Awesome video. I am getting ready to buy a Fractal FM9. I am on the waiting list.it’s been 3 weeks but could be a lot longer. May have to go with the AXE FX and a foot controller.

You have done a phenomenal job on explaining to the people like I’ve never seen before on the fundamentals of an axe3.Using fractal for over 12 years now as I’ve said before it’s all in what you believe not necessarily sound. Great job this piece of equipment continues to blow my mind

That’s a great explanation of the advantage of effects running parallel, I bought a Johnson JM150 way back in 98 and still use it, it has this feature on the effects chain, which I love. It’s time to upgrade and I’ve been tossing up Kemper V Axe Effects 3 your reviews are the best direct comparison I’ve seen, Thank you!

I think the Eventides can do complex algorithms like that, but it is not specifically for guitar per se, and if you think the axe fx 3 is expensive take a look at the Eventide H9000 or Eventide Eclipse

Kind of in a tight spot. Been an Axe 2 XL+ user for nearly 5 years now. have the QC on pre-order... Aside from the aesthetics, I really only liked the idea of the QC for the form factor/size so I can be more portable. Having tried my good friend's FM3, I found myself at the DSP limit pretty quick when wanting to run a couple different delays and a reverb at the "high" quality setting. Not a major setback at all. But I'm used to it on my XL+ and found it interesting. I get why, too... but where I feel as though fractal really shot themselves in the foot is trapping themselves into the budgetary solution of the FM3 while offering more incentive to getting the flagship III w/ the FC-6 or FC-12. *I can guarantee you for a fact* that if fractal put alongside a "flagship" Floor unit that had all the switches of the FC-12 and all the power of the III - the sales for the rack unit might decline... but the gains they would get from selling the floor unit would be unrivaled. I've seen this mentioned enough in various forums as to why many didn't want to go w/ fractal for these very reasons (myself included). With the QC soon being released, I hope fractal responds with something on par with that in terms of size and power. Because I can tell you for sure I would purchase a "flagship" floor unit from fractal and really not give as much consideration to the QC if they had one.

Interesting. As a guy who works in the studio a great deal more than playing out, I haven't thought of this much. When I do play out my band has a big 12Ubthat goes with us and has two fractals one for each guitar player. the other thing is the using of midi instructions to change patches with a laptop, so a pedal board becomes extraneous at that point. I definitely understand the desire to have everything there on a pedal board though if that's the kind of gigs you're doing.

@@MusicWithMarky Very true! I typically find myself writing with multiple bands or finding myself in different situations where bringing my rack isn't the most viable solution. With that said, love the content you put out and the comparison videos! Subbed.

I had both the Kemper and Axe FX II XL+. I needed to sell one (and a bunch of guitars as well. It was a sad time) I sold the Kemper. My reasoning at the time was you really needed to buy pro profiles on the Kemper to sound, it;s best. And yes, it had infinite tones in it. But that means getting a lot of profiles. You just couldn't do things like stacking amp models like you can on the Axe. Plus, the DEPTH that you can tweak an amp model, drive pedal, fx etc, on the Axe, you can create an infinate spectrum of tones. And the Axe's signal routing, is just leagues above the Kemper. It is why I now have an Axe FX III Mk 2.

This is such a great video, so thank you for posting. My Axe-Fx III arrived on Christmas eve, and it's by far the best gear purchase I've ever made. I chased my tail for a long time with "order of effects" issues, but those days are over for exactly the reasons you described. Further, I think the Axe-Fx completely eliminates the need for W/D/W cab setups, as the time-based effects are as clear as any W/D/W setup I've ever heard. In my experimentation, it's great with a stereo tube power amp or solid state power amp into a guitar cab, or just straight out into FRFR speakers. And headphones? I use a pair of Tascam TH-200x headphones, and couldn't be happier with what I'm hearing. I think this is the biggest home run in guitar gear history.

I agree. Some players get hung up on the boominess and feel of a loud amp in a room and forget this has nothing to do with a sound in a mix. You can make the AxeFX boom too if you run it to a power amp and a cab. Having all this flexibility with sound tweaking and endless effects is so next level!

I agree and for those diehards, it can do W/D/W and even separately track W/D/W with all it's outputs. Hell if you have the encoder it can even do surround sound... chew on that for a minute. Gives new meaning to your circular delays preset.

I agree. For me, the Axe Fx III is a dream come true. I can hardly believe how awesome it is! And these comments about "it does not sound as good as a real amp"? It sounds even better if you know what you are doing & take the time to work with it. I love the Axe Fx III!!!
@MusicWithMarky3 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I keep saying that my opinion of sounds is based on their own merit and I don't care how close something sounds to the real amp. I know other people definitely do though, so I like to do these videos for them. I think of your enjoyment of guitar is largely based on the sound and feeling of air being pushed out a large speaker in your room, you will never like modelers. If, instead you are all about recording and "final" product, you will appreciate modeling much more.

The FM3 can do it!!! If your a little light in the pocket. Good video I liked the FX before, side and after examples. Best piece of gear I have ever owned, the AXE-FX3!

Your videos make it very difficult to decide which one to get! They both sound so good. I currently have an HX effects and was planning on keeping it and adding a Kemper in for the amp profiles, but now I am not sure. I could sell it and get the Axe FX as an all-in-one solution. So torn!

Although that's how they sell these things, I've never used Axe FX or Kemper to actually be an amp replacement. I use the sounds in them on their own merit and as unique sonic palettes to create and record with. It doesn't matterso much to me if say a Marshall amp model sounds exactly like a Marshall amp in my room. I just want to know how that model sounds on its own and do I like it in my recording? There are some sounds in modelers that I like better than amps and that amps can't sound like; and there are some sounds from amps that I like better than modelers that a modeler will never sound like.

💯 true ! But from experience in live situation having a stereo stage speaker with real cabs on out 2 and front house mix on out 1 and a wedge monitor on out 3 with each really easy access volume level is a great thing. And honestly it feel like a real amp and sound like it to my ears.
