I love the idea of rating by category because it totally makes sense! What makes a romance good and enjoyable is totally different than what makes a fantasy good and enjoyable

I read The Right Move without reading Mile High and instantly rated a 5 stars. Ryan is MY book boyfriend ♥️♥️♥️ I know what you’re saying though, it feels crazy rating romances 5 stars sometimes 😅
@angiegomez81238 ай бұрын
So happy you loved Mile High 😍🥰 --- there is no reason you need to beat yourself up on reading it five stars, a five star is a five star despite the genre Each book hits differently, they're all five stars for different reasons -- and that's okay!! So so so happy you loved it though!!! I can't wait for you to read The Right Move

43:08 what i do with my ratings: i think about the book's *purpose* and my purpose reading it. for example: you read midnight library with a purpose and the book itself has a purpose of its own. I reflect if “the book had a *clear* intention? are my expectations matching them or am i being unfair? or my expectations weren’t met even if the intention of the book was to meet them?”. Then, I try to be smart lol and think of pace, plot, characters, etc (but that’s definitely not my main focus while rating). And, MOST IMPORTANTLY, i think of my reading experience. I’m not a book critic, i’m just a reader girl and in the end of the day i’m the one seeing my ratings, so my experience is my main focus. Did *I* enjoy? Am I gonna be thinking about the story for a long time? Etc. In the end, rating is a very subjective thing, and a 3 stars for me means a different thing than a 3 stars to you!! *Try to think if your rating is accurate to the book you’re rating, don’t ever compare ratings between books.* PS: 1 star -> bad 2 stars -> mostly bad but it had some good things 3 stars -> good book/experience. 4 stars -> very goood, better than average 5 stars -> just perfect. (it can have some complaints, but the good parts are so much worth it)

I struggle with ratings too! Sometimes these “goofy romances” give me all the emotions and I want to give them 5 stars, but there are books that give me no feelings but I know they are good. What do I do with that???? 😂

Rating based on category makes all the sense and I do the same. I’ve also learned to take the goodreads ratings with a grain of salt. Sometimes it’s a popularity contest and I have been let down by some overhyped books.

book ratings definitely have to be category based. theres no way you could rate a ya book in comparison to a non-fiction, self-development book. there's NO WAY. so trust, no judgement here for the 5 star rating of mile high girl🤣🤣

Honestly... I love Mile High and anyone saying to skip it to read The Right Move... Personally don't listen to them Sure I love The Right Move more than Mile High but the Right Move wouldn't have hit as hard if it wasn't for Mile High --- I said what I said and I don't care hahaha Also... Do you have KU cause the books are free there... 👀 I personally cannot read a interconnected series out of order because the camoes ONLY MAKE SENSE when reading the books in order. If not why do I care if someone pops up saying be careful you know? Versus me knowing that person and agreeing with them on the being careful

I completely understand the rating dilemma. Certain books set the standard for 5 stars and then I always compare. A middle grade 5 stars doesn't compare to a fantasy 5 star for me, so I rate based on genre. I just can't expect to rate two genres the same if I read one way more than another
