I dont know why but first thing that came to my mind after reading your comment is how would it look if Maya was a guest at Joe Rogan podcast. Maya: ... so i have an animal sanctuary here in texas to educate people about conservation. We have so far birds, emu... * maya mentiones all the animals *... an lastly we got two marmosets to educate people on primates. Joe: ..marmosets, are they like chimpanzee. ? Maya: ... they are a bit smaller and quite different, but are in the same family of primates. Joe: and are they intelligent as chimpanzee ? Because chimpanzee are wicked, heve you saw like the one who eat a womans face ? Maya: .. yeah those things can happen when people hold them as pets. Joe: and he just tore her face up one day.. like ARGHUGHAARGH... Maya: ..yeah they can be pretty vicious. Joe: ..and have you heard how monkeys killed all the dog pups somewhere because a dog killed their baby ? Maya: ... ... Joe: * more animal noises * ... * conversation moves to Elk * ... * Elk mating noises from Joe *

Wouldn't a zoo be a place that goes out to get animals to show people while a sanctuary gets animals in need and tries to help them survive in situations they can't deal with on their own. Even if they display those animals to the public to fund the sanctuary the goal of the organization is different. The intentions of the care takers aside. I am sure lots of people at zoos just want to care for the animals too.
@itslivgracew Жыл бұрын
broadly yes, but there are quite a few zoos who have a primary focus of conservation / animal welfare now (tend to be zoological society zoos) so it's just not super black and white
@alilwildwithcat167 Жыл бұрын
I always assume sanctuaries give better husbandry and education, and have a lot of animals off limits so they have the least human interaction possible. Zoos give me “ew zoo” vibes
@evknightful Жыл бұрын
That’s a false conception. Both zoos and sanctuaries can be good or bad, what is important to focus on is the welfare of the animals and who is monitoring them to ensure they are doing what they say.

There's a huge difference between zoos and legitimate sanctuaries when it comes to how they acquire their animals. Zoos have no problem buying, trading, and selling their animals, and will also engage in capturing wild animals. Breeding programs are also very common in zoos. The main interest for a zoo is the zoo itself and not the welfare of the animals being kept there. A sanctuary only takes in animals that can no longer survive in the wild and have been turned over to them for various reasons. If you're going to have a sanctuary, or whatever you decide to call it, you should definitely educate yourself on the differences between a zoo and a sanctuary. Animal-rights activists and animal-welfare organizations see all zoos as awful places, which they are, and support their abolishment. The bottom line is that animals are not here for our entertainment, so it's paramount that you take the time to really think about how you're presenting the animals you have in your care to the public (this includes KZbin, Twitch, etc). The way you speak to and interact with these animals can make viewers think it's okay to treat wild animals like pets or playthings and that they exist only to entertain us. Your words and behavior need to align absolutely. A perfect example of an animal-themed channel that does more harm than good is BraveWilderness. Above all else, it's imperative that you keep the welfare and interests of the animals at Alveus as your first, and perhaps only, priority.
@Sammathnar Жыл бұрын
You clearly have a very black and white attitude to life, but you should really work on a more nuanced view of the world if you are going to post comments on the internet, or whatever you decide to call it. You really should educate yourself about abusive sanctuaries and the great conservation work some zoos have been doing for the last decades, while also serving as educational channels for fostering animal empathy and knowledge. It really is imperative that you not speak in absolutes without perfect knowledge, or you will do more harm than good.

Please use your wrists to turn on water or install pedals, otherwise whats the point? 2:07 take off dirty phone and carrier 2:16 turn on faucet with dirty fingers and wash for 10 seconds with presumably cold water 2:27 turn off faucet with fingers that you just washed, dirtying your hands again 2:29 dry hands on towel that presumably has been through this multiple times today 2:41 hike up pants 2:44 put on uncleaned phone and carrier with dirtied hands No disrespect, but what is the point of washing your hands if everything you touch is unsanitary? I know this isn't deep tissue surgery but it seems like you're just going through the motions with little to no benefit.
