Best detailed review site i've ever seen. Just picked up a used like new grx 40 dirt cheap and am very impressed by this little guitar. It sounds really good and appears to be well made overall. This one only has a small paper serial number sticker on the back of the headstock which reads #Z723522. Was hoping to find out when it was made but those numbers appear to be sequenced totally different from the guitar reviewed in the video, guess i will never know the date. Great video as always!

Thanks a lot for the review and pointing out the shielding issue. I had the same problem with my GRX40, shielding was not connected to the common ground and had a horrible high frequency noise on the single coils when not touching the strings. Rudimentarily connecting the flaky paint with aluminium foil to the grounded pick guard screw as a quick test lowered the high frequency noise of the single coils from 75 dB (!) to 59 dB on my Orange Crush 20RT fully cranked up on the clean channel all EQ at 12 o'clock, not touching the strings. When touching the strings, the noise is 55 dB with the settings above. (Measured w. an uncalibrated Voltcraft SL-200) I'm curious how much lower the noise gets once I properly redo the shielding with copper tape.

It's all been said, but the format of your review is golden! Love your penalty points system. I thought you were going to add a penalty point for the screw in tremolo arm as I had one of those on my Yamaha RGZ321P and it wears out. What guitar with tremolo would you suggest for a beginner that does maintain its tuning?
@MaxSoloMusic2 жыл бұрын
I'd normally recommend a guitar with a fixed bridge to beginners as any tremolo may cause a lot frustration when one doesn't know how to set and use it. However, if it has to be a guitar with a tremolo, Wilkinson WVS 50 can be found on many budget guitars. It can be set as floating as well as one-way and stays in tune pretty well

Eliminate friction. Nut slots must be wide enough and lubricated. String trees should be holding strings at the desired angle but not pressing on them more than needed and lubricated too. At the bridge, front screws need to be high enough so the base plate can move. Finally, and obviously, strings must be stretched including wraps around the pegs.
@MrLennonson3 жыл бұрын
@@Leo_ofRedKeep Thanks for the reply, may I know what front screw are you referring to?
@Leo_ofRedKeep3 жыл бұрын
@@MrLennonson The 6 screws directly in front of the bridge. They bild the stopping surface on which the plate pivots. If they are screwed tight, they restrict the movement. Lubricating the 6 contact points with the plate is also a possible improvement.

Very nice review, I really liked the pointing system. As you asked, I came to your channel by searching for GRX40 review. I'm looking for a replacement for my old Condor RX 30 (brazillian made-in-china brand) and this looks like to be a good guitar for the price (here in Brazil, around 300 euros with current currency conversion - 1 eur = 5.40 bra) - I only play for fun and relax at home, no bands or fency recordings - so as the 15 year old Condor, this should be enough for when I have the itchy to play some riffs. I will probably get the green one :)

In the meantime I have tried 3 of these. 2 of them had massive problems with electromagnetic interference , even the humbuckers had hum trouble (If the strings are touched the hum gets quiter, but it doesn't eliminate it to an acceptable state). Obviously these GRX40s aren´t shielded very good. How is the hum with your model both with strings touched and also untouched?
@buckrogers54293 жыл бұрын
OK, I can answer my question all by myself, you have delivered the proof for the hum troubles I have experienced. I should have watched the video until the end before asking :))). The inner conductive shielding paint is not connected to the common ground. How stupid is that? I assume thats on all new GRX40 models.
@MaxSoloMusic3 жыл бұрын
It's hard to tell 100% that the shielding is not connected on all guitars without checking 2-3 more of them. Might be pretty random. The guitars you've tested might have had something else going on. Sometimes a location can cause some weird effects. Like in my studio all alnico humbuckers have a very high level of hum
