In this 5 minutes video I see so many tips. Thank you!

All good and well but is there anything that can do this on more complex meshes where there aren't any bevel nodes? This only really works on really simple stuff.

Great tutorial, although it doesn't work for me. After I set face normals for planar faces, then I apply soft normals for the object as you do, but that results on having default soft normals again as if I did nothing to planar ones. Do you lock normals or anything else before applying soft normals? Whatever I do, I get defult normals again

same for me, I unlock normals, delete history, it works randomly :(

same... the randomness of this technique working or failing has plagued me for years :( I don't know why it works sometimes and doesn't others.

same problem. what version of maya are you using?

Thankyou for taking the time for this. I hope I'm not missing something but I see no difference between using this method and simply Unlocking Normals > Set to Face (on all faces) > Soften Edge on all. Is the step for selecting all planar faces and Set to Face on them separately then Softening Edges actually necessary? I'm using Maya 2024 btw.

Hi Tim, great video. How do you approach unwrapping using this technique?

Cool. Also, what you gonna do with that n-gon on the main cube?

Is there a fast way to handle the 'curved' areas? I've been resorting to having to use a mixture of transfer attributes and attaching/detaching parts. It works, but it's more steps than I'd like.
