You know your day's gonna be a bad one when you walk outside and see the Dominator parked and hunkered down in front of the house.

Now this is a first class vid. Up close footage and pure storm sounds without some deranged lunatic ruining it by screaming at the top of his lungs. Well done. Thank you. Excellent video.

Actually, if you watch the 2-part "Nemesis" episode of Tornado Chasers Season 2 (entire season is on Reed's YT channel), you'll notice that Reed was at the QUIETEST he's ever been for THIS tornado, despite this tornado being one of the CRAZIEST storms he's ever intercepted (I say "storm" because I think the Supercell that spawned the tornado, doesn't get enough credit as a whole. It was like a hybrid Supercell/MCS/QLSCS type thing).

Without a doubt, the best footage I've seen of the genesis of this incredible tornado. Most of the footage I've seen, you can't even see the tornado because of the rain wrap. This thing was an absolute beast.
@gwagner45818 жыл бұрын
It's too bad the tornado was too strong to intercept in its early stages. Boy, it started a monster and ended a monster. Keep up the good work. I still can't believe Tim died in that tornado.

Thanks for posting. This is an angle I wasn’t able to see before during the initial rain wrapping development. Not trying to make it sound like I was there I just watch lots of film 😁.

That powerful inflow (I guess that's what it's called) that so many chasers got caught up in and managed to escape is to this day some of the most remarkable, yet frightening tornado footage I've ever seen. It looked like really windy fog and I've never seen any other tornado footage that was even remotely similar to that. The fact that you can occasionally see these satellite tornadoes (probably the size of F2 or 3 tornadoes based on the old Fujita scale) dancing around this massive primary vortex makes the whole scene just incredibly eerie and menacing.

One of these days now that technology has progressed to the point we can actually make wind readings out via dollar rather than damage path, this should’ve been an EF5. I genuinely think the folks that rate these tornados are afraid to drop an EF5 rating now like people were afraid to say tornado on the air 60 years ago

Mind blowing, incredibly awe striking and profoundly sad. Much respect to all storm chasers whom feel committed and obligated to pursue these all consuming devastating energy beings in hope of understanding the mund if the beast better to serve warning and helping create safety for the lives of those who are in its devouring path. That's a very unique-looking atmosphere later in the video, it almost looks like fog. Was that the area of inflow covering square miles? I know this was a massive tornado, but I've never seen anything like that around any other tornado, or storm. Either way, very cool video. Thanks for sharing. :)
@skateboardingjesus40062 жыл бұрын
It looks like Reno Street along the bottom of the airport. Which makes sense that they were at the back of the notch. It's like the inflow and updraft have created a relatively turbulent free area .

I am interested in the satellite tornado near the end of your video, after about 4:10 on the tape counter. What road were you on, about where were you on that road, and do you recall the time? I was also there that day but did all of my SLR photography from Jensen Road --nothing close or dramatic (posted on my David Hoadley, Facebook). Thanks.

Apparently there were to or three of those. So big and strong that they were tornadoes themselves in strength, with the main much bigger and more powerful original in the center.

So they arrived from the North expecting to put the Dominator vehicles in the path of the tornado as it headed North East (the usual path of the tornado) I guess they were a bit surprised that it headed South East initially.

Am I seeing one or two satellite tornadoes at 4:00? And are satellite tornadoes different from subvortices?
@sawspitfire4225 жыл бұрын
With a tornado like this its hard to tell, the one on the left looks like its part of the main rotation judging by how fast it moved, the right one I'm not to sure about. I've seen footage of this tornado with subvortices of that size, but its hard to get a sense of distance through video
@sawspitfire4225 жыл бұрын
actually on second thought I'm fairly certain both were suction vortices, the main funnel you see to the left was only part of the main rotation, and in fact at any time there were several vortices of that size rotating around the main funnel, at some pretty ludicrous speeds too
@skateboardingjesus40062 жыл бұрын
Were those first shots from Heaston Road? That really is some of the best close-in shots I have seen of this event. You were way too close to those satellites. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole rotating system was mainly big well formed subs jostling for space and swapping around. Before the weather channel's car was hit, it caught a good glimpse of a train of well defined vortices that seemed to slingshot each other along. I wonder if each one's entrained mass of debris was sufficient to keep them all centrifuging around each other in the huge girth that made up this monster?
