Ever heard the saying it’s fun to ride a slow bike as fast as it can go rather than a fast bike slow? That Kawi just has too much power! It’s fast in the straights but that only makes you have to brake that much harder to slow down before the curve! Keep riding hard brotha!!

I think it's a combination of things that lead to the result but you handled it very well considering all that goes through your mind right before a race. You stayed within your comfort zone and finished the event in one piece, that's a win. I wouldn't pay much attention to the haters, we all started somewhere and get better the more we do it. It was obvious that you were nervous, which is absolutely normal. Keep going bro, you got skill and balls of steel. So, the only things I would focus on based on the video are as follows: 1. Don't doubt yourself just because you fall behind. It seemed like you were trying to keep up instead of focusing on your fundamentals, analyzing your lines, speed, and breaking points. Once you have a few races under your belt, you will begin to make the small adjustments. 2. It seemed like you didn't know your bike well enough to recognize when you were getting close to its limits, so you never felt confident enough to push it. I hope an outside perspective helps, take care and best of luck on the track.
@WattsOnTheMind

Dude, seeing you take the fast riding to the track was amazing to see. But the fact that you are starting to get a passion for racing as well? INCREDIBLE!!! The first race gets the feel for it all and is thr start to something much more stick to it, keep practicing and find a good coach and you'll be up there with the rest of them. I'm proud of you for making the decision to move the fast stuff to the track. I raced motocross my whole life so if you need to talk to anyone about race stuff hit me up on discord. The jitters never go away on that starting line, you get use to it and once the throttle drops everything turns to focusing on breathing, keeping your pace and riding your own race. Don't try to follow the guy in front of you, just keep applying pressure to them and hope they mess up leaving the window open for you.

Doing really well.. Well done man. It has be a long time since I used to throw my Ninja around the various tracks in Aus here... ( and old zx9r, good old carb days ) A couple of quick pointers... if no one has picked it up. Once you have hit the brakes try not to hit the throttle again before the corner, and use your breaks a little harder ( IIRC, H2's have ABS... lean on the ABS and then back off a bit to get a feel for hard braking ) Your tyres will likely be the limiting factor here. Because the H2's throttle looks really snatchy, the above will help your balance on turn in. Try pick your braking point and be consistent with it. Mind you the track is a little featureless which makes this a bit more difficult. But once you find your points stick with them, and adjust ( as minimally as possible ) as your tyres ware and your fuel / weight goes down. All in all though excellent first time.. The H2 is a beast of a bike to hit the track on.

About four years ago an H2 rider got permission to run in the 1000cc class at the Ulster Grand Prix (the worlds fastest road circuit along with the TT) ,he pulled out after the three qualifying sessions as although the H2 was smoking everyone on the straights it was still 6 to 8 seconds a lap slower than the backmarkers . I don't know if they do the mile and two mile races in the US (mostly held on runways) but tuned H2s and H2Rs clean up in those races.

I feel like your main mistake is letting off the throttle completely while in a corner. I know it seems textbook to do that but I always have a bit of throttle throughout the entire corner, never let the rpm drop to nothing. It does take more control but yeah. In my opinion it just feels safer if you’re on the throttle a bit while going through the corner, 0 throttle definitely a no no.

That looks like Buttonwillow. It's a challenging track-and the locals ride there all the time, so it's easy to get smoked. And, there are no brake markers. Wise decision no to be the first one into the corner...when I went there for a track day a few years ago, I hung back and watched three bikes go off on the first corner. It's always best to check your ego at the door and ride your own ride.

I understand bigger bikes that are faster have to brake sooner just like big fast race cars have to brake sooner to reduce their speed to the limits of the tire grip. However given this is your first race how much less of a back or more gap behind if you took a motogp rider who understands bikes to muscle memory would there be. More theoretical than critical message. Good on you for getting on the race track and your first race as you said you kept up well. Cool video. I loved the audio

This seems more like a canyon ride than a race. Should be hard on the gas and hard on the brakes. The bike is capable of doing more than you can give it so don't worry about exceeding its limits.

Take my advice, Race the lightweight bikes for a while, prior to 600-1000. Your skill level will improve dramatically faster, and those learned skills will carry over. ps, In a race you’re either on the gas or on the brake. If you’re coasting you’re losing time.🤙🏻

You really aren't surprised are you....lol. Get an R6, GSXR, Zx6 or Triumph 675r and learn to trail brake like a demon, carry more corner speed and hold better lines. Work on your vision, eyes up, as well it slows everything down. Your throttle control is not so good, your kinda ruff, smooth is fast brother. If it's your bike then richen your fuel map from off idle to 5k rpm @ 5,10,15 20% throttle openings so your smoother getting back on the throttle at the apex, when riding on the limit this is important especially if you have no TC which you won't on a 600 unless you go with a bazzaz TC FI. You don't wanna be testing that air vest when you high side. Good luck you will learn a lot at the track! Lesson one grasshopper.... it's not about the Hp....lol. My last bit of advice is don't have an ego, listen to the really fast guys that aren't crashing all the time, they will give you good info. 👍
