I Chop all my garlic up and place it in olive oil and freeze it in ice cube trays then pop them out and store in zip lock bags

The same thing happened to my garlic, but at the beginning of May before any scapes had formed…it rained very hard here (with excessive wind) in MD for 2 weeks straight, and I didn’t have anything to cover it with…lost them all. The stalks were bent over and when i went to gently hold them upright, they melted off into my hand. The stalks had completely rotted. Dug up a few garlic heads over the next few weeks in between good days, no bulbs had been able to form; they were just the white ends of the stalks. i didn’t see any bug damage on mine, but i was devastated. It was my first season trying garlic, and everything looked amazing in April 😢

I'm sorry, that's such a bummer!! The weather has been so off and on with the rain :( Hope you try again for next year though!

Same thing happened to my garlic patch. The rains with winds came and blew all the stalks down. I left it all hoping they'd straighten again. Nope! More rain fell so my first time growing garlic is a wash out... Literally! I'll let the soil dry out then pull them up to see what I have. I'm so disappointed. They were growing so well😢

How strange. I’m in Central Oregon and the same thing is happening to my garlic in containers. I grew my garlic in containers last year and had a great harvest with lots of scapes. Must have been that eclipse! 😬

Lucky you to have so many caterpillars visit! I only have 1 single black swallowtail on my fennel.

I'm sure you'll get more every year if you keep planting for them!

I had those same caterpillars on my sage plant but now they’re gone. I’ve never seen them before so I hope that means they’ll cocoon somewhere in the garden.

They're swallowtail caterpillars, and if you want to plant for them, they love dill, fennel, and carrot tops!

Is it the leek moth? I think they cause that kind of damage.

I had a complete garlic failure this year. All were infested with Allium Leaf Miner larvae. It stunted their growth and made them appear like they didn't bulb. However, once dried I noticed that they had tiny little cloves inside.

On another note- Alliums does not like to be mulched, and prefer to be on drier side!
