Brought back some GREAT memories. We played this in Grade 11stage band (1980) and I was the drummer. That solo was my time to shine and boy, the concerts we played at in public, I was so proud to be with that group!! Gladstone High School Stage Band, Vancouver BC ... best group I ever had the privilege to play with! GLAD GRAD '82!!

I knew a guy years ago who said his goal was to " Be the World's Greatest Trumpeter." After he heard Maynard Ferguson play he said " I'll settle for second".

It surely is one of the best live performances. I used to listen this one regularly and stopped for a while. I did a search and couldn't find it until now. Was disappointed that I couldn't find it again. Thanks for sharing.

If Elvis was a trumpet player, he would have been Maynard!

You've got that straight, Maynard was the only rock star trumpet player. Even Bill Chase who played rock with his group couldn't compete!

There used to be a comment on here like, "that drummer sounds like Peter Erskine..." 😂

My favorite Marynard clip. The band is smokin! This seems a lot cleaner than the other version I'd seen. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for posting and for the update on Brian740. This video really captures the era and the excitement. I heard the band back then and have seen this clip numerous times. Never get tired of it.

Anyone else see the similarities between Maynard Ferguson face & clothes and mannerisms and Dan Akroyd's Dr Detroit?😆

I agree too...give credit to my man Brian Wood for this awesome clip, you find him on youtube as well under "brassy455" (then "brian740", his old channel @ the time)

Beg pardon if it's already been asked... Who is the guitarist? Pretty great solo work on the first open chorus.....
