in a lot of the two kids rooms, most of the members would talk about a trait of that duo and chan would be like 'huh, i never noticed that, why have i never seen it before'. not to say he is inattentive, because he is the most caring person towards his members, but that is the problem. bang chan puts in so much effort and responsibility to make sure everything as a whole works out- members relationships, members mental health, concepts, productions, line distribution. he wants them all to shine, but that takes out a lot of time to really get to interact with the members. and he is a huge workaholic, always feeling pressure to put out something greater, so he works even in the waiting room. they're his besties, but you see that he misses out on the small things. chan knows everything about them becuase he talks to them, but he is rarely part of the member's experiences that he hears from them because he is so busy. for example, minsung, seungIN, hunlix, function through annoying eachother and spending massive time together, eating, inside jokes etc. but any ship chan is in they give HIM support, love, validation and understanding, rather than the little things. han and hyunjin, from his dorm never have anything to say, other than him as a gym junkie and working, but always mention how they are over at the others, with the maknaes or getting coffee and photobooths. when describing other members, the kids would discuss a funny memory, something silly or perceptive they picked up on due to how much time they spend together, but when describing chan they talk about his caring attitude, his work ethic, selflessness. that's great to hear, but when you compare the detailed micro behaviours of the others and chan's father-like behaviour you can't help but feel like there is more to bangchan and wish that he was able to put aside his time to get those memories with the youngers, and bring his inner child out. a lot of the time he is the observer and gets happiness from other's happiness, but he should be the main character too. it's gratifying yet very lonely being in chan's boots.

@@bassbabs6500 you TOTALLY hit the nail on the head. I’ve noticed this dynamic a lot too and it definitely feels bittersweet. In that you know bang chan cares about his members more than anything, and you know that the members have nothing but love and respect for their leader. But I agree - because channie is so busy with things on a macro level as both a leader and producer - he misses out on a lot of the micro level interactions. Such that there does feel like a degree of separation between him and the members; akin to a father with his children. I know he wants to be a pillar of support for his members and STAYs, which is why I love and admire him so much, but I truly hope he’s getting his own needs met too. I can definitely see how things could get lonely from his perspective.

Yeah also something that proves that Chan isn't really with them in the dorm is showed in one episode where they were switching rooms and like that. Maybe it was Changbin.. anyway he asked Chan to switch rooms with him because he doesn't like the bed he got ( it is the least liked bed for the members) so he agreed.. the reason was because Chan isn't in the dorm that often. So my question is... Where is he lol

Bang Chan got into conflicts/fights the most with Changbin, likely coz they work so much together. Han pulls the 3RACHA youngest card, to avoid 3RACH conflicts but Changbin being a very headstrong person and Bang Chan being a very decisive person, probably got into lots of disagreements. That said, they knew how to work it out, their long friendship and working relationship is a testement to that. I actually really like SKZ as individuals. They are very humble guys, who do not let all this craziness of fame into their heads, they seem to still think they are unknown. They keep to themselves, the work on their music and crafts, even their vocalists never stop taking vocal lessons, 4 years into their career. That is just how crazy how humble the boys are. I know that they are in their 20s now but considering my age, I still see them as boys who are talented, humble, prespetive and true to themselves. I hope they will stay the same and became good men in the future.

Changbin has a sturdy wall... he protects others but doesn't let people in. You should see his self written solo song streetlight. Anyway, changbin doesn't do eye contacts and that's why he's so comfortable to talk too bc others won't be awkward since he's not looking and to be fair, changbin's words are already strong enough to hit you. Bangchan relies on changbin a lot and changbin doesn't rely a lot on bangchan or anyone else because he's more of a want to be a reliable type of person instead of the other way around coz he doesn't like being a burden to others. I recommend watching a video called "skz fight history" by sl123

Always love your observations! I didn't realize Chan probably said "except him" and not "you" because of it being too vulnerable. Watching it, i thought it was quite cute because saying it like this, it felt like Chan wasn't just saying it to Changbin, but also in a way declaring it to the 'world'. Like, "this is my person, the one who knows me best and takes care of me" and making sure we know and give Changbin that credit too.
@asterpolaris072 жыл бұрын
That was my thought as well. Because he’s looking at the camera too while saying it, makes it more a statement to Stays watching.

Bang Chan often uses the third person when talking about himself or the person he's talking to. At the end of this episode, when Bang Chan said "....except for him" instead of "except for you" you said it maybe indicated that Chan still feels some distance from Changbin. That may be so, but that was the only time during this video that I noticed Chan referring to Changbin in the third person, which is actually a bit unusual. Chan often refers to himself by name. Instead of saying "I do this", he'll say "Chan does this", and if he's talking to, say, Han, instead of saying "You do this a lot" he'll say "Han does this". This has happened in several of the 2 Kid's rooms, it really stands out. I do think the fact that he almost didn't do it at all in this one, does indicate he's more comfortable with Changbin. I'd like to give a different perspective on Changbin's lack of eye contact. I have a real fellow feeling for him. I can say that for me, eye contact is often distracting rather than helpful, especially if there is emotional content in what I am saying. I have a choice between being in the depth and emotion without eye contact, vs distancing myself from the emotion while making eye contact. I've explored this with therapists and so on, to discover if there is some trauma or some type of cognitive quirk, something that could be re-trained, and come to the conclusion that some of us are just built that way--that it is a basic neural wiring difference. It's like the fact that some people "hear" the numbers if they are counting to themselves, and others "see" the numbers. If you "hear" them, you can read while counting, but not have a conversation, and vice versa. And it's almost impossible to change which way you count. For most people eye contact improves connection, but for a significant minority, eye contact is actually a barrier to connection. For me, if I am actively figuring something out when I talk about it, such as responding during a conversation, then I need to be looking inside myself, it is as if I am seeing the parts of what I say as I put it together. When I am listening, I'll be looking into space with an unfocused gaze, processing actively, really feeling and "seeing" what I've heard, connecting it in meaningful ways, so visual input is a big distraction. If I am making eye contact, that visual input really distracts me from the meaning of what is being said, so eye contact means that I am actually less connected to the conversation, rather than more. I also get much more meaningful information from people's tone of voice and body language and a lot of other non-visual information, than I do from eye contact. With eye contact, I mainly just get information about the color of their eyes. From watching Changbin, I believe he has a very similar type of hardwiring. I believe that there is a significant minority of people who function this way. Most people find that eye contact enhances communication, but for some of us, it inhibits it. And this can be a real source of confusion in communication. It has taken me a very long time, but I've learned that when communicating for work, or in non-personal situations, most people will respond better if I do make eye contact. So to survive in the world, I've had to learn to do so. I don't like it. It feels shallow to me, and I don't retain or process information as well when I make eye contact. So in personal situations with people who know me and are comfortable with me, I don't usually do it, because that gives us better communication results. I can't help feeling that Changbin's depth is for him partly connected to his lack of eye contact. I think that part of why he has more eye contact with Chan is not just that he is more comfortable with him, but also that since they spend a lot of time together at work, he has already worked out a lot of what he wants to say to Chan and how he wants to say it. (Chan, Changbin and Han are Stray Kids' main production unit, 3Racha, and they spend a lot of time together in the studio and writing/composing etc.). So he can more easily spare the brain space for eye contact with Chan, since he is not having to actively process what he is saying as he says it.
@maxpbeaumont2 жыл бұрын
Great comment. It sounds like you have some more insight into this than myself, but I totally agree; some people just process things differently (and as a result look differently when doing so), and that probably comes down to neural hardwiring. Anyway, I appreciate the insight!

I think there is a older-younger generation thing in Korea that we Westerners can't really understand. Younger ones have a harder time talking about their feelings to the older generation -especially if that person is in leader position. They are like that to Lee Know as well, because he is older and the dance leader in the team. Maybe for us it is something like talking about your feelings with your boss or sth. To give you a bit of background, in the beginning of their journey Chan really 'struggled' to assume the leader role and so he was a little harsh on them (he said it himself on several occasions). He probably had to, as you can see these kids are all over the place when left to their own tools :) Also he was always working so the others could spend more time together. No joke, this guy really only works if he is not sleeping. I feel like that created some sort of gap and by the time he started relaxing the others were just a bit distant to him. Now they all understand where he is coming from and they ALL are doing their best to close that gap quickly and to me it seems like they have achieved it. These are my observations, any Stay can correct me if I'm wrong.

About the eye contact and the way Bang Chan says “he” instead of “you”: in my opinion, because they are in front of a camera and essentially, not only talking between themselves but also making content for the fans, there will be moments when they’ll even subconsciously address the camera/fans instead of the person they’re speaking to. Which I think is a habit every duo or team of content creators or celebrity/idol integrates into their communication style on camera. In the way Bang Chan pointed to Changbin and looked straight at the camera/us, I felt like the recipient of that message in that moment, like as if Chan was flaunting Changbin to me, saying “Look at my best friend who understands me best.” That’s how I interpreted it at least 😅

Because the two of them are so close, it can be hard to get into a super vulnerable space. For one, I think the setting/environment was not suitable for them really getting deep into their feelings. I would assume that they are able to say those things to each other in a different context (like if they're up late at night or crashing in Chan's room) but as you noted Bin doesn't like being super vulnerable about himself. The joking stops the two of them from really reaching that level in front of the camera. Like a feeling of "this is not the time nor place". Additionally, sometimes when you have to be in that close of a working relationship, it can be awkward to have that much gushy emotional conversation. I would liken it to when Han complains that Bin never gives him hugs. They are close in a way where that is not necessarily a normal part of their relationship and it would be uncomfortable to start crossing those lines. Like Seungmin and Jinnie observed, Bin doesn't want to rely on Channie as much which is arguably part of the wall that gets put up with the verbal affection. I think Channie is very perceptive of that as well. He also shuts down to the way that Binnie likes to talk about people haha so that also contributes to the dynamic. So they would rather give it indirectly ("except him") instead of directly (if he said "except Changbin" with direct eye contact). It's a bit too much emotion to hold within their relationship.
@maxpbeaumont2 жыл бұрын
I agree with that. I think that could be the case. They’re so close that it’s hard to go to that “vulnerable” place + their relationship means more/is deeper than what needs to be seen on camera.

Ah, one of my favorites in the series so far! Changbin and Chan (as well as Han) have such an interesting dynamic, and it's interesting to see since its the kind of friendship you only see after spending a long time together. 3racha as a whole have existed since before stray kids, so in my opinion I think they're all closest to eachother in the group. As for what you said about the barrier between Changbin and Chan, I don't actually think it's a big issue for them? Chan even said in the video that the only person who really gets him is Changbin, so it's likely that they just don't worry about things that might bother them if someone else did it. If you'd like to see more of 3racha in a more casual setting I recommend their Vlive! There's 2, but the more recent one has a pretty good edit called "3 men in colorful pants"! It's hilarious and I think you'd like to look into it for more of their dynamics with each other!

Although Chan is a naturally more open person, I think he and Changbin are, as the boys said, a couple, but that kind of couple that shows more feelings for actions So they are always together, they go to the gym together, they cook together, they create music together (and even disagree sometimes, obviously), they take care of each other, but usually they don't talk openly about feelings, it's all shown by their affection in their actions. And I find this VERY interesting, I really like everything about their relationship, them as 3Racha together with Han and how they have this connection

Bangchan is an amazing guy and even he's older and he's taken care of them for so long, it's always wonderful to see how open and caring he is. He really knows how to deal with each of the boys, and anyone who is a fan knows that Changbin... ah changbin doesn't see any problem in giving Bangchan a hard time, if it was someone else maybe he wouldn't have that freedom but it's amazing how he felt free to be a brat with Chan, and even more beautiful to see how Chan loves him. I agree with what you said about Chan. He has worked hard since he was young, and for him it is extremely important that everyone is well. It is very important for him that everyone is comfortable and happy. At the last show, Chan's speech made this very clear: it's a burden he carries, the responsibility to care for, protect and love everyone. When i saw the ep, I was touched and very grateful that Changbin said this and thanked Chan for his care and protection, usually people who care so much about others are not valued, they don't want anything in return, just knowing that the other is ok and that he's doing a good job is enough.

Ahh I love this comment! I think the members are still a bit hesitant as to how far they can go while communicating with Chan because of that hierarchy thing in their culture; but I feel like all are working hard to open up more, they now know that Chan went through a lot by himself and they want to protect him as much as he wants to protect them. So every time I see one of the kids express gratitude towards Chan I feel simply happy.

The eye contact thing is interesting to me because I know for many people it's a sign of attention but for me, I can't look at someone and speak at the same time because I can't split the focus, I'm either looking at someone to pay sincere attention to what they're saying/doing or I am thinking hard about how to speak to them, I feel Changbin is similar in that. He weighs his words and focusses on them, and he makes more eye contact when playing or engaging in a joke or drawing someone out. I think perhaps it depends on whether the purpose of your conversation is to engage or to inform. If Changbin is trying to actively engage he seems more touchy, eye contact etc., when he is trying to inform someone of his thoughts/feelings he is still and entirely focused on his words. And I think he can find it a bit intense too, like when he started joking that Felix was trying to charm him when Felix was making eye contact and being sincere and he got a bit flustered and needed to break away for a moment. Changbin has a lot of love to give, but the minute affection is returned full force to him he almost doesn't know how to handle that. It's very sweet. He and Bang Chan are both people who very much focus on how they can support others so I think giving affection is far easier for them sometimes.

About Changbin not keeping eye contact, it could be a cultural thing. I know in Japan, it's polite to look at someone to show you're listening, but keeping eye contact while you're talking can seem intimidating. Korea and Japan don't have the same culture, but they have similarities. Bang Chan grew up in Australia, which probably has a similar culture to other western countries that value eye contact throughout the conversation.

Yes you're right, I think Bang Chan wants to make sure the kids know that he likes them and that he wants validation also that they like him back too. I think that's because Bang Chan, as a leader, used to be super intense and strict with the others and the members used to find him super scary especially when he was in a black mood... But Bang Chan has said that he then saw how other leaders and hyungs in other groups acted less strict an intense and that he decided to do the same and lighten up a bit...

Your comment about Changbin choosing to not make direct eye contact when saying something "deep" or otherwise filled with strong emotion is, IMO, spot on. Changbin's gaze is naturally intense. That, coupled with his voice and speech patterns can cause some people to interpret him as intimidating, I've joked before that God made Changbin the height he is, because if he were 6'+, literally no one would approach him. Changbin is incredibly self-aware for someone so young. I think he recognises all this about himself, and that is why he chooses to not make direct eye contact as often as most people.

I feel that barrier still present it's because they think of each other as family, so they usually cringe at emotional moments and sometimes eye contact feels like "too much"... The thing with changbin and bangchan they are from the older line, both have work together since long time that i feel like they either always on work mode tgt so they are always being serious for work or being too fun with each other. I remember the 1st time you react to stray kids and you're confuse about Hyunjin. I think this episode can help..hehe

I hope he would get to know hyunjin more too, that guy is a puzzle

You pointed out the eye contact between the two. I think Changbin avoided it sometimes, especially when he complimented Chan,because maybe Chan could get overwhelmed and cry, because he is so touched by his words. I think Changbin is really important for Chans mental health. A rock to rely on 🫶🏻.

Bangchan was alone a long time before straykids he watched friends either join groups or drop out of training so straykids mean a lot to him for Also that he isn't alone anymore but Also they get along too and I think it surprised Bangchan how much the other 7 would care :)

Something that would yield a very interesting analysis is seeing the 3 episodes of Kids Room with Changbin and Hyunjin. But in a different order: first 1, then 3 (most recent) and 2. Because in the first one you would see their dynamics at the beginning. In the third you would see how they are currently. And finally the second, because in the most recent one they commented that they had fought just before recording that episode. It's interesting to have seen the other two before to see the change in behavior. But it could be 3, 2 and 1, it works too. Anyway, just wanted to leave a suggestion :) I love your videos!

actually realised this thing about myself if i have thoughtful and open conversation with a person i tend to look at them only when they speak but when i speak i prefer look somewhere else i know it’s important to people to know that you’re fully there when they talking about something deep and personal but when i talk i feel like it can be a little bit too instance if i will also look at them

Max, i KNOW we've been asking you a lot of stray kids but PLEASE you need to check out Bangchan's speech on the last day of the maniac world tour in Seul. You'll see a side of him that you haven't seen before.

3racha minus Han so 2racha! Changbin and Bangchan both lead and take care of the group but in different ways. I would say Bangchan takes on a more fatherly role in the group, whereas Changbin has more of an older brother role in the group in that he sees and hears a lot more from the members than Bangchan You will often notice in these 2kr that Changbin notices a lot of the dynamics between the members and can speak about them a lot, whereas Bangchan will often go “really? I didn’t know that” haha. Bangchan is unfortunately always very busy. :( Thanks for the reaction! ❤️ Hope you continue with 2kr!

adding to the part 12:10, i bet nowadays Lee Know is one of the members who can understand Bang Chan properly right now, along with Changbin. There are multiple times that Bang Chan names Lee Know as the one he would love to be the duo besties, like Bang Chan can somehow rely on Lee Know now.
@angeltwin162 жыл бұрын
The only one Changbin gave eye contact to was Felix. At the same time Felix kind of thrives on that. Even in their 2kids room ep, when Changbin finally started to look Felix in the eye he was at a lost of words like how cute.

Love your videos and thanks for checking out this 2kids room! Bang Chan X Changbin interactions are something I look out for! We often see them playing around and joking when they are together (on camera) but I've noticed the respect and affection for one another, when they talk about each other to the other members. Also can I just say your skin looks flawless, you look like you're glowing! Not sure if you're wearing foundation? If you did a skin care routine video I would watch it, just saying! 😂

Theory about the eye contact, I wonder if it’s about focus. If Chan looks in the others eyes, it could distract him from what he’s trying to say 🤔

When i dont look people in the eye, most of the time im talking from a logical point even if my words are emotional. It just means that these are processed thoughts that i am just now able to share. On the other hand, i make eye contact to validate the person im talking to or myself by seeing the other person's reaction.. that is when im talking from an emotional point, maybe changbin is the same 😉
@JAMoore-zz3ki Жыл бұрын
And a second comment..... You mention Bang Chan's tendency to laugh a lot when he's talking to the other members. If you watch any of the Chan's Room videos, you will see that Bang Chan laughs a lot not only because he's a friendly and fun guy, but because that is his coping mechanism when he's uncomfortable, shy or embarrassed. When he's in a situation where he just can't deal with what he's seeing (such as watching his own performances or watching himself lifting his shirt in concert to show his abs), he hides behind pillows or laughs and covers his face a LOT to cover up how he's feeling. Another point......you mentioned before about having lived in Korea yourself for a while, and you know how affectionate men can be there, and it's totally normal. From everything I've read, they are much more comfortable with their personal space / bodies / showing affection, etc. Which I think is great. But also keep in mind that in the idol world, there's a thing called "skinship," which is hugging, cuddling, kissing, holding hands, sleeping in the same bed, etc. It can be a fan-service thing, where they are actively encouraged by their management companies to be more physically intimate in order to perpetuate fan fantasies. That's bizarre to me and a little disturbing. But in many cases, the idols act that way spontaneously and naturally. It's genuine and not meant to be suggestive or sexual. It's just the way the idols are comfortable showing affection for each other, or how they comfort each other when they feel emotional about something. I think this happens a lot because the management companies completely isolate the idols from their families (in the early years especially, but thankfully as time goes on they get to see their families more often) and real-life (not idol) friends, and from everything they knew before. So those original sources of friendship, affection and comfort are not available to them. (Look up the term "idol skinship" and you'll have a better understanding.)

The members show their affection for Chan by teasing teasing and teasing him non-stop lol but like you said Chan is a guy who needs to hear or at least see a gesture that shows him that he's loved and he's doing good? Kinda? This is of course just my opinion. They do say these stuff when they write something for him or they're asked to say deep things to each other for an event though.

2:20 Hi. Changbin-obsessed person here 👋👋. I've actually noticed that he tends to look elsewhere when he's trying his best to find the right words. You know how some people do certain things or pull certain faces in order to focus better? I think looking to the side is Binnie's way of doing that.

its super important for changbin that people are comfortable and open to him, but his stare can be a bit intimidating on a resting face, in my opinion. I feel like changbin avoid eye contact for the other person's comfort. At this point it must be a habit rather than a conscious prevention.

Bang chan said at.the end of the series, Stay Kids Survival. kzbin.info/aero/PLhfxjzTdj_6YVFR_GuoOcdyntUo_AlBY That after 7 years of being a trainee and having to say good bye to those that didn't make it each time he almost debuted, he kept a distance explaining why he was a little stand offish in the beginning of the show. Now that they were officially Stray Kids he hoped to open up to them more.
