Mayor Cherelle Parker and Sixers reach agreement on proposed Center City arena in Philadelphia

Mayor Cherelle Parker is endorsing the 76ers' plans to build a new arena in Center City and has reached an agreement to keep the team in Philadelphia.
The news comes one week after hosting a town hall for the controversial project that would impact Chinatown.

Philadelphia is a historic city and has to be kept that way. A 1000-year Zoning plan must be developed, all the Sports Complexes should all be together in South Philadelphia. Public transportation must be better between center city and the sports complexes. Mayor Parker was paid off…

Parker is all for Parker. To the people of the Chinatown community---it is possible to fight Parker and win. My community did that when she was on Council. She never saw us coming. I don't live in Chinatown, but I am rooting for you. Whenever the powerful shove projects like this down our throats, the lie they tell us is that it will help us. It never does. I hope Council members don't let Parker intimidate them. Appeasing bullies only gets you more bullying. I noticed that Parker would not meet with the people opposing this arena. I saw a video of her hanging back behind other people and watching the proceedings. Bullies are always cowards. In my community, she wouldn't meet with us, either. We saw who she is, first hand. It's now up to the citizens of Philadelphia to fight her as hard as we can. Gee, what's her next amazing idea, tearing down Independence Hall?

Hmm. The design format on that emblem on the wall is usually reserved for displaying years in service. Kind of deceptive. Hey why not get rid of that old old brick bldg on Chestnut St 500 block? Sports teams rule in this city developers of real estate MUST make a profit in the 21st century! Sixers should rotate their games at existing high school gyms and charge $1000 a seat, splitting the revenue with the schools....

As a person who lives right down the street from this proposed arena , myself and the community were not in favor of it. There are so many reasons why this is a BAD idea for PHL and surrounding communities and hospitals. Especially our Chinatown. This is a poor decision and not what most Philadelphians wanted. Shameful. Sad day for us who wanted to be heard but were shut down by a Mayor who was bought and sold from the jump. SMH

People in the comments section think the new arena will be in or near Chinatown. The mayor said the 6ers will stay in Philly but didn't say where. In the weeks to come she will supposedly give that answer. If in fact it does turn out to be near Chinatown, then the mayor was paid off..
