I have the X 40's and use them a lot. This is an interesting test. In my experience, there is no detectable horn honk or splash. It is very accurate at pretty high levels. The novelty of the Meyers is that they are very shapeable and linear. It isn't an entirely flattering box at low level with no eq. However, you can shape it into nearly what ever you want it to sound like, and it will reproduce pretty much anything you have in your head. That is the novelty of this speaker. The transients on the Meyers are exceedingly impressive for the size.

Meyer is very flat and very smooth phase response. I think it's common for those who are more accustomed to other boxes that were designed to 'sound good' as soon as the box is turned on to think Mayer is harsh. The reality is that Meyer is designed for fidelity - it's an honest palette and I usually find I only apply channel EQ so that each vox or instrument finds its sweet spot, without the box getting in the way. The only system EQ I usually use is to work out any room resonances that can cause feedback/ringing or excessive energy in some part of the audio spectrum.

FBT has more present mids and hi mids. Mayer has more space and detail. Mayer is big power HiFi box. FBT is clear presure PA box :-D

The horizanral dispersion of the meyer is 110 whereas the fbt is 70. Which means you are getting much kore room reflecrion with the meyer.

Do those speakers really sound better than the competitors or is it just better made. Trying to understand the reasoning for the major price differences?

If you use left and right gestures to indicate, it should be clearer and clearer, but sometimes it is not clear. meyersound is still obviously clean and bright

If you don't need sub - take the left - if you havw sub - take the right, l206a ventis is not good without sub you can't here the deep low very good like 12 or 15 woofer , ot sub , but when you take sub - different story - the 206 is far far better ventis 206 is wooden box you can here this very quickly.
