The one way trip over the bridge for a normal car is $73 (increased since the video was made) but for frequent commuters who buy a pass it is $26. The train costs around €12.

Two more tunnels are in early planing. The first one looks like it will be built fore sure. Its basically a extention of the copenhagen subway to go directly to malmö to ofload a bit from the commuter trains. The subway will be its on line and will ne integrated in the copenhagen one only by changing trains. This is because the top speed need to be much faster than the current system due to the fairly long distance. The second tunnel that is in very early planing stages is expected to be built between helsingborg and helsingör for full size trains. There is a few issues yet to be ironed out. The tunnel supose to handle both high speed trains and freigight trains. The is multiple issues. One is that the high speed is going north and the freight is going south-east. A other issue is that high speed rail can easially handle the inclination down under thr ocean, but the freight trains cant. One sugestion that have been on the table is to have a single freight track ramp down from the south and meet up with the high speed line at depth. This turned out to be to expensive, hence the plans been shelved for now. But the track is needed.

It seems like they did not mention that the weeks before the Öresund Bridge was officially opened they arranged a half-marathon race from Copenhagen to Malmö. I had never ran a race before, but I felt I just could not miss this opportunity. Some 80,000 people finished the race; the winner finished the race at almost exactly 60 minutes. I managed to finish the race at just under 3½ hours - I was a bit proud of myself. ;)

Earlier in the summer of 2000, before the bridge officially opened for traffic, you could walk on it. I remember doing that with my family. We walked to the first pillars from what I can remember. By then I was so tired that my dad had to carry me back in his shoulders 😅 I was four years old.

Trivia note: The U.S. game show The Amazing Race has been on for 36 Seasons, they have been to Sweden for 5 of them (6, 15, 17, 25, & 35), & yet they have been to Denmark for just 2 of them (19 & 25, which aired back in 2014).

9 years is very, very quick for such a project. I’ve ridden the train a few times and it is an experience… Even better than the Chunnel.

In Denmark we have built huge bridges and tunnels for years, as we are now building a new, underwater tunnel to Germany, for 18 km. Also for cars and trains to operate for themselves, like the first part of Øresunds Broen, below the water and ending on the island. Finn

Close by is a "natural island", also being intended for a new airport at a time: Saltholm. So when making a new island, the name "Peberholm" came up as rather natural. It has ben left mostly untouched to see how nature evolves by itself. By that I was one of thousands walking across, the day before the Official Opening of the Bridge, for charity. Finn. Denmark

You should take a look at the Femern tunnel which is another mega project, that is currently being built between Denmark and Germany 🙂

I knew you like it. To go by train from Malmö to Copenhagen airport or city and back (a 24 hour ticket) cost about 30 US dollars.

I live near the Öresund Bridge I often walk under the bridge, at the bridge foundation and often manage to time it with a train coming. That sounds terrible.

The way to go is by train. As Henrik_Holst said, it is a reasonable €11 or so. For people in Malmö region or indeed a large part of southern Sweden, going by train to Copenhagen Airport is the prefered way of travelling to or from most world cities (including Bangkok).

Oh yeh for sure. I live in Småland and train is much cheaper and just way better. Also the airport is closer than Stockholm airport. So if we travel we always take the train over the bridge.

Building a bridge in the 30s wasnt a good idea beacause Europe was on the edge of war. And then in 1939 WW2 started...

Actually we in Denmark had opened a new 3,2km bridge in 1937, as some others, not quite as long. This bridge gave the first Parachute attack by German troops, to assure control of it.

🤮Why the Danish spelling alone? It is spelled with the letter "Ö" in Swedish. Danes and Norwegians have the Ø. They are pronounced the same and are essentially the same letter, but still :D The bridge is a monument to the now-friendly relations between Denmark and Sweden - absolutely unthinkable friendship if you were to go back 200 years ago.

For a foreigner, an o with a / straight through (ø=Denmark & Norway) or an o with two dots over it (ö = Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Azerbaijan, Estonia and Turkey) is just as difficult to pronounce, as it is only found in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. 👲
