I can't get over how Ellen's focus just locks on that bass and she grooves even before having plugged in as if she's been playing this bass for a good bit of time. Adjusting to the different scale so fast is not as easy as it may seem. This video also shows her hand positions and her technique which is getting better and better so quickly.. Awesome.

I have watched at least 10 of these Ellen videos in the past few months. She said that she started playing when she was 8 and the video was done when she was 9. Young minds can pick things up fast. Also, I am sure that besides already having an exceptional sense of music (choice of notes, timing, syncopation, no fret noise etc...) she is the smartest at her school in everything. Very high intelligence and manors so good... she is just great. Her dad loves her. He is a good dad. He takes interest in what she does, wants to make sure she is on the right path. He will not ignore her and let her end up playing with other kids who are going in a bad direction. That warms my heart!!! As I watch these, something has been creeping up on me that has become irritating. (Just me, or you folks too?). He could explain something to her, and she will play it. But she understood what he told her to play the first time. He tells her again anyway. Like she is slow (but she is not) and needs to hear it again. In this video, when she is taking the Uke bass out of the case, he says 'be careful'. Then he said it again when she took it out. I know he loves her and is a great dad, but he needs to back off a few feet. Don't stand right over her. Give her the autonomy she already possesses and acts upon. A little less smothering. Don't worry that she won't understand! She will figure it out for herself.

That's a gorgeous instrument, it really is. It probably has to be set to a different register than a standard bass, but that's a common feature among orchestral instruments. Good for practicing transposition. Major props to the builder for the inspiration, dedication, and kindness of doing this. That's my kind of luthier!
