yes there are a lot of tank tread tutorials, but i watched a few more and this is the one that worked the best! thank you!

I follow the steps to the letter and the mash duplicator always screw up, they are never oriented the right way and wont duplicate around the curve, no idea whats wrong with it

Anyway, if the aim curve goes into the middle child, is it meaningful to create the aim curve?

Hi Maya Guy! I've followed this tutorial with a bit of reading and have successfully made the mash work for some treads in Maya, although I am running into an issue when trying to export the animation/meshes and get them into Unity. As soon as I use the Bake Instancer Tool and hit Bake Animation, my treads to and stick outwards, with the connectors facing towards the guide curve and not towards the next tread. The only thing the Bake Instancer mentions is that my Object rotations are not 0,0,0, even if I zero them and then freeze them. So the end result is a tank tread that has treads floating parallel around the curve after baking

Hi, have you tried converting the instance to a repro mesh and then trying to create an alembic cache instead? also if freezing isn't working try 'bake pivot'. The alembic should work though.
@Meany7476 жыл бұрын
@@MayaGuytutorials Thanks a bunch I'll see if that works for me.
@MayaGuytutorials6 жыл бұрын
@@Meany747 no worries, I know that alembic works in Unity, so just select your repro mesh in maya, export to alembic and import that into unity. That tutorial is pretty old now, so I will try and do a more relevant one soon. Work is a bit mental at the moment.

just you should rotate it like he does

Do you know how to slow down the animation speed over time? E.g I want the tracks to run at full speed, then slow down to a stop. Simply key framing the speed attribute is giving me weird results. (popping on and off, e.t.c). Even adding a time warp gives unexpected results.

maybe i am doing something wrong but it does not at all, when i assign the curve my piece is rotated in a different way, it does not fully fill the curve and it's offseted to the curve even if i froze all the transformation

If you don't want the track to break when you rotate it, group the two curves together, NOT parent as the tutorial says. Rotate on the group and it wont break.

How would I make the tracks stand still and move? I'm doing this for a game and it needs to be a "static" animation, so it moves it did in the video but doesn't progress forward.

Hi Phil ! Thanks, I also have a problem trying to rotate the tank tread as a whole, under a parent. The treads seem to rotate like at 3:15. Any idea how I could achieve this?
@kathrinbrock87687 жыл бұрын
Like, whenever I try to change the direction of the tank the treads go up on their sides
@kathrinbrock87687 жыл бұрын
I successfully added a transform node controller which can change the orientation of the track MASH, but whenever I parent the controller to the tank body or orientConstrain it, it doesn't affect the MASH. And if I set the controller directly to be the tank bodies transform it also doesn't work for some reason

Impressive! I don't know if you use Arnold Renderer, but I've been looking for an Arnold guide to render similar to Maya's Vector render (such as black lines where a polygon has hard edges, not just the plain wireframe rendering around all poly faces, and not a cell shader). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wish the wire tool would still work for this

Hi phil! just I have a problem with this method. Once I use the mash tool, the tread generates the copies of the original tread outside the nurb curve. and the tread pieces go in a different way. they do not stick to the nurb

Is the central axis of your master tread poly at its geometric center? I also froze transforms before I distributed along the curve.

I am having a problem with my tracks where they are weirdly rotated and behave erratically until I disable rotation on the curve MASH. I made a thread on the forums about it: forums.autodesk.com/t5/maya-dynamics/mash-curve-acting-weirdly-with-my-tank-tracks-in-maya-2017-help/td-p/7067255 Would you have any idea on how to fix this? Thanks for your time.

Hey man, I have viewed your video. Try putting the original track piece to the center of the origin. Snap it to the middle of the grid basically - then freeze the transforms and start the MASH network again.
@Patryk23467 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for the quick answer. I moved both pieces to the origin point of the scene then did Modify > Freeze Transformations but it's still not working. The pieces still rotate on their own in the wrong way and do not allow me to change them the moment they become a MASH network even through MASH settings. i.imgur.com/geJNDC7.png

Un-hide your original mesh and rotate it. You see mine is actually sticking up in the Y axis. try rotating your original model and watch the mash network update.
