I have a small question. I recently got into production and i got into deathstep by one of your tutorial. So i have some deathstep tracks (not so good) a guy asked me to sidechain and add sub bass. Does deathstep need sidechaining and sub bass? (Sorry for such a silly questions;_;)
@vegetablescankill
@vegetablescankill 5 жыл бұрын
@@morbid.69 always! Don't be afraid to ask questions, that's how you learn. I'm not sure if this will help you but a subbass is almost always necessary to get a track together. Sidechain as well. The intensity of the sidechain as well as the grit of the bass can vary depending on the genre or the feel of the song, so don't be afraid to experiment and find which combinations work best for your situation. Best of luck, hope this helps!

@@NAWN This is not melodic dubstep in any way. Just cause it has a bunch of saw chords doesnt make it melodic dubstep.
@NAWN
@NAWN 5 жыл бұрын
@@AugnierCalyenin There are many different types of Melodic Dubstep and you could easily transform this project into a melodic dubstep track, because it has already a common type of a melodic dubstep drop structure. I already heared hundrets of melodic dubstep tracks (because I'm in the Melodic Scene), so I think I already know how the genre works. Just change the tempo to 140 bpm - use some heavier drums and change the rythem - add some growls in the fills and you're pretty much done. You can add some smooth drum fills if you want and also a hard hitting pluck with some reverb on it. But these elements are just optional things.

I love the tip of picking up the book on chords and learning just a few! I think it's fair to say that most people learning how to "speak" music get very intimidated by the all the possibilities, and simply just never get started. Take the pressure off yourself by learning those few keys, then find which chord shapes feel good to you and/or sound the most interesting. From there, you can look up 1-5-4 chord progressions and start with the chord you like, then simply plug in the chords that fit the progression! Keep the tutorials coming man! Love the content!
@1ajw23
@1ajw23 5 жыл бұрын
I want to also add - for all those Ableton users out there - if you find that you're really connected with a certain key, there's a Max-for-Live midi scale plug in that keeps all of your notes in the key of your choice. Definitely useful if you want to be sure you're selecting the correct notes for that scale!

Couldn't decide on a single comment to leave, so here's 6: Best vid yet. Not best vid of yours, literally best tutorial I have found on youtube. I don't know, your style of tutorial is fast paced and packed full of info and for some reason I actually learn and retain the tips that you give. There's little to no fluff. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. As I'm writing this comment, you are at 53k subscribers. This vid has been up for 5 days and has just 200 views shy of 30k views. That's over half of your subscriber base. IN 5 FLIPPING DAYS. That is MASSIVE bro! I follow another producer channel and he has 123k subscribers, but averages maybe 1k-5k per vid. Your numbers should tell you what your fanbase thinks of you.

I’m learning dub step and find that having that knowledge is helping quite a bit with the melodies. I just need to get comfortable with sound design.

Yeah, just to like sorta confirm your feeling that the bottom is most important,the thing about chords is although the root might not always be in the bass, the bass notes are essentially the body of the chord. And musically, the bass needs to be the most present because higher registers have a ring and a sort of sharpness to them that as you go higher and higher cuts through the sound very very easily and can easily be overwhelming. The bass and lower notes, however, don’t have that same ability and act as more of a foundation to the sound and therefore need to be much stronger (not always necessarily louder) in order for its presence to be felt and be in balance with the uppers and the mids. Something that might be a useful visual would be a pyramid. At the wider end of the pyramid (the bottom) would be the bass and the lower instrumentals, they need to be the strongest/loudest in order to properly balance the sound, and if the pyramid were to be lacking of them it would most certainly collapse or be unbalanced and misshapen. The mids would be next as they are the in between and sit on the higher end of the bass notes and the lower end of the high notes. Then obviously would be the high notes, which are much easier for our ears to pick out and to hear and therefore should be the quietest. Generally as far as chords go the root is the most important note in regards to tonality and making the chord sit right and sound good, but these principles of balancing sound generally still apply.
