Hi Michelle! You've certainly been hard at work! I'd love to see a tutorial on the math magical quilt. Your "Blue Hawaii" quilt is gorgeous by the way! In our house, although of course we love Star Wars, my husband and I are actually bigger Star Trek fans. My daughter, however, was raised on Star Wars - the first movie came out when she was about 6 or 7 and she's been a die-hard fan ever since.

Anyone else spend most of the video trying to see which Star Wars fabric she had that we don't have, and which I have? I do have a good stash of SW fabric which I only used a little to do a light-side and dark-side quilt with just squares. Love to see ideas on how to used this type of fabric.
@bitspiecesquilting6 күн бұрын
Hi Wayne! It's an impressive collection, isn't it!! Mom bought most of it from a fabric store called Len's Mill Store (there are 12 locations in Southern Ontario). And other pieces have been picked up from various places over the years. There is a free pattern for both the chandelier quilt and Mathemagical on my website: www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com. And some of the Star Wars fans in my life *might* be getting SW quilted toiletry bags for Christmas. 😉

Thanks so much Jessica! I think one of the secrets is to have a bit of a "theme". In this case, it is Star Wars. But it would also work if your theme was Christmas, or spring garden, or halloween, or french provincial (blues, yellows and whites). Limiting the "scrappy" to a theme helps with cohesion, in my view. Thanks for watching.

Can the math-magical quilt be done using 10 inch squares?
@bitspiecesquilting29 күн бұрын
Hi Ginger - yes! You can use 10 inch squares, but you will have some left over pieces (1.5 inch pieces and/or 2 inch pieces), so be sure to save those for another project.
@gingernykaza785229 күн бұрын
@ can you make the 8 inch square a 10 inch and a 5 by 10 inch rectangle and a 5 inch square will that work? I have 2 Harry Potter layer cakes
@bitspiecesquilting29 күн бұрын
Hi Ginger - the math doesn't work that way. You have to consider the amount of fabric in the border pieces, plus (or minus) the seam allowances. Be sure to try this with scrap fabrics before you cut into your Harry Potter fabrics, but I think it will work. All of these are based on 1.5 inch border pieces. Large squares 10 x 10, rectangles 4.75 x 10 and small squares 4.75 x 4.75. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
