I have the Maxxair fan in my van and have been using it daily now for just over 2 years and love it. I got the model with the remote and the thermostat is adjustable. I leave mine set at about 90 degrees and it's wonderful. Running the thing 24 hours a day and it doesn't even use enough power to notice any drain from the battery bank. One of the most over looked features is the difference like you pointed out with the Fanatasic fan only having a single lifting/support arm and the Maxxair having two of them. The fans with a single arm are famous for their top cover lids breaking lose and flying away on the highway because someone forgot to close the vent when driving. The maxair doesn't have that issue and can remain open and running while driving. Also another feature I don't know if you mentioned is that the Maxxair fan can be run with the top lid closed all the way and used like a ceiling fan. This is useful if you are running an AC to help circulate the air around the interior of the vehicle for more even cold air distribution.

Great response, I was going to ask if the fan still worked when closed.. when it’s closed does it still let outside air in? Or does it seem to seal up the gap so then the fan just moves the inside air around? One of my next purchases so thx in advance for your input!! ✌️

Great comparison. Wish I would have been able to see this a month or two ago. As I installed the Fan-tastic Fan (3-speed, 2 direction, thermostat) and also installed the big cover. Which brought my cost to $250. (before install kit and install supplies) The cover is kinda gaudy big. :-( Max air has a more comfortable noise factor it seems also.

The fantastic fan is my first roof vent installed in my first van that I live in full time for about 7 months now and my main complaint is the low speed isn't low enough, i like to have the fan on all the time but don't always want to listen to it and when its cold here in the Pacific NW my heater can't keep up with the amount of air it moves even on the lowest setting so i have to constantly turn the fan on and off to allow heat to build. Its better if I close every window but that adds resistance since the fan is trying to pull out air with very little able to come in so its much louder and that's annoying. Oh and it sucks in the rain, i have been soaked a few times because my hammock is positioned under the fan and if it wasn't raining when i went to bed and then starts raining I get a rude awakening. Im thinking i will swap it for a maxxair with a remote because thats a feature i didn't think i needed until i had to live with it everyday. Thanks for the video.

AUTO: Auto Mode allows the thermostat to turn the fan ON and OFF depending on the thermostat setting. Press this key once for less than three (3) seconds to enter Auto Mode, three (3) quick beeps will confirm the MAXXFAN has entered Auto Mode. To EXIT Auto Mode, press the ON/OFF key. Initial factory set point for the thermostat is 78°F/25°C. The green LED will light to indicate the MAXXFAN is in Auto Mode. To adjust, follow instructions below: If no previous thermostat temperature was entered, or you wish to change a previous set temperature, press the HOLD TO SET key for more than 3 seconds and you will hear one long beep and the thermostat will be reset to 78°F. To further adjust the set temperature, if desired, use the (+) or (-) Arrow keys to adjust at 1° increments per press. The fan will emit a beeping sound to confirm this setting. If a previous thermostat temperature was entered, the fan will remember this temperature setting and the next time you enter Auto Mode, the fan will start ventilating automatically as directed by the thermostat. The fan speed will automatically adjust based on the cabin temperature. As cabin temperature rises, the fan increases in speed. Note: If 12 volt RV power is removed from the MAXXFAN, the thermostat will be reset to 78°F/25°C.

I want to share my review of the Fantastic Vent 3350 because my experience with the fan is anything but fantastic. I bought mine 18 months ago, as friends, who have an older model, said it was very good. However mine makes a lot of noise and pushes so little air that I can barely tell if I have it set to exhaust or blow. If I turn it up to get more airflow it becomes even noiser! The rain sensor closes the vent at night so I can only assume that it senses the night time moisture and closes even though it is NOT raining. My friend's older model seems to push more air than my newer model. I get much better & quieter airflow from my little Sirocco fan and it was only $!60 not over $600. Dometic agreed to replace the fan and the airflow improved a little but it is still very noisy AND the rain sensor closes the fan at really odd times like late afternoon. So we can't use the fan unless we manually open the cover. So in summary, I have found it an appallingly poor performing fan that is just not worth the money.

Thank you for the info and showing both fans but I do have a question. I am thinking about buying a small 6 by 8 camper ( Rouser) from Runaway Camper. Have been doing research on the camper and everyone talks about condistation issues in their campers. Do you think one of the MaxAir fan would be enough for a small camper of 6 by 8 size or two. Did see one gentlemen have two fan set up like your one van. Fresh air coming in and venting out from the other. Appreciate your time and feedback. Take care! Jess
@IntoTheMystery133 жыл бұрын
One fan would be ok if you crack a window too and have leave the fan one. Condensation happens when it’s warm inside and cold outside. It mostly happens on glass and metal surfaces. Insulating those surfaces, having constant airflow, and lowering the humidity level will help a lot. You can get twelve volt dehumidifiers which help to an extend and don’t use a ton of power.
@IntoTheMystery133 жыл бұрын
The double fan is most handy when it’s raining, snowing, or hot outside. Cracking a window when it’s raining or snowing water is going to come in and cause more condensation and eventually mold which can make you really sick.

Everything you said was totally informative. I will be getting the Maxxair now. Just started looking for the roof vent/fan option for my rig. So, unlike others, I don’t have any regrets after watching the vid. You, again mention the two fan approach which is totally important. Because if that needs to be factored into the build, placement considerations can be made now, for the first Maxxair if people can’t buy them both at the same time. I’m curious, if two fans are to be used to coordinate the flow, is there a way to get maybe one good delux model, and get a so so model as the 2nd unit to balance the air flow only. If so, where would the better, fancy model go front, back? And why not next to each other not on top of each other, but side by side like a foot between or so. That way, the regions on the roof (3 main regions - front, middle and rear), can be properly assigned air flow accessories. Right now think I like fan No. 1 in center front region, an AC unit in the middle region and the rear region could be used for fan 2. Any thoughts you have on the placement issue please share, or even discuss your findings in another video. Thanks!

Into The Mystery ⓭ Thx. I’m planning on getting a smaller van, ford transit connect short wheelbase, and live in it (same size as the honda element i lived in before). debating between a 6” ventline fan (+ usb fan + front windows cracked) versus maxxair. Leaning towards smaller one for more stealth since the maxxair looks a bit bulky and maybe it’ll reduce gas mileage with wind resistance. Any thoughts? Into The Mystery ⓭ Yeah, I just saw a bit about them in one of your older videos (which are awesome and helpful btw!). Reviews on amazon on both fans aren’t so positive (heard maxxair rattles above 40mph and is not reliable) but it seems like it’s the way to go since I can’t think of any better idea.
