Objectives:
1. Explain the abortion legislation implemented in Indiana in 2022 as well as current legal challenges to the law.
2. Summarize actions IU Health has taken to assist providers and patients in compliance with the law and locate available resources.
3. Discuss the effects of both Indiana law and similar legislation adopted in other states.
Dr. Caroline (Carrie) E. Rouse, MD joined the IU Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division in September 2017. She is from Indiana and is a graduate of the IU School of Medicine. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Washington School of Medicine, followed by her MFM Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She is the Medical Director of Labor and Delivery and Co-Director of the OB ICU.
Lisa Martin is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, and has been serving as the Chief Compliance Officer to IU Health since 2013, serving her fellow Hoosier. Prior to serving in various in-house counsel roles for hospitals, she received her law degree from University of Virginia and spent nearly 10 years with law firms in California and Tennessee providing trial defense for drug and device manufacturers in products liability cases.
