than a stimed marine. Then tempest damages against buildings got doubled, it's still tickle damage. The reliable AoE DPS is supposed to be the colossus, but it is highly vulnerable and do half the DPS of a siege tank while costing double supply and ressources and having 3 less range plus firing in a weird shape. The BIG problem protoss have, IMO, is the place an ultimately unreliable and unfun for everyone unit take in their power budget : the disruptor. Which resumes in itself the protoss situation : big front loaded alpha strike, very low DPS on very vulnerable units. That and them not having an all purpose anti-air option unlike zerg and terran. It hurt them a lot to have to rely on a 2pop unit with mediocre damage (stalker have less DPS than queens against most targets and barely more against armored) for air defense (plus their static defence being crap).

now serral and dark are in military and we have the most T favoured mappool ever we will see the effect of the years of nerfs, T 87% winrate on dynasty is crazy, that's over a 1-5 winrate lol and there is not even a zerg map to counter pick now, oceanborn, amphion (hardlead 2.0), dynasty and ghost river are unplayable for Z, goldenaura is pretty awful if T turtles, crimson court is one big chokepoint that every T unit can just fly and fight around and Z has to spend 10 mins breaking rocks to stand a chance, alcyone is super easy to defend on for T, post youth may as well just say 'here's a giant buff to 2 base all ins and you never even have to leave your high ground', i just smurf with Z now because there is no point trying to play it properly at all anymore.

I agree, more bm would be fun at times. Feel like this could be stimulated by hosting a tournament where the winner is chosen by a judge after the game based on things like originality and bm, with negative points if they play too much like a tryhard :p
