I love my erevo 2.0 I turned it into a bit of a monster truck using stiffer springs and the larger proline trencher wheels. The main weaknesses I see are the center driveshafts, steering servos and the rear tie rods. I upgraded to a single savox servo and it was a great investment

For the money and the quality the Rustler is a no brainer! Same chassis as the slash so plenty of aftermarket parts. Super easy to work on compared to the Erevo. Pops wheelies with ease on 3s. Aluminum shock caps and upgraded Aarms and it’s a solid basher! 🤙🏽

Great comparison video. All the info I needed. I have a Revo 2.0, and am considering downsizing to the rustler 4x4 VXL due to the cost to maintain my revo, and the size of it being an issue. Otherwise I really do love my revo. You said it right when you said that size and cost are really the most important factors. For me it’s been both. Thanks for being a non-biased voice for beginners like me to learn before we buy.

My friend has E Revo 2.0 and I got the Maxx. The E Revo 2.0 only last for 10 minutes before broken, but the Maxx is extremely durable. I drove it off a 6 ft cliff once and it survived.

Any of the 3 will put a smile on your face. I've got the maxx(awesome),and the rusty 4x4(fun),torn on the revo 2.0 as I have the o.g revo that started it all, it's nowhere near as durable as the newer rc's even "bullet proofed",but always impressive. I'm currently drooling over the Arrma EXB,probably end up there instead of the revo 2.0. Great video

So happy to be a simple man. Been running my stock, brushed Stampede for about 9 years and just purchased a stock, brushed 4x4 Rustler and absolutely love it (admittedly, it is a bit slow). I credit my parents for getting me all those junky RC cars growing up, which makes an entry level Traxxas look like a beast by comparison.

I still have a Jato myself. It's been heavily modified, though. Dirt guard, rollbar and EZStart delete, single speed transmission swap, ROAR-legal (or at least what used to be considered ROAR-legal before they killed the class) 2.2" wheels, Dynamite Platinum .12 engine and matching high-speed tuned exhaust, RPM A-arms and bumpers, Spectrum radio, center-mounted LiPo receiver pack, modified brakes using short lengths of fuel line as release springs (STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS MOD, THE STOCK BRAKE SETUP IS GARBAGE), ceramic brake disk and a ProLine CrowdPleazer 2.0 body. I know a few of these mods might seem a little weird since they _technically_ reduce performance (specifically the transmission and engine), but this was a racing build. The stock Jato is not a legal setup for racing as two-speed transmissions are only allowed in Nitro MT and 1/8th scale on road Can-Am and Grand Touring, and even the original TRX 2.5 engine is technically a bit too large in terms of displacement (it's actually just a bit larger than .15ci, which is the displacement limit for the nitro 1/10th scale truck class). Plus, the reduced power makes the car a lot easier to drive, which actually makes the car faster around a track in the long run. As for removing the EZStart, I use a starter box. It's almost as easy to use, it saves weight by not needing a big on-board starting system, and it reduces rotational resistance on the crankshaft. That last thing really helps with throttle response. And if you're not convinced that a slower car can be faster around the track, one race (back when I still had the original TRX 2.5 in this thing - it was a club race so the rules were relaxed) I went to had a single RC10GT2 with a Dynamite Mach .12 in it. Everyone else was running JATOs with either the TRX 2.5 or the OS .18MAXX (a popular upgrade for anything running a TRX 2.5 or 2.5R, since it was less temperamental than the stock engines while also providing comparable power). The GT2 eventually crashed out due to a nasty run-in with one of the JATOs, but it absolutely dominated qualifying.

@pewterngold Жыл бұрын
@@greggschachterleppc2769 I have not purchased a Maxx V2. The Rustler is a great platform though. Lots of parts and modifications you can do to really personalize and hop it up. That’s the part of the hobby I really enjoy doing and Traxxas offers all kinds of options for that. Especially with the Rustler. I purchased the 2WD Rustler before the 4x4 version came out and than hopped it up over time. But the 4x4 version is even better. If you want more of a “monster truck” style than go with the Maxx. If you want more of a racer stadium truck that will handle better, go with the Rustler.

I have the mini revo and it’s awesome. The biggest weak point is the chassis. All the suspension is mounted on a tiny tab front and rear. I’ve broke two chassis now and the fix I’ve found is a metal front skid plate to help support the small tab from breaking by mounting it to the tab and rest of chassis. I’ve also worn out two servos as well.

Having trouble locating my erevo comment from one of your videos, but I just wanted to say that since having the erevo I got from you guys, it has been the victim of front and backflips, cartwheels and just generally janky crashes many times, haphazardly ran it into wooden fences a few times, and oh yeah, ran it up a tree, failing at that particular backflip lol. The truck will take some practice. I've only had it out 3 or 4 times so far. A lot of crashes have been on grass and pavement both. And I see no damage at all yet, except for the body and bottom scrapes of course. It truly is a beast and tons of fun! I havent even istalled my upgrades yet, either! Keep up the good work guys over there at AMain...

@VestedUTuber 4 жыл бұрын
@@Ben.N That really depends on the vehicle. Early RC monster trucks were just stadium trucks with a body lift, and you still see them from time to time with entry-level models. But the high-riding ones, starting all the way back with the original T-Maxx, TXT-1 and Mad Force, look a lot more like an actual monster truck. The REVO is technically a step backwards in that regard, but it was originally intended as a response to the truggy scene which had just started at the time, and as a result it was actually designed to be a bit of a hybrid between a monster truck and a truggy, with a few added twists as well.

Another investment I’d get is this... something to hold the LiPo battery during charging and for LiPo storage... at the very least a LiPo sack big enough to hold your largest battery or better yet a LiPo battery box (BatBox is a good one sold by Amain Hobbies... unless you’d rather make your own if you are do it yourself savvy)... and other investment would be have a set of quality tools as stock ones may not be up to snuff for durability and sometimes, although kinda rare, even with included stock tools you don’t have all the ones you need.... case in point for nitro model users... extra air filter elements, air filter oil, and the biggie... after run oil (even though nitro/glow fuel nowadays says with its new features that after run procedures don’t need to be done for short term storage... a little of the real thing goes a long way in making sure your engine is kept safe and stored happy so next time you fire it up it’s gonna be fine... make sure the tune is good)

Ah, TSM. Also known as "don't bother learning throttle control, we'll do it for you". Also... "changing the connector voids the warranty" - literally the only company that actually enforces this, because they want you to use their batteries and theirs alone, even though there are FAR superior options.
@jgrc73
@jgrc73 3 жыл бұрын
1.tsm is superior to human capability when braking. Take what you will from it, but I assume you specify no abs on your 1:1 cars...? At any rate, just turn it off if you dislike it...in addition one can use the 6533 receiver to install cruise control on any rc crawler, is that horrible of Traxxas as well? 2.closed loop systens prevent failure. Again, take what you want from it, but it makes the most sense from a manufacturers point of view. From ours, as “enthusiasts” we obviously use other battery and connector options... If you cut a new arrma rc’s power cord, installed a traxxas connector, then called them for a warranty claim, would they laugh before hanging up?
@VestedUTuber
@VestedUTuber 3 жыл бұрын
@@jgrc73 "tsm is superior to human capability when braking. Take what you will from it, but I assume you specify no abs on your 1:1 cars...?" TSM isn't ABS. It's a gyro-based stability control system linked to the steering channel - effectively sticking an HPI D-Box or a heading hold unit for a helicopter in the receiver itself. ABS was tried a while back with the Futaba 3PL and 3PK. No one used it so the feature was dropped. "At any rate, just turn it off if you dislike it..." Problem is that Traxxas is using it to justify a massive price hike. I've worked with embedded gyro sensors before, even a 3-axis unit on a breakout board is only $20 and you don't need something anywhere near that high-end for this. I had the same complaint when Losi started loading all their RTRs with AVC (they did that before Traxxas, in fact). "closed loop systens prevent failure. Again, take what you want from it, but it makes the most sense from a manufacturers point of view." Not going to argue against this. The problem is that Traxxas batteries are low-quality garbage being sold for premium prices. For the price of a 2S 5000mAh 20c soft-case pack from Traxxas, you can get a 2S 6000mAh _75c ROAR-approved hard-case_ pack from Turnigy and still have a good amount of money left to put towards second pack. I wouldn't have as much of an issue if Traxxas didn't insist on charging an arm and a leg for stuff that's blatantly not worth the price. People have compared Traxxas to Apple, and with a little market research it's easy to see the connection. I didn't like it when Horizon did it with the new Spektrum SMART series batteries either, although at least they had the common sense to include a separate balance plug in addition to the balance-capable primary plug and to not take the original EC3 off the market in the process. "If you cut a new arrma rc’s power cord, installed a traxxas connector, then called them for a warranty claim, would they laugh before hanging up?" They'll tell you to remove the aftermarket connector before sending the product to them for diagnostics. An electrical connector is just a set of contacts that allow for the quick connection of an electrical circuit, in a case that holds them together. There's very few issues that can actually apply to them and usually such issues are obvious, such as a loose wire or burnt or broken contact.

At the end of the day it's a hobby, you'll get another truck no matter which one you pick, you will break and fix each one. I have a MAXX and have put a few dollars into it on aluminum caster blocks, aluminum tie rods, proline trencher (3.8s) and a metal spur gear. In my opinion you do not need the Widemaxx with the trenchers on the maxx. It's a night and day difference in stability. If your thinking of going wide, get the tires first, then decide. It is a little more tame for sure, but I tried different pinions as well (20 and 22) and went back to stock in the end. Still great battery life, doesn't get hot (4s), Metal driveshafts will be next when they break.

I don’t understand why the E-revo is so unpopular. They are saying that it breaks too easily, but mine runs for a year now and everything is still fine. I don’t make big jumps from a skateramp, but 1-2 metres jumps is not a problem. I think the Maxx or the Xmaxx are better for bashing, but the E-revo is not build for that.

Nice vídeo as always Brett! I have Maxx and the Erevo 2.0. Maxx is more durable but is worse to drive and is great for surviving skateparks. The parts for her is harder to find, even at Amain. The rear push rods in the 2.0 are a weak point that is difficult to solve but I still prefer it over the Maxx. Erevo is more versatile.

It does say 40 mph with stock gearing on 3S on the box. I doubt anyone buys a 400$ RC without at least a minimum research... I'm an aware buyer of the Rustler 4x4 vxl. With my budget and the space where I can drive, the Rustler is perfect. Parts are cheap and available everywhere. After 3 months of use I have no issues with it. 3 times the shock caps came off after a heavy crash (I had to put the shocks together and refill the oil, no parts broken or missing), but besides that - nothing. Perfect 1st car for introducing to the hobby. Would buy it again (or Slash, it's almost the same). IF I had double budget and had a bigger place to drive, I would consider the revo. The maxx is not my style.

Nice! Sounds like you have an awesome R/C playground. With all that space and varying terrain, I would recommend the Maxx or the larger E-Revo. They will be the most capable in all the different and uneven terrain types, especially the E-Revo. The Rustler is a great truck, but with the smaller ground clearance and tires, it could get hung up in tall grass. The E-Revo will probably best serve you. -Brett

Hey! I’m planning to get the E-Revo 2.0 or the Maxx. (The Rustler 4x4 just doesn’t suit me) and I like the E-Revo 2.0 but apparently it has a lot of problems, and it just looks too complicating. I've got an issue with my Erevo: I bought it used and it worked fine for a while until I let it sit in a cold place with the batteries (2x 3s original traxxas) plugged in. It wouldn't even turn on and the batteries wouldn't load on a Traxxas charger (at room temperature). I already got rid of those two (recycling) and tried my luck with the other batteries that the previous owner sold as to me well. But after only very little driving (we're talking seconds, not minutes), the red heat LED blinks on the ESC. The replacement batteries are actually hardcase ones, with similar rating (5000mAh, 45C vs 50C traxxas) but significantly lighter (300 g vs 370 g traxxas). And they are connected via an adapter to the erevo. As I understand it you'd want to avoid that usually. The question now is, is the car itself busted or are the batteries just trash? I'm fairly new to LiPo handling. For the better part of about 6 months, the batteries were always charged to max and not really used a whole lot. I only found out about the "storage" setting on my charged yesterday :P. My approach now would be to also get rid of the 2nd set of seemingly faulty batteries, get proper new ones and take better care of them. And hopefully enjoy the erevo as it's supposed to be.
@AMain_Hobbies
@AMain_Hobbies 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, car should be ok; do the connectors have rust? I wonder what the red LED is trying to tell us, is it the low voltage cutoff because the batteries aren't holding up? Two new identical batteries would be best for your situation, and recycle the old batteries; who knows what their condition was, or age. With r/c cars that use two batteries, both batteries need to be identical in all respects including their amount of use - you never want to power your ERevo with one new LiPo and one old LiPo. And yes, ditch the adapters because you're playing with fire on a 22.2V r/c car. -Brett
