Thanks for the tutorial! At 36:38, instead of moving the cylinder face to the other end of the curve, you can just select Curves--> Reverse Direction to switch the beginning and end point of your curve.

At 18:48, I created the bridge (without extruding the edges) using Smooth path + curve, then raised the curve to create the arch. I pressed 4, selected the curve and raised those points.

At 7:54 Tool settings: Step snap. That's what makes it snap the scale, not whether it is scaling in the direction of the world or the object. An easier way to access the setting is to hold down the tool hotkey (w for select, e for rotate, r for scale) and hold down the left mouse button. This will make an easier to use tool settings menu appear. Uncheck the "snap scale" box to disable. Resetting the tool works because by default snap scale is off.

A useful tool when duplication multiple object along an axis or angle is the duplicate special tool, found under edit if I recall. It allow you to input the number of copies along with the distance and or angle degree. Click the check box on the right to modify the inputs otherwise it will use the last inputs that were set.

Hey Mike, I'm hoping you can answer a quick question. Did you have to change something in your settings so that Ctrl+D would both copy and move the board, repeating the last action? When I try it, it just continues to duplicate the board onto the copied one, and not repeat the move as well.
@MHTutorials3D
@MHTutorials3D 8 жыл бұрын
Sean, It is Ctrl+D to duplicate, then move it and then hit Shift+D to repeat

Hey I know what you mean Raistification. I had that problem too, when I did my first time. Problem this appeared when I did copy-past by myself 3:36 and move all elements manual, because shift+D somehow did't work that time. Anyway When I tried again and I put this two small walls close to each other (like on the video) and then automaticly copied shift+D 15-20 times was everything correct. I don't know why sometimes this shift+D is not working with me. But I hope that I helped. Try again and let me know how was it ;) Regards

When you join 2 separate parts (like the bottom of the bucket to the bucket walls) and you eyeball it to make them as flush as possible but without overlapping, what is the issue if you overlap them just a tiny bit so theyre then flush?, and then perhaps combine those 2 shapes once finalized? otherwise wouldnt you might end up with very small hidden gaps in between some parts? as it cant be perfectly flush unless it snapped edge to edge, but that cant happen with irregular shapes, hence my not understanding why overlapping is bad?
@MHTutorials3D
@MHTutorials3D 7 жыл бұрын
The overlap in textures could create bake issues ( if you bake the textures ) and in animated object ( this is not, I know ) you can get skinning, rigging and movement issues ) it is beter overall practice to avoid it

Hello Mike. Thanks for that great tutorial :) It was my first step to start with Maya 2017. It took me time, but I did it. I have a question. I am using Mac pro, so how I can find this option that you use insert key for? And the moment when you put shadow on object, how you did it is not really clear for me. Thanks for any answer from you :)
@MHTutorials3D
@MHTutorials3D 7 жыл бұрын
On a windows machine it is 1. Hit the inesrt key, move the pivot an dthen hit the insert key again. 2. You can also hold the D key while moving it instead. I think this works on MAC too. As for the lighting, hit 7

As a professional you surprise me. First Modify Freeze transformation was never used. Second as the bolts on the side align one than use duplicate special with however many you want and the pivot at center for 360 degrees was never discussed, go into hyper shade select all than group than duplicate and drag down with the scale option. I did the headache you had in 3 minutes. Plus the handle on the bucket would handle an ounce of water than break. As well as the holders on the sides of the bucket. I understand the tutorials are for newbies and you did give me an update on deformers in nonlinear pull down menu. But for something this simple I expected more. I like your work but help those that have no clue what interface should be used for. hypergraph is almost always open for me. As well as the attribute spreadsheet so multiple objects can be scaled/translated/rotated at the same rate without selecting each one individually. Don’t mean to sound like an Ahole.
