I came here knowing what each port did but couldn’t think of any 5.1 surround sound that has 3 audio jacks. So basically this is so you can make your own 5.1 by using two sets of normal computer speakers and a center/sub speaker. I get it now. Thanks for dancing with the speakers. That actually cleared it up as to WHY there are separate jacks for each part of the surround setup.

Connector restasking allows me to use line in for my front speakers. For some reason my line out was only playing mono sound and nothing I did could change it (re-installed drivers, checked and uncheck mono sound in windows settings but nothing worked). Then I connected it to my line in port and Realtek sent me a prompt asking if I was using front speaker out and made some changes and now my speakers sound amazing again. Something that should have been mentioned but wasn't, ist that there's a difference between "pure" line-out and headphones: The latter is amplified, the former isn't. So you can usually use headphone out as amplifier, but not the other way around. Most PCs however just have amplified ports.

You need to make another video that describes how to use both a digital and analog system together ..I have an MSI mother board that has 7.1 analog , 3.5 audio jacks and an additional SPDIF open connection. The digital SPDIF will not operate if the analog audio output is set as the default out put and vice versa. I need to know how to make the audio of both devices work in sync. I purchased an analog 5.1 system . Thought by adding a digital sound bar to the SPDIF PCI connections Id be able to utilize the 7.1 sound capability of the board. Using the suggested "activate the sound record playback for the digital sound bar only causes a sever sync distortion in the sound!"

Hi, i needed this:) I have a 3.1 speaker set that plugs in the green 3.5mm pc jack(line out you say). I just bought a very expensive Gen 5 motherboard that has great onboard sound. On the rear IO, I absolutely do not see a port for side speakers but i do have the rear/black port and the center/sub port - along with the standard RGB. Mine happens to actually be Red! :) In the past, i've had up to 5 speakers that all plugged into the one single green line out. Today i desperatly need midrange to hopefully hear dialog in movies for a change. The 5.1 center speakers never worked. If i bought a good center channel speaker, I can use the c/sub port to connect it, right? It will play sound - in conjunction with the line out speakers? Sound would come out through both? That would be amazing. Thank you!

I am in the market for a new 7.2-channel home cinema receiver. In my previous setup, I had only the green jack connected via a 3.5mmRCA composite cable. Is there a way to get proper 5.1 or 7.1 channel audio from the computer to the receiver? The receiver I am looking at also has digital coaxial, TOSLINK, and HDMI ports. It seems like something is missing. If I go with HDMI, can I use HDMI for sound alone? I am already using DisplayPort for the video end.

Computer audio hook up issue. I have the green line out (headphone jack) connected to analog mixer inputs 7 and 8. I have only VGA video monitor outputs on video card. Adding HDMI video adaptor cable to VGA jack does not work until the USB audio/power connection is hooked up also. When the USB is hooked into the video adapter cable, the line out / headphone jack goes dead. Can I use both line out / headphone jack and USB audio at the same time? Or is it one or the other.
