I was a Plus user for years. I swore by the Plus phones. But when I upgraded to the Face ID phones, I got the smaller ones. I don’t regret it. Currently I have the smaller 13 Pro and I love it. It’s so pocketable and great to type on with one hand. I have an iPad if I absolutely need a larger screen. Today we are surrounded by screens, and we don’t always need to have the biggest one we can buy.

with there being so many great USB battery (some even with Magsafe) options available these days at prices less than the cost difference between a 14 Pro vs 14 Pro Max, I don't understand why someone would pick a larger phone because it has better battery life. If you want the Max for the bigger screen, sure. But for battery, even a small external battery is gonna get you SO much more battery life than the difference between 14 Pro vs 14 Pro Max.

I had a 12 pro max and have just bought the 14 pro standard size, and I absolutely love it and will never move back to the larger phone. These issues that have been raised in the video are probably true but in reality who cares! The always on display for me is a waste of time and I just turned it off, so any battery issues have just been saved because I’m not wasting the battery with that pointless feature.

Pro tip that I'm surprised more reviewers don't talk about. Turn your phone to dark mode. Turns the OS mostly black instead of mostly white. OLED screen means those pixels aren't using any power. Boom overcompensation for the always on display. My 14 pro max lasts 2 days with average usage and I literally have to try my best to kill it in one day with extreme usage and pretty high brightness.

Between 14pro and 14pro max, I had the same trouble as you on which one to choose. 2-3 days after purchasing 14pro max, I felt my wrists getting stressed and uncomfortable. Therefore! I bought 14 pro yesterday and thought, "It's what I want. It's a little lighter than Pro Max, and the size fits in one hand. Perfect!" However..! I felt the speed of using the battery different enough to feel it. It feels like the percentage doesn't change very much with Max, but feels like the pro's battery lose fast like water flowing from a cup . Also, even though the Dynamic Island sizes are the same, the two display sizes are different. My eyes couldn't focus on the video with the 14Pro. The dynamic island is proportionately too large for the size of the display, but with Pro Max I felt the ration of display and dynamic island was very nice. thank you for this objective video. It helped me clearly choose which one to use. I will probably return the 14pro today. 😃

I came from the 12 pro Max to the 14 pro. The battery comparing the 2 models are kind of the same, just a little bit better for the 14 pro. Although it will not last from 6AM-9PM if I have to charge it around 6PM that would be fine for me. If you are someone who is constantly traveling or out of your house all day you might find a little bit annoying having to often charge but you can get a portable charge as well. For me it is not that big deal and I’m happy with the smaller size.

I’ve chosen the 14 Pro over the Max and was worried about battery life which turned out to be very good for my use scenario. I’m getting consistent 6 up to 7 hours SOT. The Max is too much of a brick which is a huge compromise to carry around with every day.

I had 13pro earlier but chose 14promax for the following reasons: 1. Doing Pro level photography and videography is much easier plus post processing on a bigger screen 2. Reading on a big screen is much more relaxing for the eyes. Watching videos too like you said 3. Don’t know why but the volume on every type of headphone (wired or bluetooth) is louder , esp those which sound low like Beoplay EQ or those with higher impedance (i know most ppl dont use them but when you do, the max helps a lot) 4. Battery life!

14 Pro Max because I'm 81 and my eyes want to shoot and edit on a bigger screen. Utility photographer and occasional videographer shooting in school classrooms, also stage events, meetings, interviews, music rehearsals, scenics, etc.. Would LOVE the smaller phone for "handiness" while shooting, but the advantages of the Pro Max are very real for me.

I switched from 12 Pro Max to 14 Pro this May, for the past 3 months I notice that the battery life is much worse than I'd expected, it's not unusable but for me it's very frustrating for a device this expensive. And the Internet connection is bad as well, the wifi becomes weaker from not a very far distance and the cellular is not good either. The camera burst rate is even worse than my 12 Pro Max, after like 20-30 Live Photos it starts to slow down and needs to be cool down. I finally decide to sell my 14 Pro and go with the larger 14 PM. The 14 PM is really bulky and heavy but for the extra battery life, screen size and heat decipation I have no other choice.

Main takeaway is that Smaller = slightly worse thermals / dimming, slightly worse cellular speeds, slightly worse speaker, hole punch digs into content slightly more, and worse battery life None of these seem like huge dealbreakers except maybe the battery life to some people. I switched from a 12 pro max to the 14 pro. Mainly because I wanted to try the normal sized phone after having the big boy. I had also got a 13 mini as a second phone and loved the feel of it, but it was just a little too small to be my main. After using the 14 pro for the past couple weeks I’ve enjoyed the smaller size. I haven’t gone too deep into seeing what kind of battery life I can get out of it, but it’s honestly not that big of a drawback because most of the time I’m close to my charger anyway. I did get my phone before I went on vacation with the family and turning the AOD off and putting my phone on low power mode gave me multiple 12 hour days between charging only draining about a third of the battery. Granted I only had anywhere from 3 to 4 hours of screen time but I was more focused on the family time. Overall I definitely prefer the pro over the max since they’re essentially the same just different sizes. I would say that the feel of the pro is worth the sacrifice of a few more hours of battery and a smaller screen for watching videos. I don’t mobile game so that doesn’t really matter to me.

I just got my iPhone 14 Pro Max 2 days ago and so far, it's a MASSIVE upgrade from my iPhone 8. The thing that I'm struggling with the most right now is that it's so big (first world problems). I'm not used to having a phone of this size and also, the weight is significantly more than my previous device. It's had a few glitches (camera's inability to focus, my phone freezing and turning off and needing a hard restart) but overall, I like how smooth it is. It's going to take some getting used to but so far, the battery life has actually been really good to me! I'm still going to test it out for about a week and then make a decision about maybe downgrading to the iPhone 14 Pro just because the size will likely feel better. We'll see how it goes but I certainly appreciate seeing this 2 week later review/comparison!

2nd day with promax 14. I charged overnight monday 10/3/22. tuesday 10/4/22 8am 100% bat lasted until 3pm wednesday 10/5/22. On tuesday it used 70% so i had 30% when I went to sleep tues night 10:15pm. it only lost 3% overnight. wed 10/4 8:am with 27% lasted to 3pm when phone died. about 32hours id say about 7 hours screen on time day one and another 4 1/2on day two. The rest was idle and playing music in the car and phone calls. I did use it. I was on the phone adding apps. learning how to use it. watching videos etc. did not plug in until it was completely dead. Also "always on display" on. using an all black wallpaper for home and lock screen. All those complaints about it being too bright I did not find that with autobrightness. From absolutely dead to boot up took 1 min and it had 1%. I checked the charging speed and times. It starts off fast but then really slows down. i got to from 1% to 28% in 15mins, 55% in 30mins, 74% in 45mins, 80% in 55mins, 83% in 60mins, 91% in 75mins, 93% in 80mins, 95% in 90mins, 97% in 100mins, 98% in 110mins and 100% in 120mins. peak charge speed drops off after 80% 55mins. So if you are topping up , after 80% just go. waiting around for the last %s will take ages. i hope my nerdy/ocd testing helps.

5G mid-band speeds may be reduced for the iPhone 14 Pro either because of a lower maximum power amplifier output which would help battery life at the expense of throughput or it may be due to the antenna diversity that can be achieved because of the smaller form factor. Other reasons are possible too. At least Apple did not limit the throughout for the Max version so both 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max versions have the same throughout.

@@just_a_jokebro3465 In many areas 5G is going to be slow due to the use of Dynamic Spectrum Sharing which allows 5G and LTE to share spectrum except LTE traffic must be prioritized by the cell site because it is completely unaware and undesigned to do this. This results in 5G at best being on par with LTE where DSS is employed without sufficient spectrum for 5G. In metro areas where dedicated mid-band or high band spectrum can do heavy lifting this is less of a problem. Also, Verizon is using its only 850MHz spectrum from 3G CDMA for 5G but AT&T is a bit of a mixed back. With 3G more or less completely dead on Verizon and going that way for AT&T it wont bee like this for to long but still.

Also in the real world: you plug it in your car for CarPlay and it charges. On a desk you can top up… I have yet to find a use scenario where I can’t charge at times throughout the day extending my battery life. It seems kind of unrealistic and spoiled to expect a phone (smaller size) to be 100% on 12+ hours a day and not have any moment to top it up or charge it. I appreciate these tests and reviews but I hope people aren’t buying battery life they don’t need because realistically, not all of us are shooting video, editing, gaming, and streaming all in one sitting.

Yeah but the thing is; every time you plug in your phone to charge you are depleting the batteries overall life. If you’re constantly charging it the battery life will eventually drain and drain after time. That’s kind of the whole point of a bigger battery, prevents you from overcharging the battery daily. So I wouldn’t say people are buying battery they don’t need. Less you have to charge, the longer the battery life will last.

Great review, but just wanted to comment on the speed test. That is a flaw in comparison only due to the fact that although you are “pinging” off the same destination server, there may be different paths which the device may take to get there based on traffic load, and hence may take different hops. Other than that, great review.

Very nice video with good info. Nothing is better than the feel that your phone is ready for use without any compromise and no second thought of battery draining on usage. That mental comfort is huge and 6.1" is no where a smaller phone. The updates now a days are seeking more battery life and my thought of buying an iPhone is for a minimum span of 3 years. To satisfy this scenario, pro max is the way to go and 256GB is preferable.

I came from an 11 Pro Max to a 14 Pro and I really like the smaller size. It’s very comfortable and it doesn’t feel that much tinier. The battery has gotten better since I first got it at 5-6 hours SOT by 30% at the end of the day.

I'm staying with my 13 Pro. For my usage the battery is great, and I am quite satisfied with the camera performance. I'm not a power user or a gamer so there's that, and I don't mind the "static peninsula" as opposed to the 'dynamic island'. I don't like esim, but I'm betting within 2 years, they'll all go to it. I went with the larger phone, upgrading from an iPhone 8, the main reason I chose it is long term battery health, I only upgrade my phone once every 5 years at a minimum, so I want it to last as long as possible, and at the point the battery starts decaying, the price to replace it is more than the phone is worth. my current battery life is about 4 hours of low use, with about an hour if im navigating or something. Battery health is 69% (nice) and its all but cooked, however replaing said battery is just not worth the cost on the old device. in theory the larger battery from said larger phone means that when the health starts to decrease, the phone will still be useable without having to leave the house with.a power bank, and carrying both a phone and a power bank in my pocket is already more bulk than the iPhone 14 pro max will ever be. having big hands helps a bit, but im perfectly okay with a 2 handed phone, which is pretty much what that is.

I had the 13 Pro last year gone for the 14 Pro Max this year. The 13 Pro is a great size for reachability and fit in pocket and hand. But the battery life of the 13 Pro does degrade very quickly

You are a massively heavy user and use games. I agree with the battery life though. I very rarely finish the day with less than 50% on the 13 pro Max. On this phone it gets under 50% sometimes by the end of the day. I don't play games though and I think games are a very heavy drain. Everything you have found from heat to reception to battery life to speakers is due to the difference in size. So fair call and to be honest I meant to order the Max and accidentally got the Pro 14 instead. I haven't had any complaints so far. I'm an older user and use this for work to hotspot to computers, text, calls, bluetooth and internet, just general use. I think if you don't play a lot of games then the battery life with the 14 Pro will be fine. Battery life though is an important factor which is why I always got the Max size but battery life has increased so much that i just don't need a Max size phone anymore and the more compact form factor is nice to use.

Exactly. I was in same situation as Max here - I really wanted like the Pro. With it´s compact size (currently having 11 Pro max). I could live with most disadvantages - sound, 5G reception (in my region is not expected anytime soon). But based on reviews, the Pro would be serious jump down regarding battery life compared to 11 PM. So far every new Iphone i owned, had at least bit more battery life than previous one. This time it´s probably impossible task - for the first time. But I´m not willing to downgrade that much. So it will be either nothing or Pro max. So pity - if there was in lineup something at level 11 Pro max just smaller ...

Dont normally check messages in KZbin. I have been using big screen phones for quite a few years. It is hard to go back to a smaller screen particularly smaller fonts. But I have to say that 14 promax is a little bit heavy and pro would be a better choice.

I got the pro max for battery life and I just like bigger phones in general however I found that the battery is way better than I would ever need and if I wasn’t so obsessed with watching videos all day at work I would’ve gotten the regular pro. I get about 10 hours of SOT and regularly have more than 20% at night. If you don’t need a 2 day phone, then this battery is definitely overkill. I do keep my phones for 4 years usually so I think eventually it’ll be about as good as the regular pro about the time I’m a about to upgrade but we’ll see!

The island doesnt cut into the image as long as the content you watch is in the 16:9 aspect ratio, which most content is. At least thats how it works for me on the pro max.

My 13 Pro Max was my first big phone ever, and I don't think I'm going back. One-handed typing sucks, but in every other way I don't find it unwieldy at all. All the pros of the bigger device completely outweigh that one con for me.

I prefer max esp if I’m traveling. I don’t have to carry both my iPhone and iPad now. Rather carry 1 device instead of carrying a phone + battery pack. I’m coming from having both 13 mini & 13 pro. My hand positioning is practically the same using the pro max vs the pro so I decide to go with the larger screen and battery esp since I can accomplish a lot on my work on my phone. I decided that the pro max could potentially replace my iPad but I don’t see that happening. My EDC setup is really an Apple Watch Series 7 stainless steel and 14PM 512GB- Silver. IPAD is used if a larger screen. Is needed. Ideally I’m using this mindset towards my approach; Apple Watch to replace iPhone , iPad to replace computer.

I just got the 14 pro... the first thing I did was turn off the always-on display. as nice as it was, wasn't sure about battery drainage, and it was always a little warm with it on, so I turned it off... and the other important thing for me, the camera specs between the 14 pro and pro max.... Apple users you have been privileged to a good battery life, life long Samsung user first moved to 14 pro was blown away by the battery then moved to the pro max battery was mind blowing for me but the shape and size of the phone got me back to 14 pro and never looked back battery performance etc just Amazing ( if you are coming from a android device)
