A very poignant analogy of that bus as a microcosm of society with its stress, quick to anger and intolerance of others exacerbated by our addiction to social media and loss of empathy for fellow human beings. This film was a masterclass on how not to behave and treat others around you.

I hate the modern obsession with filming and shaming people on social media now, the pregnant woman... albeit stressed and dealing with alot of problems of her own...., was still a little quick to bite that guy's head off . Yes he was a bit of an arsehole and should have given up his seat but it escalated like crazy. And because he was scared to be called a creep again ...he didn't help her friend who fell on the ground 🤦‍♀. unfortunately these are the serious consequences... and people end up fearing if they try to help someone , it will be misinterpreted as something sinister . Really sad times we live in.

As a woman, I would offer my seat to a pregnant woman, an elderly person, or a disabled one, but her attitude would make me sit still in my seat. Ask kindly, and people are likely to respond, but that sense of entitlement irks me, no matter what that person’s condition appears to be. Initially, I felt so bad for her when the man didn't give up his seat, and I thought what a monster, what sort of message is he teaching his son by being so cruel? But then when she filmed him and threatened to shame him online in front of his son, I thought what a monster she is; to film someone without their consent is pure evil. At the end, it seems they both regret behaving so badly and hopefully will become better people in the future.

This short film us great. It really portrays the nuances and complexity of actual lives. The wide variety of comments taking different sides and giving different viewpoints is a proof if that. Here's my take. People shouldn't be entitled to receive other's seat because they are pregnant or old or disabled. If the person in front gives their seat then it's great, this would make them a good person. But conversely refusing to give up the seat also doesn't make them a bad person either. My reasoning behind this is that people should be individualistic and their actuons should largely be based on how the outcome would affect them. Now many people would disagree with me and say that giving up the seat for a disabled (elderly, or pregnant woman) is the basic duty of everyone. I believe the principle reasoning behind this is that people should consider their actions affects the society at large (not just them). When we extend this thinking more we also come to the point where most of our decision is dictated by how the people around us perceive it and affects them. This is where arranged marriages (spouse selected by primary apporval of parents, extended family, and society) comes into play. This is the thinking behind many of the customs and rituals of many "traditional" societies. This is something I'm not alot approving of. All these explains just the man's decision to not give up his seat. There's a lot to be said about all other characters involved in this film.

This is a horrible take. I’m sorry you’re being made to believe some women want to be victims when that is statistically not accurate against the amount of women actually victimized. She’s 9 month pregnant. If you ever experience that, you will understand. You SHOULD BE prioritized in that condition. You would be bringing a life into the world. Stress could kill the baby. No reason to make a pregnant woman more stressed or anxious ever.

Do you know what's the problem here? Everyone is trying to blame the men or the woman instead of seeing the problem. Nobody left a seat for a pregnant woman! Maybe she went for the only men with a child thinking it could be the only one that could gave her the seat but didn't, at the end he saw what she already knew entering in that bus. She couldn't trust them. She's pregnant, she's having the baby in the end. Do you know what it means having another living life inside yourself, with all the consequences affecting your body? She might be a little too angry, but if it was a men who fought a war and someone said no to him, uuh the bus would stop in that moment just to make the bus empty for him to seat. Heartbreaking, stunning film. Before men and women we are people living on this earth.

Segregation is a very common thing in Pakistan, because the population is largely Muslim. It's mostly preferred by women here. The women's section is by no means lower of worse than the men's, it's just so that practicing Muslim women don't feel discomfort around men.
@JasonBatemanC

While we don't know the backstory, getting pregnant without being in a committed relationship where the child will have provided for is disgraceful. Women want equality, then she must be treated like a man. Maybe she is pregnant, who cares, its just a clump of cells, right. Cafeteria feminism is sickening. Much of the world rejects modern western morals. Modern women often overreact, blame others and play the victim as is depicted in this scene.

The 'snapshot' short film is its own artistic genre; audience doesn't see before or after, just stay in moment with characters. This was well done and rings true: everybody is a f¥cked up person, in their own way, dealing with their own sh*t; but nobody is a cartoon villain. 21st century social commentary - the obsession with social media turns people in your path into fodder to be broadcast for amusement or obnoxious righteous indignation, from anywhere in the world. Nice subtle moments: hybrid English- Urdu language, crude reference to 'Western women', college friend shedding a little bit of light on protagonist backstory for context without expounding, expressions of resentment and exhaustion on face of female lead actor and expression of horror on male lead's face while holding the curtain and calling his son away from the voyeur men. Solid cinematography and editing, as well as main actors' skill creating 3-dimensional characters.
@zyrosqrd2552
@zyrosqrd2552 Жыл бұрын
@Frithia5281 Everyone recording or streaming is a voyeur to some extent, creating a distorted reality TV show. My point was that the father was holding the curtain to shield the women anxiously pulled his son away from all the men sitting around him in that section. The message I got was that he didn't want his son to think the behavior of these 'men' was acceptable to him. The pregnant woman was going Urdu versión of Karen on him by accusing and streaming him, but even though he was rightly pissed at her, his instinct was to protect a woman in a vulnerable position from the view of skumm-bags who wanted to gawk at her. I think his character was well-written and performed; someone who may not be 'nice' or 'friendly', who may be short-tempered and express annoyance- that guy can still be a basically decent person.

The fact that if there is someone kind, their kindness is laughed upon or taken in the wrong context. The bystanders who never help but only enjoy or gather around an issue with their phones to see what the drama is. The main character (the girl) is a by-product of this society. If I was riding a crowded bus in my final month of pregnancy, I would have asked a woman for a seat, especially in a country where the seating is segregated. But if I was in the USA and there were only males on the bus, I wouldn't ask a father who had his young son riding with him. This film was very good and it kept my interest, but it didn't seem realistic. I also think it had an undertone of portraying "western" women in a certain way and that was sort of uncool.

It's risky for her to move around like that, so she wanted to get a seat right in the area where she entered the bus. As you can see, there are stairs to get to the women's section and it looks a bit rigorous for a 9-month pregnant to get to while the bus moves. You know she's like carrying something so heavy that makes her lowerback ache and kakes it harder for her to bend down. I get that she's overreacted, but guys it's science - it's a fact. I think some people in audience are missing out on the cultural context in this film. there are so many social elements shown here. Most importantly, a woman in the public is an anomaly in Pakistan; a woman on the street already is not seen as "respectful" and one who is not wearing hijab or shawl is an even "lesser" woman in the society. Groping is extremely common. maybe these men justify it in their heads that the woman was already outside her house so probably she is not a "good" woman. but then again, sexual and physical abuse by family members is extremely common for women who stay at home as well. It is a very dark but hidden evil of pakistani society (and many others). women usually stay quiet and or are forced to stay quiet about it because she is the one who is seen as "used" or "dishonored". she is left with frustration and anger alone, as you can see in this film too.

I think she should have made an announcement to the bus and held her clothes to show how pregnant she was, if indeed she was going to make a scene. "Is anybody well enough to lend me their seat for a few miles?" would have gone over much better than this shite she did. And if nobody offered and you really want to go to fb about it, then film everyone not helping you. If everyone treats her like dirt for not having a husband, then I can see where she'd develop a chip on her shoulder, but naturally that will only underscore their impression that she's unlovable. It is a sad story. It would be nice if doctors made home visits.

It's not chivalry, it's common sense. If an elderly person falls, they'll break a hip and spend months in hospital. If a pregnant woman falls, both she and the baby may die or the baby could suffer permanent brain damage. If I fall, I'd mostly likely graze a knee, which is why I'd give my seat to elderly or pregnant people, because they would suffer more than me if they fall. @@really2345 I look the definition of obligation in the dictionary, and this is what it said: OBLIGATION: an act or course of action to which a person is morally or legally bound; a duty or commitment. So, I'm lost to the meaning of you suggesting that my view on this is petty because the story developed specifically because the pregnant lady insisted and obliged the able-bodied man to yield his seat being herself able to find it elsewhere. The story proves the able-bodied man was in the right to ask the pregnant lady to look for a seat in the front of the bus. I do not condone fully the man's answers to the woman, but she sure provoked a most disgraceful exchange. You are acting just like the lady in this movie, looking to provoke an argument unnecessarily where you could look for it elsewhere to find it. Again, the man was under no obligation to yield his seat and no pregnant woman should oblige a stranger to yield their seat under no circumstances. Actually this film shows both male and female suffering in a patriarchal world. Here are the clues: 1. The first scene. She is a pregnant woman minding her business and waiting for the bus. Why does that man stare and harass her when she is clearly trying to avoid him? 2. She enters the bus with the harassment fresh on her mind. She asks another man for kindness and he rudely refuses. She nearly falls and he tries to save her. Hurt and angry from the rude experiences before she tries to punish him. He did try to help her in the end but she does not know that. 3. Her friend celebrates that she is having a boy and not a girl. This is typical for a patriarchal society where sons are preferred over daughters. This film does a great job in showing how it's much easier to be kind and polite. Because both of them chose to be rude and selfish a big deal was made out of nothing.

I have so many emotions actually going through my mind right now. Like when I was pregnant no one helped me, my husband would take the car to work while I took the bus. At work I got treated no better, at home no one helped with the housework and cooking. When I decided to take a 1 week vacation from work to destress and focus on myself and my pregnancy, I ended up having a miscarriage (at 5 months) when I showed the same unchanneled and unhealed anger like her, everyone including my own mother silenced me. I'm sorry but, I take her side.

Girls want wealthy and good looking man, man wants beautiful girls, what why expect more from such personality. People often get what they deserve( here I am specific about your complain about kind of husband you have)

Lol the woman was entitled and irritating as hell, thinking that she's doing the world a favor by having a baby. But women like sticking together no matter what I guess.....

@@captainkryptex1986 I can tell she may have been through hell in life, and especially being a single mother in that part of the world is really taboo. I really like how they portrayed it. If you went through what im sure she went through, you'd be upset as hell. Here in North America, mostly people will get up for pregnant women, especially if she asks him or her to. And if that person refuses, everyone will indirectly shame him because they'll feel he has no sense of decency. Plus judging by your name, im sure you're a male, you wouldn't know of all the hardships hormonal chances and everything an expectant mother goes thru...so...

@@captainkryptex1986 also do read what I wrote carefully. You see its not about females taking females side. Females can be down right viscous to other females. I just sort of get where she's coming from. When I had my miscarriage, I didn't act like her. I just kept quiet and went to work. Ill tell you tho God was really helping me. This was decades ago tho. So try to be a little understanding. I'm sure if you have or ever will have a daughter, you'll get it then. Plus judging by your mindset. The universe will yield to you exactly that, and your perspective will change ✌🏼
