@mbvglider3 жыл бұрын
@Garrus Vakarian I just saw that video and he does correctly state that the M1 Pro doesn't beat everything right now in productivity tasks, so it's hard to recommend outright. But the other way you can think of it is, he acknowledges that much of this is to do with lack of native software in November 2021, and that is something that will only improve with time. Meaning, if you're reasonably happy with how the M1 Pro performs right now, as it's at least competitive with other laptops in that price range, over time, your computer will perform even better as more software becomes properly optimized for the newest chips. What other laptop out there can you say that about, that you're actually sitting on a bunch of extra performance that could be unlocked over time?

I really like your videos and how you go deep in details and test. The only thing I would suggest is a battery test review of a normal everyday use and not a battery test when running benchmark and heavy tasks. The idea behind that is if I am to do some heavy intensive work, I'll probably be sitting at a desk so I would have my charger close to me, but I tend to rely more on my battery when moving from place to place and use it for video conference or web browsing. Just a suggestion :)

This please! Especially comparing Max to Pro as we already know that you trade some battery life if you go for Max chips, but not exactly sure how big is the difference.
@thebuddercweeper3 жыл бұрын
This is exactly my problem with every battery test I’ve seen for the new MacBooks, it’s always people doing relatively heavy workloads like photo and video editing, benchmarks etc. Personally, if I’m going to be editing in photoshop or final cut, I’ll just plug in anyway because I don’t really have to move around much while I’m doing those things, but I’d love to see the battery life while watching KZbin, web browsing, playing music etc at ~50% brightness.

@@arm8636 Face ID and less blooming are the only real things I wish it had. its plenty fast enough for my needs and seems to fit a lot of peoples work demands but thats just my opinion. I dont use external SSD but if it's that slow than its something to look forward too. I think the design ergonomically is much better than before because ive had both the intel 16" and now the m1 pro 16" and I can say that even though on paper the M1 pro is heavier, its much easier to carry because of the curved edges and better grip you can get. I actually don't mind at all carrying this 16" because the weight feels better distributed on my hand and less uncomfortable than the sharp edges on previous models. but if it can be lighter and thinner that would be nice but I am still content with the design. bottom line is that you can say this for any product any computer that next year is gonna have upgrades. I think personally that these specific upgrades they have gotten this year is pretty substantial and drastic in a really good way. Mostly that this is the laptop people should get if they want to upgrade because I personally think these will last way longer than the 2016-2020 MacBooks will with all its features and power, I dont think theres any huge let downs from these models

I'm in this boat, too, but moving to be a full professional photographer. I MAY take on some video projects but I'm never going beyond 4K60 10-bit 4:2:2 video. I think the M1 Pro 10-core model with 16GB of RAM may actually be the one to get, screen size is your choice. I'm usually working on projects with 1,000+ images, so going with 2TB may be in my best interest with the 1TB storage being best for you. For your build, I'd go with: 14"/16" MBP M1 Pro, 10-core model 16GB RAM 1TB SSD Remember, the CPU core count is split into 2 efficiency cores and X performance cores, depending on the chip; 10-core would give you 8 P-cores and 2 E-cores.

I have watched quite a number of reviews on these new macbooks. I'm also not sure whether to choose the M1 Pro 16' or the M1 Max 16', for this reason, the battery life. What my current macbook pro (15' 2013) struggles with the most, are actually plugins like "Reduce Noise" (from Neat Video) and "Cinema Grade". These are incredible plugins but they take FOREVER to render on my laptop. A lot of reviews do all these tests and talk about the battery life and how great these machines are when it comes to performance, but these are mostly edit tests with a little color grading, luts, or the high quality codex from high end camera's. I haven't seen anyone do a video edit test with these kinds of high demanding plugins I'm talking about. Would be very helpful to see these kinds of tests. So no 32gn ram Or m1max unless you do 3d work? Or heavy video editing right?

Choosing the MBPro 16 inch standard unit. Is 16GB vs 32GB ram viable solution? FYI - I have a 16GB i7, the fan turns on often the lag is very noticeable with the spinning wheel showing up multiple times a day. How hard have you pushed your 16GB unit?

If you want a test that will almost 100% turn the fans on at full power, run Adobe Dimension to render a 3D image. It doesn't bother me because it does the render SO much faster than my 2016 MBP, but all the reviews on line say how they can't get the fans to activate. I have yet to run a render without my fans going full bore on the 14" MBP M1 Pro with 16 gigs of RAM.

So when they say M1 PRO supports 2 displays, does it count HDMI + 1 USB or 2 displays via USB or in any combination a total of 2 ?

Only having 3 thunderbolt ports instead of 4 is really disappointing. Especially if work off a lot of external SSDs running an external monitor that has pass through charging I am now down to 2 ports instead instead of 3. Yes I could run a hub or plugin via the monitor but my experience is neither hubs nor pass through on the monitor give you the same speeds as plugging in directly. Further most professional cameras now need higher speeds card types so an SD card slot is become more and more obsolete.
