I live in the city where they have landscaped most with "artificial' nature as they work diligently to remove the real trees and terrain. It's all covered in their criptyd "drought resistant" trees. They are even chemically processing the good out of the landscape rocks, and using crushed cement as such. We had one snow this year that was heavy and broke many of those trees. That got me excited as I know Mother Earth is waking up and hopefully we'll see true nature again in the spring. The drought is man made and caused by corporations, like all other harms Mother faces.

@@Glhoq Kerosene heaters are fine as long as the wick isn't dirty. Always do a dry burn every couple of weeks to clean the wick. If you do not know what a dry burn is, it's when you let it burn completely out of fuel and it goes out on it's own thereby burning off any carbon buildup on the wick. Once it runs out of fuel it'll still burn for a bit and the carbon is what allows it to burn and you are cleaning the wick burning off this carbon.

Feel bad for that one spot in Missouri with the 1 inch ice forecast
@YouMatter-UDoКүн бұрын
We lived on a hill when we had bad storms over several days in southern IL many years ago. Ice built up to four inches outside. We were stuck up there for a few weeks. Firefighters were taping boards with nails driven into them on their boots to rescue people in the ravines who were foolish enough to be walking around.. I still do not know how we avoided losing power because it was a heavily wooded area.
@amgray0212Күн бұрын
No joke, that’s wild
@irenafarmКүн бұрын
I've only seen 1" of ice once. It was catastrophically disruptive. We had no power for a week, with some neighborhoods out for three weeks. We couldn't leave our street, either, because of downed trees. The severe effects were a result of a few strong hurricanes/TSs coming through the previous fall. Damaged trees just noped out after getting hit with high winds and a huge load of ice.

Imo everyone should have what my son calls the "Apocalypse corner." For us it's a shelf in the garage with power outage supplies, radios, our water, and camping gear. The food prep is seperate: dry eggs, fruits and veggies, powdered milk, TVP, beans, grains, soup packets, and a few canned items. I also have handcrafty/woodcraft stuff in the Apocalypse Corner like canvas, leather, cord, and firestarters but that's because we used to live really far from civilization. :)
