Maya Rigging 101 Q&A: "Why is my Rig Exploding?"

Maya rigging question: Why is my rig exploding?
Answer: Double Transformations. Objects that are flying away from the rig are being controlled by two opposing forces. In this particular case that means they are being controlled by a Skin Cluster (created by binding the object to a skeleton using Bind Skin) and at they same time they are being controlled by a Parent/Child relationship (they're currently parented to an object that is ALSO being controlled by that same skeleton.
Effectively what's happening here is that these controlling forces are having an exponential effect on the object. It's having multiple movements applied to it. Being transformed by multiple controlling objects. Hence: Double Transformations
