You should explore Assam more. Assam was ruled by Tai people for 600 years. So Assam has many Tai people. The largest community in Assam are Tai Ahom people. You can also find many other Tai communities living in Assam like Tai Phake, Tai Khamyang, Tai Khamti, Tai Turung and Tai Aiton. Even Assam got its name from Tai Ahoms.

@@jirsonghanse1420 Assamese was the language of commoners whereas Tai Ahom was the language of royals and nobles. Gradually as the process of Ahomization spread and many tribal communities were brought under Ahom fold, the importance and significance of Assamese increased as the commoners who were brought under Ahom fold couldn't speak the Tai Ahom language. As such Assamese began replacing the Tai Ahom language as the court language. The conversion of Tai Ahom kings and nobles into Hinduism also played a significant role in spreading of Assamese as the dominant language in Ahom Kingdom. Now though Tai Ahoms are the single largest community in entire Assam, they cannot speak Tai Ahom language anymore. It is spoken only by few dozen Tai Ahom priests now.

Siam-Ahom-Asom-Assam, hence the state got its name from the great Tai Ahoms belonging to the Tsu (Tiger) clan of adventure loving people from Mong Mao Kingdom of present day Yunnan province of China.
